  • In this paper, we propose a new design approach of a two-degrees-of-freedom compensator which assures the robust stability. First of all, we clarify the internal structure of the generalized two-degrees-of-freedom compensator. By adopting this structure, we can make a bridge between the generalized controller and the disturbance observer based controller, Secondly, based on the clarified structure we derive a robust stability condition, and propose a design algorithm of free parameter taking the condition into account. The proposed design algorithm is easy to implement and, as a result, we obtain lower order free parameter then that of the conventional design algorithm.. Thirdly, we show by adopting an appropriate coprime factorization that the clarified structure can also be regarded as an extended version of the conventional PID compensator. Finally, we apply the proposed algorithm to a three-degrees-of freedom direct drive robot, and show some experimental results to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • Partial least squares(PLS) is one of multiplicate statistical process methods and has been developed in various algorithms with the characteristics of principal component analysis, dimensionality reduction, and analysis of the relationship between input variables and output variables. But it has been limited somewhat by their dependency on linear mathematics. The algorithm is proposed to classify for the non-linear data using PLS and the residual compensator(RC) based on radial basis function network (RBFN). It compensates for the error of the non-linear data using the RC based on RBFN. The experimental result is given to verify its efficiency compared with those of previous works.

  • In this paper, a disturbance feedforward compensator design technique is proposed for an active magnetic bearing system subject to base motion for attenuating disturbance responses. In the consideration of the requirements on the model accuracy in the model based compensator designs, an experimental feedforward compensator design based on adaptive estimation by means of the Multiple Filtered-x least mean square(MFXLMS) algorithm is proposed. The performance and the effectiveness of the proposed technique will be presented in the succeeding paper in which the proposed technique is applied to a 2-DOF active magnetic bearing system subject to base motion.

  • A novel voltage sag compensator with hi-directional DC/DC converter of Electric double layer capacitor is proposed. Recently, the double-layer capacitor which is drawn attention as a new energy storage element has a lot of advantage such as no maintenance, long lifetime and quick charge/discharge characteristics with large current. This DC/DC converter is used to control the charging current to the double-layer capacitor and also used to keep the DC link voltage constant for discharge of the double-layer capacitor. Therefore, the proposed DC/DC converter has the high-efficiency controller, dynamic compensator of voltage sag is driven by this converter. Finally, experimental results show the validity of the control scheme and the ability of the dynamic voltage compensator.

  • The robust compensation controller, which has been proposed by one of the authors and is based on the fundamental principle of making the plant follow the reference model, consists of the reference model and the robust compensator. The reference model is constructed by using the nominal model of the plant and determines the input-output properties of the resultant system. The robust compensator is obtained as a solution of the mixed sensitivity problem in H infinity control theory. Therefore the resultant system is of low sensitivity and robust stability. In the case where uncertainty does not occur in the plant, the plant follows perfectly the reference model. Therefore, in the case where uncertainty occurs in the plant, we propose the system configuration which improves the following accuracy without replacing the 개bust compensator but by identifying, the plant and reconstructing the reference model.

  • The high precision positioning mechanism is used in various industrial fields. It is used in semiconductor manufacturing line, test instrument, Bioengineering, and MEMS and so on. This paper presents a positioning mechanism with dual servo system. Dual servo system consists of a coarse stage and a fine motion stage. The course stage is driven by VCM and the actuator of fine stage is the PZT. The purposes of dual servo system are stability, higher bandwidth, and robustness. Lead compensator is applied to this control system, and is designed by PQ method. Designed compensator can improve property of positioning mechanism.

  • Numerous applications of position controlling devices using servoing technique and transmission of energy through belt drives are practiced in the industry. Belt drive is a simple, lightweight, low cost power transmission system. Belt drives provide freedom to position the motor relative to the load and this phenomenon enables reduction of the robot arm inertia. It also facilitates quick response when employed in robotics. In this paper, precision positioning of a belt driven mechanism using a feed-forward compensator under maximum acceleration and velocity constraints is proposed. The proposed method plans the desired trajectory and modifies it to compensate delay dynamics and vibration. Being an offline method, the proposed method could be easily and effectively adopted to the existing systems without any modification of the hardware setup. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through computer simulation and experimental results.

  • In order to improve the tracking performance of $2{\times}2$ multivariable control systems, a fuzzy control algorithm with feedforward compensator is represented. The method consists in two steps. First, neglecting interconnections. one designs a fuzzy controller to each individual loop. In the second stage, low-order transfer functions of outputs to reference inputs are estimated. We propose a design method of the feed forward compensator based on the transfer functions. An illustrative example are shown.

  • The proposed inertial measurement unit (IMU) is composed of accelerometers only. It can determine a vehicle's position and attitude, which is the Gyro-free INS. The Gyro-free INS error is deeply affected by the sensor bias, scale factor and misalignment. However, these parameters can be obtained in the laboratory. After these misalignments are corrected, the Gyro-free strap-down INS could be more accurate. This paper presents a compensator design for the strap-down six-accelerometer INS to correct misalignment. A calibration experiment is taken to get the error parameters. A simulation results show that it will decrease the INS error to enhance the performance after compensation.

  • In this paper, a ramp tracking controller design method is proposed for the systems with nonlinear frictions. The objective is to design a controller which is capable of tracking a ramp reference input without steady state error. The controller is composed of a linear controller, integrators for error compensation, and a friction compensator. The compensator estimates the parameters of friction model. The friction parameters are estimated using two different method. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method is effective.
