후두육아종의 치료 (Treatment of Larynx Granuloma)

  • Background and Objectives: Larynx granuloma is a exophytic inflammatory mass and may result from gastroesophageal reflux disease and a traumatic or prolonged endotracheal intubation. There has been a controversy in the treatment of larynx granuloma. Our aim of study is to know the results of the conservative management and surgery for larynx granuloma. Materials and Methods : We have reviewed and analyzed medical records of 71 Patients who were diagnosed and treated as larynx granuloma in Asan medical center from 1989 to 2000 retrospectively. And questionnaires on present patient's status were answered via telephone. Results : Forty four cases were treated by conservative management and 29 cases were treated by surgery. The total Percentages of improvement after treatment were 85.7 o/o after conservative management and 75.9% after surgery. In intubation granuloma percentages of improvement were 86.4% after conservative management and 73% after surgery. In contact granuloma percentages of improvement were 85% after conservative management and 78.5% after surgery. Conclusion : Resolution and treatment periods are longer in contact granuloma compared to intubation granuloma in the groups of conservative management. (P<0.05) There is no significant difference of their outcome between conservative management and surgery. (P>0.05) Although this study is retrospective, conservative management is the first treatment in the management of larynx granuloma.

크로아티아 건축가 드라고 갈리치의 집합주거의 건축특성과 유니테 다비타시옹과의 상관성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Architectural Characteristics of Drago Galić's Apartment Designs in Relation to Le Corbusier's Unité d'Habitation)

  • Drago $Gali{\acute{c}}$ (1907-1992) has been acknowledged as one of most important modern Croatia architects of the 20th century and noted for his controversial apartment buildings at 35-35a and 43-43a blocks on Vukovar Street in Zagreb, Croatia. Although the two housings were highly regarded as the best examples of the post-war housing design in Croatia, a plagiarism controversy arose due to its similar exterior looks to Le Corbusier's $Unit{\acute{e}}$ d'Habitation in Marseille in 1952. This research intends to comparatively analyze architectural features implemented on the works of apartment of Drago $Gali{\acute{c}}$ and Le Corbusier's $Unit{\acute{e}}$ d'Habitation. The analysis focuses on architectural characteristics categorized in three parts: unit plan, community space, and unit combinations. The site survey was carried out to yield more useful information for the analysis. During this process, written and photographic documentations are collected for the further interpretation. In addition, scale drawings are reconstructed for the in-depth analysis of the project.

중국 중재제도의 새로운 발전과 외국중재판정 승인 및 집행에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Changes and Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitration Awards System in China)

  • There are three categories of arbitration - domestic arbitration, foreign-related arbitration and foreign arbitration. Although the meaning of foreign arbitration and International Commercial Arbitration is different, they are used to mean the same in practice. In fact, there is significant controversy about the meaning of non-domestic arbitration because it is too difficult to distinguish between non-domestic arbitration and domestic arbitration. In the Chinese arbitration system, there are two main laws,Chinese Arbitration Law and Chinese Civil Procedure Law. Chinese Arbitration Law regulates the internal matters, while Chinese Civil Procedure Law regulates the external legal regulations. After the 2012 revised Chinese Civil Procedure Law, a number of laws and regulations have been revised, and almost every Arbitrations Rules have been revised, and will be in effect in 2015. Depending on the nationality of arbitration, the applicable laws will be different. The nationality of arbitration is so important that this paper will pay more attention to it. Although the case in China has no precedent effect, it is so important to the parties that this paper will address it. This paper will analyze the process and the cases of the recognition and enforcement of the award system in China.

Prospect on IMO's Performance Standards for Protective Coatings (PSPC) Regulation for Ship's Water Ballast Tanks

  • In 2006, as a means to minimize early corrosion failure of ships, thus to enhance marine safety, International Maritime Organization (IMO), proposed a mandatory regulation for Performance Standards for the Protective Coatings (PSPC) for ballast tanks of newly built ships to satisfy 15 years of target useful life. In this regulation, several unprecedented strict rules are adopted as minimum, mandatory requirements for protective coatings of ship's water ballast tanks, and all type of ships sailing international sea are subjected to this regulation which is to be effective as early as June of 2008. The PSPC addresses many technical issues in the areas of surface pretreatment (primary and secondary), coating materials, coating application procedure and inspection as well as necessary documentation. The PSPC rules are new and unproven concepts, which calls for rigorous incorporation of reality-based evidences currently available, since there are no practical experiences in terms of the validity of the PSPC rules. There has been much controversy surrounding these regulations and considerable effort has been made by both shipyards and ship owners alike to achieve a performance standard for ballast tank coatings, which is acceptable to all. In this paper, the background and overview of the PSPC rules are given, and several issues in the PSPC are reviewed as a base to achieve robustness of the proposed PSPC, which will serve as a means to minimize early corrosion and to ensure 15 year target useful life of ships.

