In PWR three-dimensional transient coupling calculation software CORCA-K, the nodal Green's function method and diagonal implicit Runge Kutta method are used to solve the spatiotemporal neutron dynamic diffusion equation, and the single-phase closed channel model and one-dimensional cylindrical heat conduction transient model are used to calculate the coolant temperature and fuel temperature. The LMW, NEACRP and PWR MOX/UO2 benchmarks and FangJiaShan (FJS) nuclear power plant (NPP) transient control rod move cases are used to verify the CORCA-K. The effects of burnup, fuel effective temperature and ejection rate on the control rod ejection process of PWR are analyzed. The conclusions are as follows: (1) core relative power and fuel Doppler temperature are in good agreement with the results of benchmark and ADPRES, and the deviation between with the reference results is within 3.0% in LMW and NEACRP benchmarks; 2) the variation trend of FJS NPP core transient parameters is consistent with the results of SMART and ADPRES. And the core relative power is in better agreement with the SMART when weighting coefficient is 0.7. Compared with SMART, the maximum deviation is -5.08% in the rod ejection condition and while -5.09% in the control rod complex movement condition.
The reed switch position transmitter (RSPT) is used as a position indicator for the control rod in commercial nuclear power plants made by ABB-CE. But this position indicator has some problems when directly adopting it to the integral reactor. The Control Element Drive Mechanism (CEDM) for the integral reactor is designed to raise and lower the control rod in steps of 2mm in order to satisfy the design features of the integral reactor which are the soluble boron free operation and the use of a nuclear heating for the reactor start-up. Therefore the resolution of the position indicator for the integral reactor should be achieved to sense the position of the control rod more precisely than that of the RSPT of the ABB-CE. This paper adopts seismic resistance reed switches to the position indicator in order to reduce the damages or impacts during the handling of the position indicator and earthquake.
In this paper, we describe a set of test facilities for the development of CRCS (Control Rod Control System). The test facilities consist of a code simulator CRDM (Control Rod Drive Mechanism) mockup, an input/output simulator for validation work and R-L load to simulate CRDM mockup.
In this paper, we propose a new model with the common Control Rod Control System which can be applied to both Korea Standard Nuclear Power Plant model and Westinghouse model. The common model classified by one control rod assembly can solve the common-mode failure. We digitalize the new model and make existing analog models simplified.

In order to commercialize the low cost composite fabrication technology in the area of domestic aerospace structure field, Resin Transfer Molding process has been considered as an alternative process to replace the high cost autoclave technology. The end part for the development of RTM process is the control rod of flight control system of aircraft. A braided preform was triaxially designed to improve the dimensional stability and mechanical property in the direction of external loads. Through the flow analysis using CVFEM, the resin filling time was calculated and the resin injection method was determined. The results of the flow analysis were directly applied to RTM mold design. The control rod was successfully manufactured by RTM process using internal pressure. The length and outer diameter of the manufactured part are 1148mm and 32mm, respectively.
Recently, severe wear on the shutdown rod cladding of Ulchin Nuclear Power Plant #1, #2 were observed by the Eddy Current Test(E.C.T.). In particular, the wear at the sixth card location was up to 75%. The test results indicated that the Flow Induced Vibration(F.I.V.) might be the cause of the fretting wear resulting from the contact between Rod Cluster Control Assemblies(RCCAs) and their spacing cards(guide plates) arranged in the guide tube. From reviewing RCCAs fretting wear repots and analyzing the general characteristics of F.I.V. mechanism in the reactor, geometric layout and flow conditions around the control rod, it is concluded that the turbulence excitation is the most probable vibration mechanism of RCCA. To identify the governing mechanism of RCCA vibration, an experiment was performed for a representative rod position in which the most serious fretting wear experienced among the six rod positions. The experimental rig was designed and set up to satisfy the governing nondimensional numbers which are Reynolds number and mass damping parameter. The vibration amplitude measurement by the non-contact laser displacement sensor showed good agreements in the frequency and the maximum wearing(vibration) location with Ulchin E.C.T. results and Framatome report, respectively. The sudden increase in the vibration amplitude was sensed around the 6th guide plate with mass flow rate variation. Comparing the similitude rod behaviour with the idealized response of a cylinder in flow induced vibration, it was found that he dominant mechanism of vibration was transferred from turbulence excitation to periodic shedding at the mass flow ate 90ι/min. Also the critical velocity of the vibration in RCCAs was determined and the vibration can be prevented by reducing the bypass flow rate below the critical velocity.

The purpose of this study was to verify the possibility of fuel rod pattern analysis in a fresh fuel assembly using the Yonsei single-photon emission computed tomography (YSECT) system. The YSECT system consisted of three main parts: four trapezoidal-shaped bismuth germanate scintillator-based 64-channel detectors, a semiconductor-based multi-channel data acquisition system, and a rotary stage. In order to assess the performance of the prototype YSECT, tomographic images were obtained for three representative fuel rod patterns in the 6 × 6 array using two representative image-reconstruction algorithms. The fuel-rod patterns were then assessed using an in-house fuel rod pattern analysis algorithm. In the experimental results, the single-directional projection images for those three fuel-rod patterns well discriminated each fuel-rod location, showing a Gaussian-peak-shaped projection for a single 10 mm-diameter fuel rod with 12.1 mm full-width at half maximum. Finally, we successfully verified the possibility of the fuel rod pattern analysis for all three patterns of fresh fuel rods with the tomographic images obtained by the rotational YSECT system.
This paper describes the application of the coupled FE-BEM (finite element-boundary element method) for the numerical harmonic analysis of the linear dynamic behaviour of a magnetostrictive Terfenol-D rod in water. The magnetostrictive rod is three-dimensionally simulated to transduce applied electric current in a helical coil around the rod to mechanical displacement. The theoretical derivation of the magnetostrictive matrix equation is described in detail. The steady-state resonance response of the displacement is shown. In addition, the directivity pattern and the radiation impedance are also shown.
We have designed the power control unit which belongs to the power cabinet and controls the power supplied to Control Rod Drive Mechanism(CRDM) as a digital system based on Digital Signal Processor(DSP). The power control unit dualized as the form of Master/Slave has had its increased reality. The Central Process Unit(CPU) board of a power control unit possesses two Digital Signal Processors(DSPs) of the control DSP for performing the tasks of power control and system monitoring and the communication of the Control DSP and the Communication DSP. To accomplish the functions requested in the power control unit effectively, we have installed Field Programmable Gate Arrays(FPGAS) on the CPU board and have FPGAs perform the memory mapping, the generation of each chip selection signal, the giving and receiving of the signals between the power controllers dualized, the fault detection and the generation of the firing signals.
