In 2011, an earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, causing simultaneous accidents in several reactors. This accident shows us that if there are several reactors on site, the seismic risk to multiple units is important to consider, in addition to that to single units in isolation. When a seismic event occurs, a seismic-failure correlation exists between the nuclear power plant's structures, systems, and components (SSCs) due to their seismic-response and seismic-capacity correlations. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the multi-unit seismic risk by considering the SSCs' seismic-failure-correlation effect. In this study, a methodology is proposed to obtain the seismic-response-correlation coefficient between SSCs to calculate the risk to multi-unit facilities. This coefficient is calculated from a probabilistic multi-unit seismic-response analysis. The seismic-response and seismic-failure-correlation coefficients of the emergency diesel generators installed within the units are successfully derived via the proposed method. In addition, the distribution of the seismic-response-correlation coefficient was observed as a function of the distance between SSCs of various dynamic characteristics. It is demonstrated that the proposed methodology can reasonably derive the seismic-response-correlation coefficient between SSCs, which is the input data for multi-unit seismic probabilistic safety assessment.

This paper proposes a transformer design of a direct cell-to-cell active cell balancing circuit with a multi-winding transformer for battery management system (BMS) applications. The coupling coefficient of the multi-winding transformer and the output capacitance of MOSFETs significantly affect the balancing current transfer efficiency of the cell balancing operation. During the operation, the multi-winding transformer stores the energy charged in a specific source cell and subsequently transfers this energy to the target cell. However, the leakage inductance of the multi-winding transformer and the output capacitance of the MOSFET induce an abnormal energy transfer to the non-target cells, thereby degrading the transfer efficiency of the balancing current in each cell balancing operation. The impacts of the balancing current transfer efficiency deterioration are analyzed and a transformer design methodology that considers the coupling coefficient is proposed to enhance the transfer efficiency of the balancing current. The efficiency improvements resulting from the selection of an appropriate coupling coefficient are verified by conducting a simulation and experiment with a 1 W prototype cell balancing circuit.

An open-ended coaxial probe method has been considered as one of effective tools for measuring electrical properties of its contacted material without shaping and fitting. The measured reflection coefficient at the probe's end is able to convert into the corresponding complex permittivity by employing the improved version of virtual transmission-line model Presented by our lab already. But the error of complex permittivity converted by equivalent model increases as the operating frequency ascends high. The errors of complex permittivity in the open-ended coaxial probe can be yielded compositively by the imperfect contact or probe, manufacture error of probe and complex permittivity error of reference material etc. Therefore it is necessary to limit the problem to identify the error causes in high frequency. In this paper, the errors which are resulted from the measurement of reflection coefficient are removed by using the FDTD(Finite-Difference Time-Domain) method, the error causes are limited the conversion model problem. And the error study of the improved conversion model is performed from several viewpoints. At first, the local minimum of parameter to be calculated by the iteration method in the conversion model is checked. At second, the modeling of the equivalent model is checked in the frequency range. From this study, we know the valid range of the improved conversion model.

Numerical solutions were obtained to the model equations for various of the parameters characterizing the pore structure, effective internal diffusion, and the chemical reaction constant. The conversion was decreased with the cause of pore closure at the surface of reacting particles, reduction of porosity, surface area of reaction and effective diffusion coefficient in the solid with the progress of reaction. Total conversion was strongly dependent on the local conversion at surface. According to the decreasing of impregnated concentration of the copper oxide and the increase of the flue gases concentration, total conversion was increased. The conversion was affected by gas flow rate and pore size distribution in the reacting solid.

Background: The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) recommendations and the Federal Guidance Report (FGR) published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have been widely applied worldwide in the fields of radiation protection and dose assessment. The dose conversion coefficients of the ICRP and FGR are widely used for assessing exposure doses. However, before the coefficients are used, the user must thoroughly understand the derivation process of the coefficients to ensure that they are used appropriately in the evaluation. Materials and Methods: The ICRP provides recommendations to regulatory and advisory agencies, mainly in the form of guidance on the fundamental principles on which appropriate radiological protection can be based. The FGR provides federal and state agencies with technical information to assist their implementation of radiation protection programs for the U.S. population. The system of radiation dose assessment and dose conversion coefficients in the ICRP and FGR is reviewed in this study. Results and Discussion: A thorough understanding of their background is essential for the proper use of dose conversion coefficients. The FGR dose assessment system was strongly influenced by the ICRP and the U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP), and is hence consistent with those recommendations. Moreover, the ICRP and FGR both used the scientific data reported by Biological Effects of Ionizing Radiation (BEIR) and United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) as their primary source of information. The difference between the ICRP and FGR lies in the fact that the ICRP utilized information regarding a population of diverse races, whereas the FGR utilized data on the American population, as its goal was to provide guidelines for radiological protection in the US. Conclusion: The contents of this study are expected to be utilized as basic research material in the areas of radiation protection and dose assessment.

