Objectives : From mechanism studies using animal models to high-level evidence based research such as randomized controlled trials or systematic reviews, various acupuncture studies have been performed. Nevertheless, the current research appears insufficient to satisfy clinicians' needs. We aimed at investigating clinicians' perception on the translational research and suggesting ways of symbiosis between basic research and clinical practice. Methods : Data were collected using a web-based questionnaire made available to Korean medicine doctors who were informed through social networking service or e-mail. The survey participants indicated their awareness of acupuncture research and their thoughts on the applicability of research in practice. Results : Forty-seven clinicians completed the survey. While most respondents agreed that acupuncture research is very important, only 40% of them answered that the results of acupuncture research are useful to their own practice. In more than half of those who responded to the survey, the current acupuncture research is not viewed as reflecting clinical practice very much. Respondents agreed that acupuncture research should be based on clinical practice, and they recognized the need to collect valid clinical data from real-world practice. Also, as many as 77% of clinicians had no scruple to participate in research programs. Conclusions : There is no doubt among practitioners that acupuncture research is necessary. More importantly, practice-based research remains essential in order to feed-back research outcomes to clinical practice. Communications and academic exchanges between clinicians and researchers can mutually benefit research and practice with better information, resulting in symbiosis.

Crack-controlled blasting method which utilizes notched charge hole has been proposed in order to achieve smooth fracture plane and minimize the excavation damage zone. In this study, the blast models, which have a notched charge hole, were analyzed using dynamic fracture process analysis software to investigate the effect of the geometry of a notched charge hole and decoupling indexes of the charge hole on crack growth control in blasting. As a result, crack extension increased and damage crack decreased with the notch length. Ultimately, stress increment factors and resultant fracture patterns with different notch length and width were analyzed in order to examine the effect factors on the crack growth controlling in rock blasts using a notched charge hole.

Objectives : To identify the factors related to awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension in a Gwacheen population. Methods : This study surveyed 1,176 Gwacheon residents older than 40 years, and measured blood pressure using a standardized guideline in 1999. The study subjects were 473 adults (175 males, 295 females) with hypertension defined as a systolic blood pressure $\geq$140 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure $\geq$90 mmHg or reported treatment with antihypertensive medication. Information on awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension, and sociodemographic and health-related factors .was collected through person-to-person interviews with a structured questionnaire. Results : Overall, 252 (53.3%) of hypertensive subjects were aware of their condition, of whom as many as 193 (76.6%) were being treated, and 81 (42.0%) had their blood pressure controlled at the recommended level (<140/90 mmHg). However, of the 473 subjects found to have hypertension, only 40.8% were being treated, and 17.1% were under control. There were no significant differences in the proportions of awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension. In multiple logistic regression models, awareness of hypertension was positively associated with age and family history of hypertension in females. Control of hypertension was also positively associated with haying a partner and marital status in females.. Conclusion : These findings demonstrate that much greater efforts on improving awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension are needed, even in urban community settings, considering related factors such as a9e, family history, and marital status. However, these factors should be further investigated for their causal relationship.
The purpose of this study is, to examine current foodservice management practices at free meal service organization for elderly people and, to evaluate the attitude of recipients about the service and their ecological background. 6 meal service center as well as randomly selected 120 recipients at Sungnam area were surveyed and interviewed and result were summarized as follow. The cost of each meal (lunch) was ranged from 1,300 won to 1,500 won and number of attendant at meal service were ranged from 50 to 200 persons. Meal time for lunch begins from 10:30 am to noon because greater portion of people (elderly) didn't take breakfast frequently. Most of the center adapted self-service system. Standard recipe was not developed and meal preparation was controlled under the experiences of volunteer’s. Recording system of, nutrition management, production control, storage and inventory control was not well adapted by most of the center. In order to measure the level of storage, sanitation etc., scorin system in survey was adapted in this study and result are as follow: The score of sanitation of kitchen was lower than dinning area and that of food storage was lowest score. It was suggested that not only financial but also systematical support on management by local government may be necessary to meet the goal of supply nutritionally balanced food at the center. The score given by the recipient on the satisfaction of meal service was rate as 4.8 at the 5-point maximum scale. Meeting friends and share social relationship was major reason (41.6% of the total) of visiting to the center. It is suggested that in order to meet the changes of the patterns of change of social and family structure, the service of the center should be extended in urban area and it is necessary to develop systematic management models for the center.

This paper presents consideration on validity of instantaneous correlation power theory. The proposed power theory is defined and analyzed by time domain approach, thus it is easy to understand and instrument. The power is decomposed into active, fundamental reactive and harmonics components based on the autocorrelation and crosscorrelation signal techniques between voltage and current waveforms. On the compensation property, active power filter deal with three components only. Also, for real time control of active power filter, the power models with difficult concept are not cost effective. To verify the validity of the instantaneous correlation power theory, experimental work for voltage type DSP based active power filter is achieved. The power of thyristor controlled motor drives is decomposed into three orthogonal components by proposed power theory. From compensation results, validity of proposed theory is confirmed. feedback controller needs the information on some motor parameters. New recursive adaptation algorithms for rotor resistance and mutual inductance which can be applied to our nonlinear feedback controller are also presented in this paper. The recursive adaptation algorithms make the estimated values of rotor resistance and mutual inductance track their real values. Some simulation and experimental results show that the adaptation algorithms are robust against the variation of stator resistance and stator inductance.