사회구성주의의 재검토: 기술사와의 논쟁을 중심으로 (Social Constructivism Revisited Focusing on the Controversies with History of Technology)

  • 이 논문의 목적은 기술사의 관점에서 사회구성주의의 주요 이슈를 검토하고 평가하는 데 있다. 사회구성주의 기술학은 기술변화에 대한 대안적 설명으로서 다양한 비판에 적극적으로 대응하는 가운데 자신의 논지를 발전시켜 왔다. 특히 사회구성주의와 기술사는 $\ulcorner$기술과 문화$\lrcorner$를 통해 서술과 이론에 관한 논쟁, 신뢰성과 퍼포먼스에 관한 논쟁, 자전거 변천과정의 사례에 관한 논쟁을 전개해 왔다. 기술사 연구자의 입장에서 볼 때 사회구성주의는 새로운 전문용어를 남용하고 있고 역사적 자료의 사용이 엄밀하지 못하며 연구 대상에 따른 제약을 충분히 고려하지 않고 있다. 또한 사회구성주의를 한국에 적용하기 위해서는 역사적 자료의 미비, 기술학습의 중요성, 관련사회집단의 특수성 등의 문제에 주의를 기울여야 한다.

THE ZERO-POINT OF THE ZODIAC OF THE HINDU ASTRONOMERS IN ANCIENT INDIA

  • In modern Astronomy the vernal equinoctial (VE) point is taken as the starting point for measuring celestial longitudes. Due to the precession of equinoxes, the above point is receding back along the ecliptic. As a result, the longitudes of fixed stars are increasing every year. In ancient India, the Hindu astronomers did not favour the idea of fixed stars changing their longitudes. In order to stabilize the zodiac, they had taken as the origin a point which is fixed on the ecliptic and as such is quite different from the VE point. This initial point being a fixed one, the longitude of stars measured from this origin remain invariable for all time. There was an epoch in the past when this initial point coincided with the VE point and thus the epoch may be called the zero-year. There is controversy over the determination of the zero-year. The reasons for the choice for the fixed zodiacal system by the Hindu astronomers as well as the epoch of zero-year have been found out on the basis of information available in various astronomical treatises of ancient India written in Sanskrit.

실내 마감재료의 TVOC 방출 저감을 위한 화강섬록암 현탁액 도포효과 (The Effect on the Granodiorite Suspension Coated Indoor Finishing Materials for Reduction of TVOC Emissions)

  • The environment draws attention in the global community and a growing number of Koreans have interest in improving the quality of life, the importance of house environment has attracted the attention of the public. Against this backdrop, constructors have unveiled environmentally -friendly projects. However, they failed to establish people-oriented environment by being occupied with maximizing profitability through the improvement of brand image and caused sick house syndrome that has recently made controversy. In this regard, the study analyzed the mechanism of discharge of TVOC, one of the sick house syndrome-causing materials, that affects IAQ and its characteristics and examined the effect that granodiorite has on reduction of the discharge of TVOC in order to minimize damage. Experimental sample consisted of interior finishing materials frequently used in ceiling, wall and floor and adhesives used at a time of construction, and the TVOC of building materials was measured through the use of septum bottle unlike In the existing chamber method. Measures to counter the sick house syndrome were suggested by reducing the possible damage from the stage of selection of building material and by figuring out the effect that the granodiorite has on reduction of the discharge of TVOC.

  • 연골육종은 조직학적 소견에 따라 grade I, II, III로 나누어지며 예후와도 깊은 관련이 있다. Grade II 및 III의 연골육종의 수술 시 광범위 절제를 주로 시행하나 grade I 연골육종의 경우에는 소파술과 광범위 절제술 사이에 이견이 많다. 저자들은 상완골의 근위부에 grade I, 원위부에 grade II의 연골육종이 발생한 경우에 grade I은 소파술을, grade II는 광범위 절제술을 시행한 경험을 하였기에 보고하는 바이다.

현대 대중매체에 나타난 롤리타룩에 관한 연구 (A Study on Lolita Looks Revealed in Modern Mass Media)

  • "Lolita," a novel by a Russian-American novelist, Vladimir Nabokov, has been the center of controversy since its first publication in 1955. As it gained wide fame across culture, it has exercised a great influence, altered or developed to diverse forms. Lolita, the title of the novel as well as the heroine's name, now takes a significant part in our society through all cultures and is used as various meanings and symbols. The purpose of this study is to reanalyze and reinterpret the current use of Lolita based on the characteristics initially portrayed in Nabokov's novel. The traits of the heroine were categorized into purity, seductiveness, and dualism and the commercial use of each in the mass media and fashion in Korea was closely examined. First, purity was interpreted as the archetypal image of a 12-year-old girl, while seductiveness was construed to involve temptation and enticement, ultimately leading a man astray. The dualism of an under-aged sexualized nymphet delineated in the novel as a poor little girl as well as a depraved temptress was stated as another trait of Lolita.

Watt-Hour Metering Characteristics at Scott Transformer in AC Electric Railway Systems

  • Owing to the consistent increase in accurate analysis issue for energy consumption of the AC electric railway systems, there is controversy about the adequacy of the present watt-hour metering configuration. Due to the unusual load characteristics and facilities, the discussions have not been active. Therefore, in order to achieve more accurate watt-hour metering for AC electric railway system, this paper proposes numerical formulas for watt-hour metering that reflects the highly-varying characteristics of the railway load and the structural characteristics of the Scott transformer. The proposed formulas have been verified by comparison with site-measured data, and a more suitable metering configuration for AC railway system has been proposed.