This paper presents the development of the fast Direction Finder using direct conversion method, which can intercept for short pulse signal of less' than 1 msec. in RF Down Converter, and CVDF(Correlative Vector Direction Finding) algorithm, which estimates DoA (Direction of Arrival). The configuration and characteristics of direction finder using 5-channel equi-spaced circular array antenna are presented and the direct conversion techniques for removing tuning time using I/Q demodulator are described. The CRLB of our model is derived, the principles of 2 kind of CVDF algorithm are explained and their characteristics are compared with CRLB w.r.t the number of samples and spacing ratio. The RF Down Converter prototype using direct conversion method is manufactured, the 2 kind of CVDF algorithm are applied and their performance are analyzed. Finally it is confirmed the LSE based CVDF algorithm is better than correlation-coefficient based except for ambiguity protection capabilities.
The indoor radon concentration was measured in the lecture room of the university and the radon concentration was converted to the amount related to the radon exposure using the dose conversion convention and compared with the reference levels for the radon concentration control. The effect of indoor radon inhalation was evaluated by estimating the life effective dose and the risk of exposure. To measure the radon concentration, measurements were made with a radon meter and a dedicated analysis Capture Ver. 5.5 program in a university lecture room from January to February 2018. The radon concentration measurement was carried out for 5 consecutive hours for 24 hours after keeping the airtight condition for 12 hours before the measurement. Radon exposure risk was calculated using the radon dose and dose conversion factor. Indoor radon concentration, radon exposure risk, and annual effective dose were found within the 95% confidence interval as the minimum and maximum boundary ranges. The radon concentration in the lecture room was $43.1-79.1Bq/m^3$, and the maximum boundary range within the 95% confidence interval was $77.7Bq/m^3$. The annual effective dose was estimated to be 0.20-0.36 mSv/y (mean 0.28 mSv/y). The life-time effective dose was estimated to be 0.66-1.18 mSv (mean $0.93{\pm}0.08mSv$). Life effective doses were estimated to be 0.88-0.99 mSv and radon exposure risk was estimated to be 12.4 out of 10.9 per 100,000. Radon concentration was measured, dose effective dose was evaluated using dose conversion convention, and degree of health hazard by indoor radon exposure was evaluated by predicting radon exposure risk using nominal hazard coefficient. It was concluded that indoor living environment could be applied to other specific exposure situations.
The effect of Mn additive on the thermoelectric properties of Fe-Si alloys prepared by a RF inductive furnace was investigated. The electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient were measured as a function of temperature under Ar atmosphere to evaluate their applicability to thermoelectric energy conversion. The electrical conductivity of the specimens increased with increasing temperatures showing typical semiconducting behavior. The electrical conductivity of Mn-doped specimens are higher than that of undoped specimens and increased slightly with increasing the amount of Mn additive. This must be due to the difference in carrier concentration and the amount of residual metallic phase ${\varepsilon}$-FeSi(The ${\varepsilon}$-FeSi was detected in spite of 100 h annealing treatment at $830^{\circ}C$). And metallic conduction increased slightly with increasing the amount of Mn additive. On the other hand, Mn-doped specimens showed the lower Seebeck coefficient due to metallic phase. The power factor of Mn-doped specimens are higher than that of undoped specimens and would be affected by the electrical conductivity more than Seebeck coefficient.
The effect of Co additive on the electrical properties of Fe-Si alloys prepared by a RF inductive furnace was investigated. The electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient were measured as a function of the temperature under an Ar atmosphere to evaluate their applicability to thermoelectric energy conversion. The electrical conductivity of the specimens increased as the temperature increased, showing typical semiconducting behavior. The electrical conductivity of Co-doped specimens was higher than that of undoped specimens and increased slightly as the amount of Co additive increased. This is most likely due to the difference in the carrier concentration and the amount of residual metallic phase ${\varepsilon}$-FeSi (The ${\varepsilon}$-FeSi was detected in spite of an annealing treatment of 100 h at $830^{\circ}C$). Additionally, metallic conduction increased slightly as the amount of Co additive increased. On the other hand, Co-doped specimens showed a lower Seebeck coefficient due to the metallic phase. The power factor of Co-doped specimens was higher than that of undoped specimens. This would be affected more by the electrical conductivity compared to the Seebeck coefficient.
Polycrystalline CdTe thin films have been studied for photovoltaic application because of their high absorption coefficient and optimal band energy(1.45 eV) for solar energy conversion. In this study CdTe thin films were deposited on CdS(chemical bath deposition)/ITO(indium tin oxide) substrate by rf-magnetron sputtering under various conditions. Structural optical and electrical properties are investigated with XRD UV-Visible spectrophotometer SEM and solar simulator respectively. The fabricated CdTe/CdS solar cell exhibited open circuit voltage( $V_{oc}$ ) of 610 mV short circuit current density( $J_{sc}$ ) of 17.2 mA/c $m^2$and conversion efficiency of about 5% at optimal sputtering conditions.
