An analytical equation to estimate the Rankine power cycle efficiency at maximum power for the given mass flow rates of heating and cooling fluids is derived. The accuracy of the result is shown by comparing the analytical values with those calculated one using detailed thermodynamic data. The results indicate that the thermal efficiency at maximum power depends primarily on the initial temperatures of the heating and cooling fluids, and it also depends on the pinch-temperature differences between the working fluid and the heating and cooling fluids. The efficiency at maximum power provides a measure of the power available in a practical Rankine heat engine.
This study was carried out the design and analysis of solar thermal system with preheating of returning district heating water for the Chung-ju district heating and cooling system. Two different types of solar collectors are used for this system. TRNSYS simulation program was used for the analysis. As a results, the solar system efficiency is $35.8\%$ for the plate type and $45.1\%$ for the evacuated type solar collector in the case of $50^{\circ}C$ for the returning district heating water temperature. The returning district heating water temperature is on of the very important factors that is influence on the system efficiency. So the effect of the returning district heating water temperature on the system efficiency is analyzed in this study.
Feasibilities of the application of a micro gas turbine cogeneration system to a large size hospital building are studied by estimating energy demands and supplies. The energy demand for electricity is estimated by surveying and sorting the consumption records for various equipment and devices. The cooling heating, and hot water demands are further refined with TRNSYS and ESP-r to generate load profiles for the subsequent operation simulations. The operation of the suggested cogeneration system in conjunction with the load data is simulated for a time span of a year to predict energy consumption and gain profile. The simulation revealed that the thermal efficiency of the gas turbine is about 30% and it supplies 60% of the electricity required by the building. The recovered heat can meet 56% of total heating load and 67% of cooling, and the combined efficiency reaches up to 70%.

Unlike the previous approaches, we analyzed for economic efficiency of renewed heating and cooling systems as the characteristics of space. The purpose of this study is to analysis the energy consumption and economical efficiency of absorption chillers and EHP systems in renovated library. It is important that equipment selection should be considering energy cost as well as space program. In recently, many EHP systems were installed in the building for reducing the energy cost and for seeking the convenience of individual control. In contrast, though absorption chillers have the disadvantage of a central control, absorption chillers are appropriate for the conditions of the library that needs simultaneous operation. The results by payback period method, show that selection of heating and cooling systems should be consider for space program and the characteristics of space.

Gas turbine engine among Principal internal combustion engines has been mainly applied as an aero and industrial Power plant. In order to increase its thermal efficiency. it has been raised their pressure ratio of compressor and the turbine inlet temperature. To operate above the limit temperature of turbine material, turbine nozzle vanes should be cooled. For this the cooling air is bled from the compressor section of 9as turbine. Meanwhile, to keep high thermal efficiency of 9as turbine, turbine vanes are to be cooled by using small cooling air Therefore, the complex cooling passages are requested to be designed and evaluated the effectiveness of vane cooling by measuring turbine vane temperature. But it is very difficult or impossible for us to measure local turbine temperatures at actual temperature When local heat transfer coefficients are known these can be calculated, therefore this study has been investigated on obtaining these coefficients of turbine vane at room temperature using TLC.

Ground source heat pump system; GSHPs is close to most practical use for early stage investment cost and energy efficiency in new renewable energies, and currently considered utilizing to the heat and cooling system of a building. Particularly, the case to utilize 'Standing Column well heat source gathering method' in the open standards process to have the excellent capability of gathering geothermal source is increased. But the research for the optimal design technology and the assessment of a pollution level of the ground to utilize a single well for gathering geothermal is insignificant and the design is insufficient. The heating and cooling system and the equipment to utilize a large size residential development to have over 1000 households have not developed yet. Therefore, our company developed 'geothermal hybrid system' which can construct the heat and cooling system using geothermal energy for a large size residential development of over 1000 households and conducted the evaluation of economic feasibility. Moreover we developed automatic equipment for gathering geothermal source and PLC (Programmable logic controller) to have optimal efficiency and FCU (fan coil unit) considering the floors of large size apartments.

HVAC&R systems account for more than 50% of the energy consumption of buildings. The purpose of this study is to propose an optimal design method for the HVAC&R system and to examine the possibility for the energy conservation of a selected system. The energy demand for cooling and heating is determined by using TRNSYS and HEET. By an interaction between total system efficiency and cooling-to-heating load ratio, the optimal HVAC&R systems will be decided. The results showed that this proposed method is significantly capable of determining optimal system and building design for saving energy.
A vertical closed loop ground source heat pump (GSHP) is used to produce heat from the low-grade energy source such as the outside air and ground source. It is known that a heat pump system type has better efficiency comparing to the electric heating system. This study only demonstrates that the vertical closed loop GSHP system is a feasible choice for space cooling of air conditioning. The coefficient of performance (COP) is the ratio of heat output to work supplied to the system in the form of electricity. For the vertical closed loop GSHP system in a cooling mode, the COP is the most commonly used way for judging the efficiency. For the purpose of this experiment, vertical closed loop GSHP system was installed in the laboratory and the experiment was executed. As a result, an average COP of vertical-closed loop GSHP system was 3.62 when the outside average temperature was $33^{\circ}C$.
A Beta-type Stirling engine is developed and tested on the operation stability and cycle performance. The flow rate for cooling water ranges from 300 to 1500 ml/min, while the temperature of heat source changes from 300 to $500^{\circ}C$. The internal pressure, working temperatures, and operation speed are measured and the engine performance is estimated from them. In the experiment, the rise in the temperature of heat source reduces internal pressure but increases operation speed, and overall, enhances the power output. The faster coolant flow rate contributes to the high temperature limit for stable operation, the cycle efficiency due to the alleviated thermal expansion of power piston, and the heat input to the engine, respectively. The experimental Stirling engine showed the maximum power output of 12.1 W and the cycle efficiency of 3.0 % when the cooling flow is 900 ml/min and the heat source temperature is $500^{\circ}C$.

The cooling stage is the very critical and most time consuming stage of the injection molding process, thus it cleary affects both the productivity and the part quality. Even through there are several commercialized package programs available in the injection molding industry to analyze the cooling performance of the injection molding coling stage, optimization of the cooling system has npt yet been accomplished in the literature due to the difficulty in the sensitivity analysis. However, it would be greatly desirable for the mold cooling system designers to have a computer aided design system for the cooling stage. With this in mind, the present study has successfully developed an interated computer aided design system for the injection molding cooling system. The CAD system utilizes the sensitivity analysis via a Boundary Element Method, which we recently developed, and the well-known CONMIN alforuthm as an optimization technique to minimize a weighted combination (objective function) of the temperature non-uniformity over the part surface and the cooling time related to the productivity with side constranits for the design reality. In the proposed objective function , the weighting parameter between the temperature non-uniiformity abd the cooling time can be adjusted according to user's interest. In this cooling system optimization, various design variable are considered as follows : (i) (design variables related to processing conditions) inlet coolant bulk temperature and volumetric flow rate of each cooling channel, and (ii) (design variables related to mold cooling system design) radius and location of each cooling channel. For this optimum design problem, three different radius and location of each cooling channel. For this optimum design problem, three different strategies are suffested based upon the nature of design variables. Three sample problems were successfully solved to demonstrated the efficiency and the usefulness of the CAD system.
