This study was carried out to find optimum condition through sterilization methods for cultivation of Neutaribeosut (Oyster mushroom). 1. Yield of additive culture of pine sawdust, cotton and rice hulls at bagcultivation of Neutaribeosut. was similiar to additive culture of pine sawdust, cotton and pulpe as conventional methods. 2. Yield of Neutaribeosut at low temp. sterilization method as 50 to 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 7days treatment was higher about 18 to 19% than that of high temp. as 121$^{\circ}C$ and 90 minutes treatment. 3. In case of farmercost, low than high temperature sterilization method appeared lowly about 12%. So this method will be of advantage to farmers in both yield and farmercost.
Real time and robust algorithm to extract the features of watermelon was developed from the remotely transmitted image of the watermelon. Features of the watermelon at the cultivation site such as size and shape including position are crucial to the successful tole-robotic operation and development of the cultivation data base. Algorithm was developed based on the concept of task sharing between the computer and the operator utilizing man-computer interface. Task sharing was performed based on the functional characteristics of human and computer. Identifying watermelon from the image transmitted from the cultivation site is very difficult because of the variable light condition and the complex image contents such as soil, mulching vinyl, straws on the ground, irregular leaves and stems. Utilizing operator's teaching through the touch screen mounted on the image monitor, the complex time consuming image processing process and instability of processing results in the watermelon identification has been avoided. Color and brightness characteristics were analyzed from the image area specified by the operator's teaching. Watermelon segmentation was performed using the brightness and color distribution of the specified imae processing area. Modified general Hough transform was developed to extract the shape, major and minor axes, and the position, of the watermelon. It took less than 100 msec of the image processing time, and was a lot faster than conventional approach. The proposed method showed the robustness and practicability in identifying watermelon from the wireless transmitted color image of the cultivation site.
Background and objective: Urbanization caused a reduction in urban green space and a lack of community spaces. An attempt to solve these problems, urban gardens, have become popular and are currently being implemented in various downtown areas. However, urban gardens have some inadequate aspects from a visual or landscape perspective. The goal of this study was to examine the possibility of an aesthetic and productive garden space by introducing cultivation methods through the planting system design process. Methods: The design process using plants was classified and presented to suggest the importance of the landscape and aesthetic value. An urban garden space was designed according to the perspective of 'production scenery' and 'participation aesthetics'. According to the characteristics of the plant, urban gardens were divided into vertical type (corn, millet, sorghum), climbing type (kidney bean, cucumber, bitter gourd), and runner type (melon, watermelon, peanut). After classifying plants according to the shape of the root, the structure supporting climbing was installed and the crops were cultivated in an upright form with a tunnel. Results: In the designed cultivation, each crop cooperates, without invading each other's space. Compared with the conventional cultivation, there was little difference in production, and management was made more convenient since weed outbreaks were effectively suppressed while runner type crops cover over the land's surface. Since the positions of each crop are clearly distinguished, the aesthetic value is improved by offering a sense of rhythm with a balanced design. Conclusion: The results suggest that the cultivation methods through the plant system design process have aesthetic as well as productive value, and the design using plants, an infinite living resource, could lead to an expansion of the design field. Moreover, it would enable a sustainable symbiosis between industry and environment. There is potential for the design industry to make significant progress through collaboration with agriculture, horticulture, and landscape architecture.

The properties of non-waxy rice, Dongjin 1, cultivated with conventional farming (CF) and environmentally-harmonized farming (EHF) using hairy vetch were compared to determine rice water absorption, physicochemical and pasting properties, antioxidant activities of brown and white rice, and a sensory evaluation of cooked white rice was carried out. EHF was treated with green manure crops such as hairy vetch and chitinase, which produce microorganism culture solution. CF was applied with seed disinfection treatments, fertilizer herbicides, and agricultural chemicals for the control of pests and diseases. The absorption level of EHF rice was higher than that of CF rice grain, regardless of the cultivation methods used. The ash and crude lipid contents were higher, but protein and dietary fiber contents were lower in the CF rice than in the EHF rice. The total starch content, water binding capacity, and swelling power of white rice were higher than those of brown rice, regardless of the cultivation methods used. The DPPH's antioxidant activity was shown as follows: EHF brown rice, EHF white rice and CF rice, in a decreasing order. The initial pasting temperature of EHF rice was lower than that of CF rice, but the peak, cold, and breakdown viscosities exhibited reverse trends. The sensory evaluation showed that the cooked white rice cultivated with EHF was not significantly different from that cultivated with CF (p<0.05). The overall preference of cooked rice did not show significant differences between the two cultivation methods (p<0.05).
To improve cultivation technique for the stable and high yield, the outdoor fermentation of rice straw bundles, and pasteurization and fermentation of rice straw compost in tunnel were carried out. 1) Mycelial growth of P. ostreatus was becoming rapid and dense according to prolongation of fermentation periods outdoor rice straw bundles, but days untill fully mycelial growth after spawning was short. 2) As the fermentation period of rice straw bundles was 6 days (three times turning), yield of P. ostreatus was the highest as $50.5kg/3.3m^2 and increased 24% of yield than those of conventional method. 3) When it was fermented rice straw compost in tunnel for 4 days, mycelial growth of P. ostreatus was rapid and dense, and also days untill budding after spawning, was shorter, yield $67.6kg/3.3m^2$, resulted in increasing 17% of yield than those of conventional method. 4) On being sterilization and fermentation of the rice straw compost in tunnel, the production cost was decreased 22.3% in compared with conventional method.
