The effects of the sample viscosity and volume on the convective flows induced by temperature gradient in PGSE-NMR self-diffusion measurements at high temperature have been investigated. The experimental results showed that the viscosity of the liquid sample strongly affects the magnitude of the convective flows as well as the diffusion coefficient itself. It was also found that the convective flows increase as the sample volume increase.
The effects of convection on the measurement of the diffusion coefficients of liquids by the pulsed gradient spin echo (PGSE) NMR method at low temperature are discussed. To examine the generation of convective flows, we used four different types of sample tubes in the diffusion measurements with temperature variation; a normal 5 mm NMR tube, a Shigemi tube, an ELISE type tube, and a capillary tube. Below room temperature, the calculated diffusion coefficients of chloroform in 5 mm o.d. type tubes increased with decreasing temperature, while those in the capillary tube decreased linearly. The convective flow was found to be significant even at low temperature and it seemed to be mainly induced by the transverse temperature gradient. It was also found that the capillary tube was most appropriate to measure the diffusion coefficients, since its small diameter is effective in suppressing the convective flows at both high and low temperatures.
Undesirable convective flow in an NMR tube inhibits the accurate measurement of diffusion coefficients by NMR spectroscopy. To minimize the convection effects, various methods have been suggested, and it has been known that the use of sample rotation can be useful. However, it has not been clearly examined that the convection suppressing effect of the sample rotation under the different spinning speeds. In this study, the relation between convective flow and the sample rotation was investigated using PGSE NMR diffusion experiments to reveal the feasibility for controlling the convective flow in an NMR tube by sample rotation itself. The viscosity effect was also examined using solvents with four different viscosities, acetone-$d_6$ chloroform-d, pyridine-$d_5$, and $D_2O$. The sample rotation showed apparent convection suppressing effects at all temperature range for the low viscosity solvents, acetone-$d_6$ and chloroform-d, even at the faster than 5 Hz spinning rate. The similar patterns were also observed for pyridine-$d_5$ and $D_2O$, which have higher viscosity. This effect was observed even at high temperatures where convective flow arises conspicuously.
In this paper, we show the convergence of approximate solutions to the convective porous media equation using methodology developed in [8]. First, we obtain the approximate transport equation for the given convective porous media equation. Then using the averaging lemma, we obtain the convergence.
Radial and tangential water diffusion in Eucalyptus globulus wood was investigated using three mature trees from a forest in Khemis Sahel (North Morocco). Absorption and desorption kinetics experiments were conducted at ambient temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively, and a relative humidity of 60%. The diffusion coefficients in the two directions were determined under imposed hygrothermal conditions; they were greater in the radial direction for the absorption as well as desorption processes. Convective drying under load, preceded by reconditioning and followed up by balancing, revealed the drying conditions that corresponded to the appropriate drying schedules for E. globulus wood. This was verified by measuring the cracks and bowsbefore and after drying of boards.
Treated sewage could enable growth by providing key nutrients or seeding the sediments with enterococci strains that can grow in the environment. This study is to test the hypothesis that the flux of bacteria into the water column is rate-limited by the transfer of bacteria across the sediment/water interface. Two conceptual models are derived for the transfer of bacteria to the water column from the sediment/water interface: convective diffusion of isolated bacteria and resuspension of particle-associated bacteria. The model predictions are directly tested together with field measurements of bacteria and sediment in an effluent-dominated stream where high concentrations of enterococci in this stream originate primarily from growth of the bacteria in stream sediments. The results reveal that high concentrations of enterococci in this stream are transported primarily by resuspension of particle-associated bacteria accumulated at the sediment/water interface, either in the form of bacterial aggregates or in the form of inorganic particles.
The prediction of a design-flood hydrograph at a particular site on a river may be based on the derivation of discharge or stage hydrograph at an upstream section, togeater with a method to route this hydrograph along the rest of river. On the other hand, flood routing methods provide a useful tool for the analysis of flooding in all but the smaller catchment, and these methods are largely stored into hydrological method and hydraulic method. Although the Muskingum Method as a hydrological method ignores dynamic effects on the flood wave, Muskingum-Cunge Method based on hydraulic method is possible to improve the method so that it gives a good approximation to the solution of the linear convective-diffusion equation. This is made on the basis of the finite diffeience equation for the Muskingum Method. In the study, the outflows predicted by Muskingum-Cunge Method are campared with the observed outflows of the Pyung Chang River.

Convective-diffusion equations appear in various disciplines such as hydrology, chemical engineering and oceanography dealing with the transport problem of scalar quantities. Since it is nonlinear, numerical methods are generally used to obtain its solution. Very limited number of analytical solutions are available usually in cases when the convective velocity is constant or has a simple functional form (for some collection of the solutions, see Noye, 1987). There is however a continuing need to develop analytical solutions because of its practical importance. Analytical solutions of the convection-diffusion equation are valuable not only for the better understanding on the transport process but the verification of numerical schemes. (omitted)
An experimental investigation of smoke spread in a corridor is made using thermocouples and visualization technique with a laser beam sheet. A speed of smoke front under a ceiling is measured by thermocouple trees. Visualization of the ceiling jet formation and of smoke filling process is carried out to observe lowering of the smoke layer. From the results, a large-scale convective motion the corridor plays dominant roles for smoke spread from visualized photos together with temperature records. A circulating motion of fluid transports some smokes to some regions where its momentum is effective. It is therefore showed that the conventional concept of lowering smoke with two-layer zone model has some restrictions for the corridor because the lowering of smoke layer has been thought to be mass transport due to relatively small scale motion such as decrease of buoyancy, mass diffusion and momentum exchange.

In the present study, heat transfer characteristics of oil flow over offset strip fins were predicted by the numerical methods. Oil flow in the plate-fin passage was idealized by 2 dimension. Power law scheme and SIMPLE algorithm were used for convective diffusion formulation and pressure term respectively. Governing equations were discretized by control volume formulation. The flow patterns and heat transfer were predicted in details. The convective heat transfer coefficients were affected by separation bubbles which appeared at the wake region of offset strip fins.
