  • The purpose of this study was to observe characteristic properties through the polarization curves and EMPA images from 4 different types of amalgam obtained by using the potentiostats (EG & G PARC) & EPMA (Jeol JSM-35), to investigate the degree of corrosion of each phase of amalgam on the oxidation peak, and to identify corrosion products from the corroded amalgam by use of X-ray diffractometer(Rigaku). After each amlgam alloy and Hg were triturated as the direction of the manufacturer by means of the mechanical amalgamator(Shofu), the triturated mass was inserted into the cylindrical metal mold which was 12mm in diameter and 10mm in height and was condensed by means of routine manner. The specimen was removed from the mold and stored at room temperature for about 7 days. The standard surface preparation was routinely carried out. Anodic polarization measurement was employed to compare the corrosion behaviours of the amalgams in 0.9% saline solution(pH6.8~7.0) and artificial saliva (pH6.8~7.0) at $37^{\circ}C$. The open circuit potential was determined after 30 minutes' immersion of specimen in electrolyte and the potential scan was begun at the potential of 100mV cathodic from the corrosion potential. The scan rate was 1mV/sec and the surface area of amalgam exposed to the solution was 0.64$cm^2$ for each specimen. All the potentials reported are with respect to a saturated calomel electrode (SCE). EPMA images on the determined oxidation peaks of each amalgam in artificial saliva were observed. X-ray diffraction patterns of each sample were recorded before and after polarization in artificial saliva (Aristaloy, Caulk Spherical, Dispersalloy and Tytin: at +770mV, +585mV, +8.10m V and +680m V respectively) by use of a recording diffractometer. Nickel filtered Cu $K_{{\alpha}_1}$ radiation was used and sample was scanned at $4^{\circ}(2{\theta})/min.$ from $25^{\circ}$ to $80^{\circ}$. The following results were obtained. 1. Oxidation peak potential in artificial saliva shifted to more anodic direction than that in saline solution. 2. The corrosion potential of high copper amalgam was more anodic than the potential of low copper amalgam. 3. The current density was lower in artificial saliva than in saline solution. 4. One of the corrosion products, AgCl was identified by X-ray diffraction analysis. 5. ${\gamma}_2$ phase was the most susceptible to corrosion and e phase was stable in low copper amalgam and ${\eta}$' phase and Ag-Cu eutectic were susceptible to corrosion in high copper amalgam.

  • High-efficiency silicon solar cells have potential applications on mobile electronics and electrical vehicles. The fabrication processes of the high efficiency cells necessitate com placated fabrication precesses and expensive materials. Ti/Pd/Ag metal contact has been used only for limited area In spite of good stability and low contact resistance because of Its expensive material cost and precesses. Screen printed contact formed by Ag paste causes a low fill factor and a high shading loss of commercial solar cells because of high contact resistance and a low aspect ratio. Low cost Ni/Cu metal contact has been formed by using a low cost electroless and electroplating. Nickel silicide formation at the interface enhances stability and reduces the contact resistance resulting In an energy conversion efficiency of $20.2\%\;on\;0.50{\Omega}cm$ FZ wafer. Tapered contact structure has been applied to large area solar cells with $6.7\times6.7cm^2$ in order to reduce power losses by the front contact The tapered front metal contact Is easily formed by the electroplating technique producing $45cm^2$ solar cells with an efficiency of $21.4\%$ on $21.4\%\;on\;2{\Omega}cm$ FZ wafer.

  • Spray cooling is a technology of increasing interest for electronic cooling and other high heat flux applications. In this study, heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) and critical heat fluxes (CHFs) were measured on a smooth square flat copper heater of $9.53{\times}9.53$ mm at $36^{\circ}C$ in a pool, with a smooth flat surface, and 26 fpi. Low-fin surfaces were used to see the change in HTCs and CHFs according to the surface characteristics, and FC-72 was used as the working fluid. FC-72 fluid had a significant influence on the heat transfer characteristics of the spray over the cooling surface. HTCs were taken from 10 $kW/m^2$ to critical heat flux, for all surfaces. Test results with Low-fin showed that the CHFs of all the enhanced surface were greatly improved. It can be said that the surface form affects the heat transfer coefficient and critical heat flux.