In the consideration of the problem occurred by certain return bender brazing welding works that depend only on handworks, the automatization of the whole production line is impossible due to the high dependency of skillful workers. In addition, it is difficult to establish a standardization due to the various heat exchanger model and irregular amount of orders, and the fault reduction is also impossible due to the severe difference in brazing conditions. It is necessary to develop a method, which quantitively analyzes the problem existed in this manual brazing welding of return benders and technically solves that problem, and to lead the improvement of the productivity and cost reduction in order to increase the business competitive power. Then, this will contribute the technical development of automatic welding for Korea's heat exchanger businesses. Thus, this study develops an automatic technology, which automatically controls the flame strength using digital control methods, for various models and produces a sample model. It is possible to increase the productivity and produce uniformed and qualified products by solving the problem existed in manual processes using the developed automatic return bender brazing system. In addition, the brazing condition can be automatically controlled according to the model and line speed, and such an economical operation can reduce the production cost. The developed system is expected to future applications not only heat exchangers in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning, but also other various industrial fields that apply heat exchangers, such as car and boiler industries.

Ginsenoside Rg3 (G-Rg3) is one of protopanaxadiol ginsenosides characteristic of red ginseng, steamed and dried ginseng (Panax ginseng), which has recently attracted much attention for its antitumor properties in vitro and in vivo animal models. Experimental studies have demonstrated that it could promote cancer cell apoptosis, inhibit cancer cell growth, the apoptosis of cancer cells, adhesion, invasion and metastasis, and also prevent an angiogenetic formation in prostate, breast, ovarian, colorectal, gastric, liver and lung cancer etc. It has shown the antitumor activities by modulation of diverse signaling pathways, including regulation of cell proliferation mediators (CDKs and cyclins), growth factors (vascular endothelial growth factor), tumor suppressors (p53 and p21), cell death mediators (caspases, Bcl-2, Bax), inflammatory response molecules ($NF-{\kappa}B$ and COX-2), protein kinases (JNK, Akt, and AMP-activated protein kinase) and Wnt/${\beta}$-catenin signaling. In addition, the combination of Rg3 and chemotherapeutic agents have synergistically enhanced therapeutic efficacy and reduced antagonistically side effects. Furthermore, it can reverse the multidrug resistance of cancer cells, prolong the survival duration and improve life quality of cancer patients. Taken together, accumulating evidences could provide the potential of G-Rg3 in the treatment of cancers and the feasibility of further randomized placebo controlled clinical trials.
Purpose: Aerial application of chemicals with an agricultural helicopter allows for precise and timely spraying and reduces working labor and pollution. An attitude controller for an agricultural helicopter would be helpful to aerial application operator. The objectives of this paper are to determine the transfer function models and to estimate the handling qualities of a bare-airframe model helicopter. Methods: Transfer functions of a model unmanned helicopter were estimated by using NAVFIT and DERIVID modules of the $CIFER^{(R)}$ program to the time history data of frequency sweep flight tests. Control inputs of the transfer functions were elevator, aileron, rudder and collective pitch stick positions and the outputs were resulting on-axis movements of the fuselage. Results: Minimum realization of the transfer functions for pitch rate output to elevator control input and roll rate output to aileron control input produced second order transfer functions with undamped natural frequencies around 3.0 Hz and damping ratios of 0.139 and 0.530, respectively. The equivalent time delays of the transfer functions ranged from 0.16 to 0.44 second. Sensitivity analysis of the proposed parameters allowed derivation of minimal realization of the transfer functions. Conclusions: Handling quality of the model helicopter was addressed based on the eigenvalues of the transfer functions, corresponding undamped natural frequencies with damping ratios. The equivalent time delays of the lateral-directional motion ranged from 0.16 to 0.44 second, longer than the 0.1 to 0.15 second requirement for well-controlled typical manned aerial vehicles.
Animal models are important tools in thrombosis research and preclinical drug development. In recent studies, ferric chloride ($FeCl_3$) has been widely used to induce arterial thrombosis in a variety of species. The purpose of this study was to find an optimal concentration of $FeCl_3$ and validate this model suited better for thrombosis research. A small piece of filter paper, soaked in $FeCl_3$ solution (10, 20 or 35%, v/v, in distilled water) was topically applied on the carotid artery of SD rats to measure the time to occlusion (TTO) and thrombus weight (TW) to ascertain 35%, as an optimal $FeCl_3$ concentration ($8.63{\pm}0.92min$; p =0.000, $0.79{\pm}0.03mg/mm$; p =0.000, respectively). To validate this experimental model, Ginkgo biloba special extract EGb761 (5, 10 or 30 mg/kg) as a reference agent administered by peritoneal route for 1h prior to the induction of thrombosis, showed significantly delayed TTO in a dose dependent manner ($18.50{\pm}2.17$, $29.17{\pm}1.83$, and $38.00{\pm}1.79min$, respectively) and significantly reduced TW and repaired collagen fibre in the injured vessel compare to vehicle group. Our results provide a simple, reproducible and well controlled in vivo screening system to induce thrombosis in rats by the topical application of 35% $FeCl_3$ to assess the efficacy of the new anti-thrombotic agents.

This paper proposes an advanced suspension system and reports its performance in the framework of the preview control algorithm based on the RPS (road profile sensing) system and MSD system with the multi-stage damping characteristics. Typical disturbance inputs that cause excessive vibration and steering instability of an automobile are irregular obstacles that protrude or sink into the road surface to be driven. The control performance can be improved if information on the existence and shape function of its obstacle is known. Based on the results of the previous study, advanced research that uses the actuating system has been processed to be commercialized practically. For this purpose, a switching algorithm between the control logic and the multi-stage damping system was developed and its connectivity is presented. To verify the applicability of an actual vehicle, the proposed control system was implemented in full vehicle models and simulations were performed. The proposed system using the 3-DS actuator system, which is applied for structural simplicity, can improve the ride comfort and steering stability. In addition, the results indicate the feasibility of the intelligently controlled suspension system.
