  • It is DC power that Output of renewable energy being recently developed and researched. Also, demand of DC power will expect to proliferate due to increase of digital load. Thus, DC distribution system providing high quality of power and reliability has emerged as a new distribution system. If the conventional distribution systems are substituted by proposed DC distribution system, the output of renewable energy can be connected with distribution systems under minimum power conversion. Therefore, in the event of connection with DC load, it can construct an efficient distribution system. In this paper, the integrated parallel operation of power conversion module for DC distribution system is proposed. Also, this paper proposed modularization of power conversion devices for DC distribution system and power control for parallel operation of large capacity system. DC distribution system consists of three power conversion modules such as AC/DC power conversion module 2 set, ESS module 1 set. DC distribution system controls suitable operation depending on the status of the DC power distribution system and load. Integrated operation of these systems is verified by simulation and experiment results.

  • Background: The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) recommendations and the Federal Guidance Report (FGR) published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have been widely applied worldwide in the fields of radiation protection and dose assessment. The dose conversion coefficients of the ICRP and FGR are widely used for assessing exposure doses. However, before the coefficients are used, the user must thoroughly understand the derivation process of the coefficients to ensure that they are used appropriately in the evaluation. Materials and Methods: The ICRP provides recommendations to regulatory and advisory agencies, mainly in the form of guidance on the fundamental principles on which appropriate radiological protection can be based. The FGR provides federal and state agencies with technical information to assist their implementation of radiation protection programs for the U.S. population. The system of radiation dose assessment and dose conversion coefficients in the ICRP and FGR is reviewed in this study. Results and Discussion: A thorough understanding of their background is essential for the proper use of dose conversion coefficients. The FGR dose assessment system was strongly influenced by the ICRP and the U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP), and is hence consistent with those recommendations. Moreover, the ICRP and FGR both used the scientific data reported by Biological Effects of Ionizing Radiation (BEIR) and United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) as their primary source of information. The difference between the ICRP and FGR lies in the fact that the ICRP utilized information regarding a population of diverse races, whereas the FGR utilized data on the American population, as its goal was to provide guidelines for radiological protection in the US. Conclusion: The contents of this study are expected to be utilized as basic research material in the areas of radiation protection and dose assessment.

  • To check effects of operating variables on reaction characteristics of WGS catalyst for SEWGS process, water gas shift reaction tests were carried out in a pressurized fluidized bed reactor using commercial WGS catalyst and sand(as a substitute for $CO_2$ absorbent) as bed materials. Simulated syngas(mixed with $N_2$) was used as a reactant gas. Operating temperature was $210^{\circ}C$ and operating pressure was 20 bar. WGS catalyst content, steam/CO ratio, gas velocity, and syngas concentration were considered as experimental variables. CO conversion increased as the catalyst content and steam/CO ratio increased. CO conversion at fluidized bed condition was higher than that of fixed bed condition. However, CO conversion were maintained almost same value within the fluidized bed condition. CO conversion decreased as the syngas concentration increased. The optimum operation condition was confirmed and long time water gas shift reaction test up to 24 hours at the optimum operating conditions was carried out.

  • This study provides an investigating the electrolyte reaction characteristics during thermal runaway of a lithium-ion battery(LIB). Dimethyl carbonate(DMC) is known as the main substance that makes up the electrolyte. The mono-molecular decomposition characteristics of DMC were derived through numerical analysis. Cobalt oxide can release oxygen under high temperature conditions. Also, DMC is converted to CH4, H2, CO, and CO2. Especially, it was found that the decomposition of the DMC begins at a temperature range of 340-350℃, which dramatically increases the internal pressure of the LIB. In the by-products gases, the molar ratio of CO and CO2 changed according to the molecular structure of DMC and temperature conditions. The correlation of the [CO]/[CO2] ratio according to the temperature during thermal runaway was derived, and the characteristics of the reaction temperature could be estimated using the molar ratio as an indicator. In addition, the oxidation and decomposition characteristics of DMC according to the residence time for each temperature were estimated. When DMC is exposed to low temperature for a long time, both oxidation and decomposition may occur. There is possibility of not only increasing the internal pressure of the LIB, but also promoting thermal runaway. In this study, internal environment of LIB was identified and the reaction characteristics between the active materials of the cathode and electrolyte were investigated.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate elementary school students' conceptions about the energy represented in the integrated theme 'Energy and life' of the 2015 revised science curriculum. The instruments were developed to grasp students' understanding about 'the concepts of energy,' 'forms of energy,' 'conversion of energy,' and 'energy use of plants and animals.' The surveys were conducted on 92 elementary school students in Seoul. The students' answers were analyzed by descriptive statistics, clouds and semantic network analysis. The results are as follows: 'Electricity' and 'electric energy' were most frequently mentioned as the associated concepts to energy and forms of energy, respectively. Also, the daily use of energy was mixed to the use in science. According to conceptual hierarchy, understanding of energy conversion was dependent on the understanding of energy forms. Although students have basic concepts about the energy use of plants and animals, they had some misconceptions and lack of understanding. The educational implications were discussed to teach 'Energy and Life' as integrated theme in new elementary school curriculum.

  • Wave Energy is a derivative of the solar energy input to the earth, which is accumulated on open water surfaces by the action of the winds Waves are disturbances in the water surface. This paper is interested primarily in progressive waves, which carry energy from one place to another Waves are irregular in size and frequency. Moreover the surface of the sea is one of the most hostile environments for engineering structures and materials. The idea of harnessing the tremendous power of the ocean's waves is not new. Hundreds of wave energy conversion techniques have been suggested over the last two centuries. Although many WECS (Wave Energy Conversion Systems) have been invented, only a few systems have been tested and evaluated. This paper describes the characteristic of WES (Wave Energy System) in terms of, devices, resource and potential, etc.. Finally, this paper provides a summary of general and specific conclusions and recommendations concerning WECS potential in Korea.