This study was carried out from 2011 to 2012 in order to analyze the cultivation technology system by six organic rice cultivation types in the southern provinces for the purpose of utilizing organic rice farming guidelines. This surveys were conducted by site visit on 8 counties and 115 farms in southern area. Cultivation technology system by six organic rice cultivation types were cultivated by the principle of minimum input or non-input. cropping systems, a mixture of barley and rice, or rice green manure crops were grown. Cultivars were mixture of the local cultivars and Japanese varieties. Soil were managed by a self-manufactured compost, indigenous microorganisms and barley straw without any fertilization. Pest control was mainly practied by purchased eco-friendly organic materials or herbal medication residue and indigenous microbial self-manufactured. Weed was controled by snails and barley straw. In addition, considering the restore of a longtail pitching shrimp and grasshoppers, the fuction of environmental ecology of six organic rice cultivation type proved to be excellent all. Meanwhile, the productivity of the organic farming per 10a were the order of Life and environment > Natural circulation > Stevia > Ji jang > Art and nature > Taepyoung of Farming Methods, but the farmers received prices showed the opposite tendency. Simple profitablity did not show a big difference. But, the productivity of all type of the organic farming were lower then the conventional farming. Finally, If we want to conduct safety and easy farming, we can suggest stevia farming, Natural circulation farming and life and environmental farming out of 6 organic rice cultivation types.
To investigate the possibility of sustainable agriculture in no-tillage pepper this study was carried out in vinyl greenhouse with organic cultivation having no pesticide certification. 1. Growth and yield in pepper cultivation General growth in pepper was suppressed with decreasing hill spacing, primary branch length, and stem width. Fruit diameter and fruit weight in no-tillage increased significantly, and yield of pepper increased by 10% compared with conventional tillage. From results organic cultivation in no-tillage improved a quality of pepper compared with conventional tillage. 2. Production cost of conventional tillage and no-tillage Production cost of conventional tillage and no-tillage was not different in seed cost, inorganic fertilizer cost, pesticide cost, repair cost, light agricultural tool cost, agriculture facilities depreciation cost and so on. Intermediary goods cost in no-tillage was decreased by 11% for organic fertilizer cost, light and heat expenses and power rate, heavy agricultural tool cost, and repairing expenses compare with conventional tillage. Employment effort cost and work effort cost were decreased, and farm income and farm income rate were increased by 11% and 5%, respectively, in no-tillage. In this work, yield and gross income were increased by 10% and 25%, respectively, in no-tillage. Therefore material cost, intermediary goods cost, working expensive, farm income, and income rate were increased by 34%, 3%, 2%, 52% and 22%, respectively.
Mushroom flies are one of the most serious threats to mushroom production and cultivation in Korea, and they cause significant losses in yield and quality. In this study, we investigated the occurrence and control of mushroom flies in farms where Agaricus bisporus was cultivated in Chungnam. The cultivation period was more than 7 years in the 32 mushroom farms examined; about 28% were environment-friendly cultivation farms, and 72% were conventional cultivation farms. Mushroom flies were a major pest in about 84% of the examined farms. Most of the mushroom flies were sciarids and phorids (71% and 24%, respectively). The adult flies were found throughout the year, but their occurrence was the highest in September when the temperature increased. In general, the occurrence of mushroom flies in the examined farms was high; however, insect nets and post-crop steaming programs used as basic control methods were not implemented properly. Our findings show that integrated pest management of mushroom flies is urgently required for A. bisporus cultivation in Korea.

Present experiments were conducted to determine the possibility of cultivation of tropical and subtropical saprophytic fungus, Volvariella volvacea (Bull. ex Fr.) Sing. under Korean climatic conditions and the-possibility of applying the method of indoor cultivation which was modified from the cultivation method of the common mushroom, Agaricus bisporus (Lange) Sing.. The results obtained were as follows: 1. In conventional outdoor cultivation, the adequate cultivation period of this fungus was from around the end of June to the end of August. 2. When rice straws submerged in water for 5 days were peak-heated for 6 days in a mush room house, the yield of the fungus was higher than that obtained from the rice straws peak-heated immediately after outdoor composting. 3. The highest yield, 20.49kg per 100kg rice straws, was obtained from the water-soaked and peak-heated rice straws which were cased with a 2 cm layer of loam at 7 days after spawning.
The rice protein profiles of Oryza sativa L (Koshihikari) grown under organic and conventional cultivation regimes were compared on 2-D gels to develop diagnostic marker proteins for organic rice. The selected proteins, differentially expressed between organic and conventional rice, were compared with the differentially expressed proteins of another organic and conventional rice pairing, produced at a different location. In the first comparison among conventional, no-chemical, and organic rice grown in the same region, Korea, 13 proteins exhibiting differential expression in organic and conventionally grown plants were selected. Eight of the 13 proteins were down-regulated, and the 5 remaining proteins were up-regulated from conventional to organic rice. The second comparison pairing from Kyungju, revealed 12 differentially expressed proteins, with 8 down-regulated and 4 up-regulated proteins. Ten of the differentially expressed proteins that overlapped between the two comparison sets could not be clustered into any functional group using a functional annotation clustering tool. Further comparisons using another set of conventional and organic rice, belonging to a different variety of Oryza sativa L and produced in Sanchung, revealed 8 differentially expressed proteins, 5 of which were down-regulated and 3 of which were upregulated in the organic rice. Overall, 3 differentially expressed proteins were commonly found in all three organic rice crops. These 3 proteins, along with other overlapping differentially expressed proteins, can provide a good starting point for the development of signature proteins that can be used for the authentication of organic rice with a follow-up studies with more comparison sets.
