Synchronized switch damping (SSD) techniques have recently been developed for structural vibration control using piezoelectric materials. In these techniques, piezoelectric materials are bonded on the vibrating structure and shunted by a network of electrical elements. These piezoelectric materials are switched according to the amplitude of the excitation force to damp vibration. This paper presents a new SSD technique called 'synchronized switch damping on negative capacitance and adaptive voltage sources' (SSDNCAV). The technique combines the phenomenon of capacitance transient charging and electrical resonance to effectively dampen the structural vibration. Also, the problem of stability observed in the previous SSD techniques is effectively addressed by adapting the voltage on the piezoelectric patch according to the vibration amplitude of the structure. Analytical expressions of vibration attenuation at the resonance frequency are derived, and the effectiveness of this new technique is demonstrated, for the control of a resonant cantilever beam with bonded piezoelectric patches, by comparing with SSDI, SSDVenh, and SSDNC techniques. Theoretical predictions and experimental results show the remarkable vibration damping capability of SSDNCAV technique, which was better than the previous SSD techniques. The broadband vibration control capabilities of SSDNCAV technique are also demonstrated, which exceed those of previous SSD techniques.
This paper presents a current mode integrated control technique (CM-ICT) using a modified voltage space vector modulation (MSVM) for Z-source inverter (ZSI) fed induction motor drives. MSVM provides a better DC voltage boost in the dc-link, a wide range of AC output voltage controllability and a better line harmonic profile. In a voltage mode ICT (VM-ICT), the outer voltage feedback loop alone is designed and it enforces the desired line voltage to the motor drive. An integrated control technique (ICT), with an inner current feedback loop is proposed in this paper for the purpose of line current limiting and soft operation of the drive. The current command generated by the PI controller and limiter in the outer voltage feedback loop, is compared with the actual line current, and the error is processed through the PI controller and a limiter. This limiter ensures that, the voltage control signal to the Z-source inverter is constrained to a safe level. The rise and fall of the control signal voltage are made to be gradual, so as to protect the induction motor drive and the Z-source inverter from transients. The single stage controller arrangement of the proposed CM-ICT offers easier compensation. Analysis, Matlab/Simulink simulations, and experimental results have been presented to validate the proposed technique.

Active vibration control methods are required in the high speed rotor systems supported by magnetic bearings. A prediction control technique is one of the control methods. Gain and phase angle are primarily chosen with analyzing the responses for a certain rotor speed. The feasibility of this technique has been reported for only analytical simulations. Therefore this paper constructs the test rig supported by ball bearings with a magnetic bearing type actuator and develops a prediction control system by using LabVIEW and Compact RIO. Finally as rotating speeds are modulated, the gains and phase angles for the speeds are determined with vibration control of the test rig. This leads that the prediction control technique may be applied to the rotor system with the magnetic bearing.
Background: This study was conducted to apply active release techniques to male youth basketball players to help improve physical development and damage prevention and improve performance through improved balance and functional movement. Design: Randomized control trial. Methods: The subjects included 33 youth basketball players who were randomly assigned to the experimental group (n=17) and the control group (n=16). For the experimental group, the active release technique was applied to the hip muscles, calf muscles, posterior thigh muscles based on the distribution of injuries surveyed in youth basketball players in the Korean Basksetball League. The Y-balance test and the functional reach test (FRT) were used to assess balance and the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) was used to assess functional movement. Interventions were conducted twice a week for 4 weeks at 40 minutes per session. The experimental group was the active release technique group, and static stretching, a common exercise therapy technique, and self-myofascial release using a foam roller were applied for 20 minutes. The control group received general exercise therapy and placebo active release technique. The placebo active release technique applies pressure only. results:The experimental group showed a greater improvement in balance, as evidenced by the FRT, compared to the control group, which received general exercise treatment. However, there was no statistically significant difference in improvement between the 2 groups. In the case of the experimental group, the difference in the Y balance test before and after the intervention was larger than that of the control group, but there was no statistically significant difference. Significant improvement was found in functional movement, as evidence by the FMS, for the trunk stability test (p < 0.05), in-line lunge test (p < 0.05), rotational stability test (p < 0.05), total score (p < 0.05). Conclusion: In this study, the active release technique improved the balance and functional movement of young basketball players more than general exercise therapy. The application of the active release technique is therefore expected to assist in physical development, prevent damage, and improve the performance of youth basketball players.
A predictive current control technique for an induction motor employing a resonant DC link inverter is proposed to overcome the disadvantage of the current regulated delta modulation(CRDM) which was employed to control the resonant DC link inverter. The discrete model of an induction motor and estimation of back EMF are investigated and a novel predictive current control technique is newly developed based on this discrete model and estimated back EMF. Using the proposed control technique, the minimized current ripple with reduced offset can be obtained. The usefulness of the proposed technique is verified through the computer simulation.
We proposed a design technique for auto-landing guidance and control system. This technique utilizes linear controller and neural network. Main features of this technique is to use conventional linear controller and compensate for the error coming from the model uncertainties and/or reference model mismatch. In this study, the multi-perceptron neural network with single hidden layer is adopted to compensate for the errors. Glide-slope capture logic for auto-landing guidance and control system is designed in this technique. From the simulation results, it is observed that the responses of velocity and pitch angle to commands are fairly good, which are directly related to control inputs of throttle and elevator, respectively.

The technique of backstepping have can avoid cancellations of useful nonlinearities. It is widely used in nonlinear adaptive control. But it is difficult to use this technique for uncertain nonlinear systems. Sliding mode control has robustness and application with feedback linearization. This paper shows that the robustness can be used for back stopping technique to solve the uncertainty problem and to improve the scalar design problem using Control Lyapunov function which is the motivation of back stepping technique with recursive design for high-order systems. In the respect of SMC, the result of this paper does not need to satisfy the matching condition.

A novel order-reduction technique for model predictive control(MPC) is proposed based on the singular value decomposition(SVD) of a pulse response circulant matrix(PRCM) of a concerned system. It is first investigated that the PRCM (in the limit) contains a complete information of the frequency response of a system and its SVD decomposes the information into the respective principal directions at each frequency. This enables us to isolate the significant modes of the system and to devise the proposed order-reduction technique. Though the primary purpose of the proposed technique is to diminish the required computation in MPC, the clear frequency decomposition of the SVD of the PRCM also enables us to improve the robustness through selective excitation of frequency modes. Performance of the proposed technique is illustrated through two numerical examples.
This paper presents active vibration control scheme of multi-mode forced vibration using piezocetamic sensors and actuators. The control scheme adopted is the Positive Position Feedback (PPF) control. Among various vibration control techniques. PPF control technique makes use of generalized displacement measurements to accomplish the vibration suppression. Two independent controllers are implemented to control the first and the second modes of the beam under external excitation. Experimental results for various damping ratios and feedback gains of the PPF controllers are compared with respect to the contorl efficiency. The results indicate that steady state vibration under wide band excitation can be controlled effectively when multiple sets of PZT sensors and actuators were used with PPF control technique.
This paper studies the decentralized position/force control problem for constrained reconfigurable manipulator without torque sensing. A novel joint torque estimation scheme that exploits the existing structural elasticity of the manipulator joint with harmonic drive model is applied for each joint module. Based on the estimated joint torque and dynamic output feedback technique, a decentralized position/force control strategy is presented. In order to solve the problem of controller parameter perturbation, the non-fragile robust technique is introduced into the dynamic output feedback controller. Subsequently, the stability of the closed-loop system is proved using the Lyapunov theory and linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. Finally, two 2-DOF constrained reconfigurable manipulators with different configurations are applied to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme in numerical simulation.
