  • Thousands of literatures have described the diverse role of ginseng in physiological processes such as cancer, neurodegenera tive disorders, insulin resistance, and hypertension. In particular, ginseng has been extensively reported to maintain homeostasis of the immune system and to enhance resistance to illness or microbial attacks through the regulation of immune system. Immune system comprises of different types of cells fulfilling their own specialized functions, and each type of the immune cells is differentially influenced and may be simultaneously controlled by ginseng treatment. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the effects of ginseng on immune system. We discuss how ginseng regulates each type of immune cells including macrophages, natural killer cells, dendritic cells, T cells, and B cells. We also describe how ginseng exhibits beneficial effects on controlling inflammatory diseases and microbial infections.

  • It is well known that surface texturing improves the tribological properties of mechanical components for enhancing hydro-dynamic effect or serving as a micro reservoir. There are not, however, enough researches to reveal the effects of surface texturing on the tribological properties under grease lubrication which is used in lubricating many mechanical elements. In the present study, therefore, the effects of surface texturing on the tribological properties are investigated under grease lubrication based on an experimental approach. The results show that surface texturing decreases friction coefficient. It is found that the friction coefficient can be decreased by controlling the diameter and density of micro-dimple. The diameter of dimple is more effective under high load and low speed than otherwise. And, the density of dimple is effective under low load and high speed.

  • The purposes of this study are to find out the effectiveness of the tutoring program and the level of self-regulated learning ability in tutoring program attending students. This study has been performed for team-tutoring program attending students(n=183) who are in 15 department, D college in Daegu. Following results were drawn thought correlation analyses of variables obtained during the survey period. The results were as follows; There was statistically significant difference among perception controlling ability, purpose controlling ability, and action controlling ability. In over 20 ages, organization, meta-perception stratagem, arrangement, self-effectiveness, controlling learning time ability were higher than of lower 20 ages(p<0.05). In tutors, demonstration, organization, meta-perception stratagem, arrangement, checking, purpose intentions, self- effectiveness, achievement, controlling action, help requirement ability were higher than tutees(p<0.05). As results, the tutoring program was effective for both tutors and tutees in college students. Further studies in an education program for students in all years should be implemented to examine tutoring effects. Implementation of tutoring should address the frustrations and difficulties encountered by the students to facilitate better outcomes.

  • We present a new method for generating sweep surfaces using bivariate B-spline motion. The sweep surface is defined as the trace of a single point under bivariate B-spline motion. Direct manipulation of the sweep surface is achieved by controlling its motion components while producing various editing effects. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our technique by modeling and deforming various three-dimensional shapes.

  • The field of applied biofeedback as one of psychophysiological self regulation techniques began in the united states in 1950s. Biofeedback may be described as information about the effects of a response that is given to the person making that response in order to improve ways of controlling that response. This article reviewed various definitions of biofeedback, learning models, mediating processes, instrumentations to be considered during biofeedback practice, treatment procedures and clinical applications.

  • Three numerical analysis carried out for the design of a diaphragm wall were examined by the results of field observation data. Utilizing the wall stiffness, supporting system and construction sequence, the relative merits of those factors on the analysis of diaphragm wall have been investigated and their effects are compared tilth the observed behaviour of the wall. The predicted bending moment and wall displacement by elasto-plastic method agreed well with the observed values. The rigid slab supported system (i.e Top-Down Method) found to be the most effective way of controlling ground movement.

  • The problem of controlling static gaits for a quadruped walking robot is investigated. A theoretical approach to gait study is proposed in which the static stability margins for periodic gaits are expressed in terms of the kinematic gait formula. The effects fo the stride length on static stability are analyzed and the relations between static stability and initial body configurations are examined. It is shown that the moving velocity can be increased to some extent without affecting stability margins for a given initial body configuration. Computer simulations are performed to verify the analysis.

  • A boundary control method that controls interior state by actively controlling the boundary conditions in boundary value problems is proposed for the vibration control of flexible beam by using piezoelectric actuators. The governing equations are derived based on the Euler beam theory and the reduced order model is obtained by modal truncation. The spillover effects caused by the uncontrolled high frequency modes are analyzed and the method selecting a suitable sensor location is also proposed. The lag compensator in digital form is realized by using a microcomputer and its peripheral devices. The efficiency of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated experimentally and compared with the simulation results.
