Design standard for fairway in next generation

  • The depth, width and alignment of fairway that are main port water facilities should be designed considering the various elements including particulars of design ships, weather and sea conditions around fairway and method of ship-handling. However not only the existing Japanese design standard for fairway and also those of other countries do not take into consideration of such kind of elements and no design standard is made by quantitative analysis. In this circumstance the new design standard (Approach Channels, A Guide for Design) depending on classified various elements and quantitative analysis was proposed in 1997 by PIANC and IAPH. But it was proved that calculated values according to this standard were unfounded and had some problems to output the discontinuous value by small difference of calculation condition because the each value fur each element was simply added. And also it is hard to apply this standard to the design of port water facilities in Japan because this [A Guide for Design] is the design standard for long channels in European port. The proposal of more reasonable Japanese standard will be expected by applying the study result of naval architecture and navigation and by the cooperation of ship operators to use fairway, naval architects to built ships and civil engineers to dredge fairway. The concept of a fairway in 'Design standard fur fairway in next generation' is defined as passage for approach channel) and traffic lane designated by light buoys as navigable water for safe navigation. In 'Design standard for fairway in next generation' depth, width and alignment are picked up among many design elements of a fairway. Design method for those elements is shown based on design ships and navigational environments. This standard shows the method of design for each dimension depending on characteristic on design ship and weather and sea condition. On the other hand, in case of existing fairway, it is possible to decide the size of ship and navigation criteria by opposite analysis.

The Development Method of IFC Extension Elements using Work Breakdown Structure in River Fields (작업분류체계를 활용한 하천분야 IFC 확장 개발방안)

  • As the application of BIM (Building Information Modeling) to the civil sector has become practical, and mandatory for road projects, the standardization, development of systems, etc. for the application and operation of BIM are required. In particular, it is important to develop BIM data standards for producing, sharing and managing the lifecycle data of civil facilities because they are commonly national public facilities. The BIM data standards have been developed by utilizing or extending IFC (Industry Foundation Classes), which is an international standard, but schema extensions of river facilities has not been developed thus far. This study proposes an approach to an IFC extension for river facilities using the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) as a fundamental study for IFC-based schema extension in the river field. For this purpose, the research was carried out as follows. First, the IFC extension development method was selected to represent the river facilities by analyzing the existing IFC structure and previous research cases for the IFC extension. Second, extended elements of the river facilities were identified through an analysis of the WBS and classified according to the high-level structure of the IFC schema. Third, the classified elements were arranged based on the IFC hierarchy and the IFC schema extension for river facilities was established. Based on the suggested extension method of IFC schema, this study developed the schema by defining the element components and parts of river facilities, such as distribution flow elements and deriving their detailed types and properties.

BIPV System Design to Enhance Electric Power Generation by Building up a Demonstration Mock-up and Analyzing Statistical Data (실증 목업의 구축 및 데이터의 통계적 분석을 통한 건물일체형 태양광 발전시스템의 전력발전 향상 설계)

  • In building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems, power generation functions are integrated into building functions by installing solar modules in combination with building materials. While this integration appears to be attractive, a design method is needed to achieve maximum power generation. Previously, the influence of the design elements on power generation was analyzed by computer simulations and demonstration tools. On the other hand, problems remain due to the inaccuracy of power generation analysis and relationship analysis, and limited demonstration. To solve this problem, this paper proposed the use of an extended demonstration mock-up. The mock-up was designed and constructed by implementing the design elements of the module types, installation angles, and direction. The actual operation data for one year were analyzed to evaluate the effects of the design elements on power generation. These results can be used to determine the feasibility of future BIPV systems and the optimal selection of system design elements.

Relationship between Urban Environment and Local Temperature for Managing Urban Heat Island Effect in Neighborhood (근린단위의 도시열섬관리를 위한 국지온도와 도시환경의 관계)

  • This study aims to offer effective policies for managing local temperatures and reducing the heat island effect by identifying elements that affect local temperatures. The three elements of natural environment, land use, and land coverage were first selected, and then control factors were applied, including season, weather, and measurement units for wind speed. In order to analyze these factors' relations to summer temperatures, an integrated model was developed, and an analysis was conducted of the urban heat island reduction effect of elements impacting local temperatures. The analysis used nationwide weather system (AWS) data from July and August 2007 and 2011-2016, land coverage data provided by the Ministry of Environment, and land use area data from local governments after rearranging them based upon their falling within a 500-meter radius ($0.79km^2$) of AWS measuring points. The study results show that the natural environment, land use, and land coverage all have a relation to changes in local temperatures. Natural elements have the greatest impact, and land use has the lowest. The results could provide basic data for establishing more effective policies to mitigate the heat island effect and strategies for enhancing the sustainability of cities.