  • In this paper, we fabricated Cu/Mn alloy shunt resistor with low resistance and thermal stability for use of mobile electronic devices. We designed metal alloy composed of copper (Cu) and manganese (Mn) to embody in low resistance and low TCR which are conflict each other. Cu allows high electrical conductivity and Mn serves thermal stability in this Cu/Mn alloy system. We confirmed the elemental composition of the designed metal alloy system by using energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. We obtained low resistance below $10m{\Omega}$ and low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) below $100ppm/^{\circ}C$ from the designed Cu/Mn alloy resistor. And in order to minimize resistance change caused by alternative frequency on circuit, shape design of the metal alloy wire is performed by rolling process. Finally, we conclude that design of the metal alloy system was successfully done by alloying Cu and 3 wt% of Mn, and the Cu/Mn alloy resistor has low resistance and thermal stability.

  • The heat transfer characteristics of refrigerant-oil mixture for horizontal in-tube evaporator have been investigated experimentally. A smooth copper tube and a micro-fin tube with nominal 9.5 mm outer diameter and 1500 mm length were tested. For the pure refrigerant flow, the dependence of the axial heat transfer coefficient on quality was weak in the smooth tube, but in the micro-fin tube, the coefficients were 3 to 10 times greater as quality increases. Oil addition to pure refrigerant in the smooth tube altered the flow pattern dramatically at low mass fluxes, with a resultant enhancement of the wetting area by vigorous foaming. The heat transfer coefficients of the mixture for low and medium qualities were increased at low mass fluxes. In the micro-fin tube, however, the addition of oil deteriorates the local heat transfer performance for most of the quality range, except for low quality. The micro-fin tube consequently loses its advantage of high heat transfer performance for an oil fraction of 5%. Results are presented as plots of local heat transfer coefficient versus quality.

  • In the grinding of difficult-to-materials, the major problmes of conventional grinding are grinding burn, wheel wear, grinding surface crack, loading and glazing, When a conventioanl grinding wheel is used, wheel wear and grinding surface crack easily occur in low heat conductive material and annealed steel. Intermittent grinding is suitable for diffcult-to-matrical such as stainless steel, titanium alloy, aluminum alloy and copper alloy. The purpose of this paper is to develop a new type intermittent wheel of the grinding system for improving the problem of stainless steel grinding, to observe the effect of intermittent grinding on surface quality and grinding characteristics of stainless steel grinding using intermittent grinding wheel. The characteristics of intermittent grinding system improve surface quality, low grinding temperature and low loading.

  • Well oriented Bi2212 superconductor thick films were formed successfully on a copper substrate by liquid reaction between a Cu-free precursor and Cu tape method in which Cu-free BSCO powder mixture was' printed on copper plate and heat-treated. And we examined the effect of heat-treatment atmosphere for the superconducting properties and microstructure of Bi2212. The composition of Cu-free BSCO powder mixture was Bi$_2O_3$ : SrCO$_3$ : CaCO$_3$ = 1.2~2 : 1 : 1 and the heat-treatment for the superconducting formation reaction was performed in air, oxygen, nitrogen and low oxygen pressure. At heat-treatment temperature, the printing layer partially melt by reacting with CuO of the oxidizing copper plate, and the nonsuperconducting phases present in the melt are typically Bi-free phases and Cu-free phases. Among the nonsuperconducting phases, it is known that the (Sr,Ca)CuO$_3$ phase restrain the formation of the Bi2212 superconducting phase. Because a kind of the nonsuperconducting phases is controled by the oxygen partial pressure, the optimum condition in which the remnants of the second phases don't leave in the fully processed conductor was determined by XRD and the critical tempera to re (Tc) analysis.

  • The fossil fuel power consumption generates $CO_2$, which causes the problems such as global warming. Also, the increase in energy consumption has accelerated the depletion of the fossil fuels, and renewable energy is attracting attention. Among the renewable energies, the solar energy gets a lot of attention as the infinite clean energy source. But, the supply level of solar cell is insignificant due to high cost of generation of electric power in comparison with fossil fuels. Thus several researchers are recently doing the research on ultra-low-cost solar cells. Also, $Cu_2O$ is one of the applied materials as an absorption layer in ultra-low-cost solar cells. Cuprous oxide ($Cu_2O$) is highly desirable semiconductor oxide for use in solar energy conversion due to its direct band gap ($E_g={\sim}2.1eV$) and a high absorption coefficient that absorbs visible light of wavelengths up to 650 nm. In addition, $Cu_2O$ has several advantages such as non-toxicity, low cost and can be prepared with simple and cheap methods on large scale. In this work, we fabricated the $Cu_2O$ thin films by reactive sputtering method. The films were deposited with a Cu target with variable parameters such as substrate temperature, rf-power, and annealing condition. Finally, we confirmed the structural properties of thin films by XRD and SEM.
