Analysis of CINR for adaptive video streaming over IEEE 802.16 WiMAX (적응적 비디오 스트리밍을 위한 WiMAX 환경에서의 신호품질 분석)

  • 본 논문에서는 WiMAX 의 신호세기(CINR: Carrier to Interference + Noise Ratio)의 변화와 예측 방법에 대해 연구한다. WiMAX 와 같은 무선 네트워크에서는 신호세기가 불규칙하게 변화하기 때문에 비디오 스트리밍시 에러나 지연이 발생할 수 있다. CINR 은 클라이언트 측의 가용 대역폭을 결정하는 중요한 요소이다. 하지만 기존의 RTCP(Real-time Transport Control Protocol)를 이용한 비트율 제어는 RTT(Round Trip time), PLR(Packet Loss Rate) 등의 정보를 사용하기 때문에 부정확하거나 지연이 발생될 수 있다. 이를 보완하기 위한 CINR 을 직접 비트율 제어에 사용하는 방법에 대해 연구하기에 앞서, 본 논문에서는 CINR 을 분석하고 미래의 값을 예측하는 방법에 대해 연구한다. 본 논문의 분석을 통해 CINR 의 예측을 비교적 정확하게 수행할 수 있다면 앞으로의 가용 대역폭을 비교적 정확하게 예측할 수 있고 효율적인 비디오 스트리밍 시스템을 제안할 수 있다.

  • 본 논문은 유선통신망의 ATM기술을 무선통신망에 적용한 무선 멀티미디어 액세스 환경에서 패킷에러율 및 처리율등 전송성능을 개선하기 위한 통합에러제어 구조를 제안하였다. 음성, 데이터, 영상 등의 등시성 멀티미디어 트래픽을 처리해야 하는 무선 멀티미디어 네트워크에서는 트래픽별로 QoS(Quality of Service) 목표치가 다르므로 트래픽 속성에 상관없이 일괄적으로 성능개선기법들을 적용하는 것은 또 다른 성능저하 현상을 초래한다. 대표적인 멀티미디어 네트워크인 ATM 네트워크인 경우 트래픽 속성상 CBR(Constant Bit Rate) 및 랜덤트래픽은 지연에 매우 민감하며 VBR(Variable Bit Rate) 트래픽은 어느 정도의 지연은 허용되나 데이터 전송시 매우 높은 신뢰도를 필요로 한다. 이러한 배경에서 ATM을 기반으로 하는 무선 멀티미디어 네트워크 액세스 환경에서 트래픽별 QoS 속성을 만족시킬 수 있는 통합 에러제어 구조를 제시한 후 FEC, ARQ, 인터리빙, 버퍼용량등의 적용방안을 제시하였다.

ServerNet and ATM Interconnects: Comparison for Compressed Video Transmission

  • We have developed fully functional Video Server and Client applications which can transmit, receive, decompress and display compressed video over various networks. Our video trans-port allows dynamic rate control feedback, loss detection, and repair requests from Clients to the Server. Our experiments show how feedvack-before-degradation scheme for rate adaptation maintains good display frame-rate for video playback. We show how the playback degradation(reduction in display frame-rate) oc-curs and what happens if corrective measures are not taken to im-prove the situation. The degradation is attributed to the increased internal kernel buffering which consumes scarce CPU resources. We demontrate with our experimental results that ServerNet, with improved hardware delivery guarantees, can significantly reduce host CPU resource consumption while serving video streams. We present the maximum number of streams which can be served for each of ATM and ServerNet interconnects. The appropriate user-level packet size for the video server are also determined for each case.

  • In this paper, we analyze the delay performance for a Markovian source transported over a wireless channel with time-varying error characteristics. To improve the reliability of the channel, the end points of the wireless link implement a selective-repeat (SR) ARQ error control protocol. We provide an approximate discrete-time analysis of the end-to-end mean packet delay, which consists of transport and resequencing delays. Numerical results and simulations indicate that our approximate analysis is sufficiently accurate for a wide range of parameter values.

  • In this paper, an adaptive cross-layer resource allocation algorithm for the downlink multi-user OFDM system is proposed. The proposed algorithm does not only concern the wireless characteristics of physical (PHY) layer, but also pays attention to the user's quality of service (QoS) requirement, fairness, and packet queue state information of medium access control (MAC) layer. The algorithm is composed of two parts: one is to decide the priority of the user, and the other is to assign the radio resource according to its priority. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has both steady QoS and low computation complexity, even though the mobile users have different receiving signal to noise ratio (SNR).

  • While Ethernet and TCP/IP are the most widely used protocol, for Real-time system, it is not applicable because it doesn't guarantee the deterministic transmission time. Furthermore, the TCP acknowledgement scheme and sliding window algorithm enforce to collide packets. Although various Collision-Free CSMA protocol was presented, it is very difficult to implement in well known OS(UNIX, WilidowsNT) because we have to modify network kernel. This paper presents another transmission protocol based on modified UDP. The colliding probability can be minimized by avoiding successive packet transmission and decreasing competition duration. The proposed algorithm can be used for the soft real-time industrial automation network.

  • IEEE 802.15.4 specification which defines low-rate wireless personal area network(LR-WPAN) has application to home or building automation, remote control and sensing, intelligent management, environmental monitoring, and so on. Recently, it has been considered as an alternative technology to provide multimedia services such as automation via voice recognition, wireless headset and wireless camera for surveillance. In order to evaluate capability of voice traffic on the IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN, we supposed two scenarios, voice traffic only and coexistence of voice and sensing traffic. For both cases we examined delay and packet loss rate in case of with and without acknowledgement, and various beacon period varying with beacon and superframe order values. In LR-WPAN with voice devices only, total 5 voice devices could be applicable and in the other case, i.e., coexisted cases of voice and sensor devices, a voice device was able to coexist with about 60 sensor devices.

  • Saturation routing algorithm is known to be an effective routing mechanism for tactical application and packet radio networks, since it minimizes the call set-up time and does not have to maintain routing tables. But, it is known that it has significant drawbacks with respect to the network efficiency, the overhead on the control messages [1]. We consider a tactical circuit-switched grid network with a maximum of tour links and two priority classes of voice traffic. Using the minimum first-derivative length (MFDL) path, we improve the blocking probability performance of a circuit-switched network without increasing the call set-up time and processor loading of the algorithm.

  • The nodes of Ad-hoc network are made up of location registration for sending informations and a great number of packet transmissions to maintain routing route among the nodes. Under this environment, a huge number of traffics would be generated as mobility variable occurs more than in physical network. Hence, in this paper, focused on to study the relationship of nodes to analyze the extent of the traffic in order to control the traffics of the multi-hop in Ad-hoc.

  • Bo-Back-N ARQ is widely used in packet networks for error and flow control methanisms. This paper analyzes the network throughput under the go-back-N schem. Contrast to other analytic methods which assume independent frame losses or the first order Markov frame analytic methods which assume independent frame losses or the first order Markov frame losses concoptually, the proposed method takes into account the correlation between successive frame losses in a congested node. Computer simulation shows that our method generates more accurate performance results that independent assumption method. We apply the proposed method to analyze the performance of BWM in high speed networs. Our results show that BWM maintains the independence between traffic streams.