Analysis of Location and Site Planning Preference of USFK Residential Housing (주한미군 주거계획을 위한 입지 및 단지계획 선호도 분석)

  • There is a high demand for off-base dwellings around Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek in accordance with the USFK base relocation project, but their residential planning needs to reflect their requirements. On the other hand, no studies that examined their requirements directly have been found. This study examined the requirements of USFK stationed in Camp Humphreys to identify their requirements. In general, residential planning requires a determination of the demand-based location and size, identification of the facility elements required for the site plan, and analysis of detailed architectural planning elements required for the building plan. Among these, preference analysis of the off-base dwelling demand, location, and site planning elements were performed in this study, and the architectural planning elements were left as following studies. The analysis showed that the demand for off-base dwellings is high, rental houses are preferred, and the commuting time is the most important factor in the location. In addition, while enjoying urban convenience, the location of the foothills near nature is preferred, the importance of the orientation is low and living with Koreans is not a problem. In addition, the demands for exercise facilities in the complex are relatively high.

  • In this study, the thermal-structural behavior of the combustor assembly of 200 kW micro gas turbine system was performed. The typical combustor assembly consists of a Liner, Inner & Outer Case, Burner and Nozzle ring, etc. There are some gaps and friction elements between the components to compensate for the different thermal expansions of various components. Therefore, the developed finite element model includes nonlinear elements. The boundary support conditions of the combustor assembly significantly affect the stress distribution due to the high temperature gradient. This paper deals with parametric studies to quantitatively determine the effects of the variation of the support conditions on the stress distribution and deformation of various components of combustor assembly. These results may be useful for the design of the combustor assembly.

On Modeling the PBL Process and the ILS Development from a Life Cycle View with Resultant Enhanced Interrelationship (PBL 수행절차와 ILS 개발절차의 수명주기별 프로세스 모델링 및 상호 연계성의 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The demand on applying the performance-based logistics (PBL) in the operational phase of the weapon systems development is increasing these days. Therefore, the enhancement of the PBL concept and process needs to be done. This is the objective of the paper. As a method of approach, a modeling method is adopted to cover the whole life cycle of the weapon systems development from the concept development to the operation. The modeling results for the PBL process yield an useful suggestion for improvement. Also, by analyzing the interrelationship model between the PBL process and the integrated logistics support (ILS) procedure, it is possible to take advantage of the PBL concept in the ILS elements development, which is usually carried out from the beginning of the development phase, a lot earlier than the operational phase. Note that the PBL concept has been restrictively applied in only the supply support among many ILS elements up until now. However, the results obtained in the paper can make it also possible to consider the availability, reliability, logistics support, cost and so on from the early phase of the weapon systems development.

  • Sources of innovation and a sustainable competitive advantage for market leading firms in a dynamic environment are major concerns for both firm managers and academic researchers. For this reason, the dynamic capability view (DCV), evolved from the resource-based view (RBV) is gaining popularity as a cornerstone for success of firms in a dynamic market. DCV proposes a number of new concepts and elements, but these are still under development. This study suggests a comprehensive constitution of dynamic capabilities by performing a systematic literature review of 59 conceptual research papers from 238 bodies of literature. For the integrative conceptual framework, the elements of the dynamic capabilities are segmented into organizational learning and strategic choices with sensing, seizing, and reconfiguring stages. In addition, our conceptual framework lays a foundation for further empirical studies, with investigating sources of competitive advantage of market leading firms.

  • The Paper describes the methodology for Software Architecture Design. The key idea is to find the interfaces between the actors, modules, and communicating entities, and use them to identify the software design elements. The identified interfaces and modules are further used to find new modules and interfaces until the every design elements are found and located in the software architecture. This method starts the architecture design with finding the interfaces and enables the natural design procedure by relating the cause and results of the design. It also makes use of not only 5 architectural views for analysis and design of the software, but also concept of architecture patterns in design procedure. Especially, this method is also useful for the novice of the software architecture design.

The Mechanism of Coastal Landscape Formation Process in Japan (일본 해안경관 형성과정의 메커니즘 분석)

  • Coastal landscape is a collective setting of artificial or natural elements along the seaside. The approach method for the coastal landscape formation is different from that of urban landscape formation. This study analyzes the mechanism of coastal landscape formation process in Japan in the aspects of recognition phase, formation phase, and practice phase. The characteristics of coastal landscape formation process in Japan are construction of a survey system for integrating diverse landscape elements as a final coastal landscape, construction of a coherent evaluation system responding the local natural and spatial characters, and building a cooperative system responding the police of coastal landscape formation. This study suggest the implications both for the improvement of domestic local values and for the ways of the domestic coastal landscape formation.
