  • In conventional zero-current-switching(ZCS) PWM converters, the switching loss, stress and noise can't be minimized because they adopt auxiliary switches operated in hard-switching. In this paper, new ZCS-PWM converters of which auxiliary switches always operate with soft-switching are proposed. Therefore, the proposed ZCS-PWM converters are most suitable for systems requiring high-power density. The characteristics of these converters are verified by results of simulation.

  • Zero-sequence Circulating Current (ZSCC) flows inevitably in parallel converters that share common DC and AC sources. The ZSCC commonly flowing in all converters increases loss and decreases the overall capacity of parallel converters. This paper proposes a simple and effective ZSCC suppression method based on the Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) with the ZSCC controller. The zero-sequence voltage for the proposed SVPWM is calculated on the basis of the grid voltage and not on the phase voltage references. The limit of the linear modulation region of the converters with the proposed method is analyzed and compared with other methods, thereby proving that the limit of the region can be extended with the proposed method. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been verified through the experimental setup comprising four parallel three-level converters. The ZSCC is confirmed to be well suppressed, and the linear modulation region is extended simultaneously with the proposed method. Moreover, the proposed control method does not require any communication between the converters to suppress the ZSCC unlike other conventional methods.

  • The input impedances of pulse width modulated (PWM) dc-to-dc converters, which dictate the outcomes of the dynamic interaction between dc-to-dc converters and their source subsystem, are analyzed in a general and unified manner. The input impedances of three basic PWM dc-to-dc converters are derived with both voltage mode control and current mode control. This paper presents the analytical expressions of the 24 input impedances of three basic PWM dc-to-dc converters with the two different control schemes in a factorized time-constant form. It also provides a comprehensive reference for future dynamic interaction analyses requiring knowledge of the converters' input impedances. The theoretical predictions of the paper are all supported by measurements on prototype dc-to-dc converters. The use of the presented results is demonstrated via a practical application example, which analyzes the small-signal dynamics of an input-filter coupled current-mode controlled buck converter. This elucidates the theoretical background for the previously-reported eccentric behavior of the converter.

  • The purposes of this study were to 1) investigate the problems in and the complaints from fashion textile converters and 2) develope the effective strategies to revitalize the converting business. This research study consists of two parts. The one part includes a study, on the domestic industry, which is mainly conducted through questionnaires, interviews and a review of related literature. The other part includes a study on the foreign industries. In case of Japan, survey was performed by visiting Japanese industry and interviewing Japanese converters. However, in case of Italy, a study was mainly conducted through a review of related literature and by interviewing Italian converters thru mail. As a survey instrument, a questionnaire was developed by the researchers after reviewing the related literature and interviewing textile converters. A questionnaire was distributed to 250 textile converters who were selected at random from the directory of textile converters which had been made by the researchers. All of the returned responses which include sixty four questionnaires were used for the analysis. The difficulties with which these converters confront are in a small scale and lack of specialty, professional training, and government support. Also, converters need an association or an organization that represent them. Cases of Japan and Italy were researched as examples of developed nation's. For instance, one of bench mark companies in development, planning and management, "Fashion Soft House" in Japan was analyzed. Regarding to Italy, the functions of the textile design studios which were mainly located around the silk complex, Como, were examined. Finally, on the basis of the results of this study, the strategies to revitalize the fashion textile converters include the tactics concerning management, production, education, improvement of the relationship between related industries, and the supportive policy by the government.

  • Input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) converters consisting of multiple modular DC/DC converters can enable low voltage rating switches to be used under high voltage input applications. This paper presents a digital control strategy, which can achieve equal sharing of input voltage for a modular ISOP system consisting of two-transistor forward DC/DC converters by forcing the input voltages of neighboring modules to be equal. The proposed scheme is analyzed using small signals analysis based on the state space average method. The performance of the proposed control strategy is verified with an experimental prototype of an ISOP converter made up of three two-switch forward converters.

  • Incremental converters provide a solution for such measurement applications, as they retain most of the advantages of conventional ${\Delta}{\Sigma}$ converters, and yet they are capable of offset-free and accurate conversion. Most of the previous research on incremental converters was for single-channel and dc signal applications, where they can perform extremely accurate data conversion with more than 20-bit resolution. In this paper, a design technique for implementing multi-channel incremental data converters to convert narrow bandwidth ac signals is discussed. It incorporates the operation principle, topology, and digital decimation filter design. The theoretical results are verified by simulation results.

  • Two-stage Power-Factor-Correction (PFC) converters are the most common circuits for drawing sinusoidal and in phase current waveforms from an ac source with a good regulated output voltage. The first stage is a boost PFC converter with average-current-mode control for achieving the near-unity power factor and the second stage is a forward converter with voltage-mode control to regulate the output voltage. Stability analysis and design methods of two-stage PFC converters have previously been discussed using linear models. Recently, new nonlinear phenomena have been detected in pre-regulator boost PFC circuits and a new nonlinear model has been proposed for pre-regulated PFC converters. Therefore, investigation of two-stage PFC converters from the nonlinear viewpoint becomes important because the second stage DC/DC converter adds more complexity to the circuit. So, this paper introduces a study of the stability of two-stage PFC converters. A novel nonlinear model of two-stage PFC converters is proposed. Then, a stability analysis is made based upon this nonlinear model. The high correspondence between the simulated and experimental results confirms our analysis.

  • In the context of increasing electric energy consumption in a data center, energy efficiency improvement is strongly emphasized. In a data center, electric energy is largely consumed by DC power supply system, which is based on a rectifier composed by multiple parallel converters. Therefore, rectifier efficiency must be improved for minimizing loss of DC power supply system. Rectifier efficiency can be modulated by load allocation to converters because converter efficiency depends on input AC power. In this paper, we propose a new control method to maximize rectifier efficiency. The method can control load allocation to converters by introducing active power converter control scheme and start-and-stop of converters. In order to illustrate optimal load allocations in a rectifier, a maximization problem of rectifier efficiency is formulated as a nonlinear optimization one. The problem is solved by Lagrangian relaxation method and the computation results provide the validity of proposed method.

  • In this paper, Parallel operation of two DC-DC converters which we have ever done before need two CTs to do load current sharing. However, we have proposed a new method called ZCT method that can share load current with only a CT as doing parallel operation two converters with same converter capacity. To confirm parallel performance by a proposed DC-DC converter parallel operation method, we have done computer simulation and experiment. It is certain that we have showed to achieve two converters current sharing performance efficiently through simulation and experiment at result.
