  • Double-effect absorption chiller-heaters have been widely installed in large buildings and are also becoming popular in mid-sized commercial buildings. While much emphasis is Put on designing energy saving and efficient chiller-heaters, careful attention must also be given to the design of control systems for these devices. Currently, these devices are controlled by their own built-in controllers, such as relay based sequence controller or microprocessor based controller.   • In this paper, we propose a design for an efficient hybrid LED street lighting management system using standalone solar photovoltaic. The proposed efficient hybrid LED street lighting management system was composed of hybrid power conditioning system, gateways, LED street lights and a monitoring server. The hybrid power conditioning system was designed to charge produced power by solar photovoltaic panels in day time, and supply power to the LED street lights in night time. If there is insufficient power, the system was designed to operate using firm power, because the system utilizes photovoltaic power. A system control algorithm allied to the lighting management system, and experimented by being configured to the functions that are able to perform real-time monitoring and remote control through the lighting management system even when absent. In the result of the efficiency analysis of the hybrid lighting management system proposed in this paper, we were able to increase the energy efficiency compared to existing lighting control systems by reducing power consumption and electricity costs.

  • Modern power system is operated and managed in closed network environment with treating a great variety of data, and requirement of real time power system data is more increasing. However, it is difficult for operators to fast evaluate the condition of power system using only isolation network system such as SCADA or EMS regarding unexpecting situations occurring. Recent technology achievement in areas of distributed computing, networking high speed communications and digital control as well as the availability of accurate GPS time source are rapidly becoming the enabling factors for the development of a new generation of real time power grid monitoring tools. In this paper, architecture of WAMAC which is the wide area monitoring and control system not only to control but also to monitoring in real time is proposed and the plan of integration interface with legacy system such as EMS for providing power system analysis base data effectively is suggested.

  • Recently, the control chart is developed for monitoring processes with normal short production runs by the coefficient of variation(CV) characteristic for a normal distribution. This control chart does not work well in non-normal short production runs. And most of industrial processes are known to follow the non-normal distribution. Therefore, the control chart is required to be developed for monitoring the processes with non-normal short production runs by the CV characteristics for a non-normal distribution. In this paper, we suggest the control chart for monitoring the processes with a gamma short runs by the CV characteristics for a gamma distribution. This control chart is denoted by the gamma CV control chart. Futhermore evaluated the performance of the gamma CV control chart by average run length(ARL).

  • In this paper, battery charging and discharging circuit with a single voltage power supply is proposed. The proposed circuit has the separated current path and charging-monitoring sequence control scheme. In the charging sequence, the proposed 2-level comparator combined with control signal of the micro-processor can control the constant charging current to protect the over current of the battery. Furthermore, the proposed circuit uses a periodic main power switch control to detect the discharging characteristics to estimate the approximated battery life-time. In the experiments, the proposed emergency power supply for emergency call system has 89% efficiency with 98% power factor. And the proposed sequence control scheme is well operated in the designed emergency power system.

  • This paper is concerned with the DC motor speed control using distributed control system. We design CAN nodes which can transmit control and monitoring data through CAN bus and apply these to distributed networked control system. The results of the experiment validate effectiveness of our distributed networked control system.

  • In these days, as it frequently happens that water level in the river exceeds the design floods due to irregular heavy rainfall, so it is required, first of an, to manage with railroad bridge safely. Because train control criterion under heavy rainfall is still not prepared and automatic flood monitoring system for railroad bridges is not used, worry over invisible economic loss due to train passage delay is in existence. Therefore, it is important to secure the safety and detect the risk like turnover or failure of railroad bridges through systematic disaster prevention system. And the transition from conventional monitoring method to real time monitoring method supported by sensors and communication system with high technology is rapidly needed. This research is on developing the real time flood monitoring system which prevents railroad disasters in advance by detecting continuously the water level of railroad bridge through CCD camera and water level gauge.

  • For home networking system with a function of air quality monitoring, a wireless sensor module with several air quality monitoring sensors was developed for indoor environment monitoring system in home networking. The module has various enlargements for various kinds of sensors such as humidity sensor, temperature sensor, CO2 sensor, flying dust sensor, and etc. The developed wireless module is very convenient to be installed on the wall of a room or office, and the sensors in the module can be easily replaced due to well designed module structure and RF connection method. To reduce the system cost, only one RF transmission block was used for sensors' signal transmission to 8051 microcontroller board in time sharing method. In this home networking system, various indoor environmental parameters could be monitored in real time from RF wireless sensor module. Indoor vision was transferred to client PC or PDA from surveillance camera installed indoor or desired site. Web server using Oracle DB was used for saving the visions by web-camera and various data from wireless sensor module.

  • Most of automotive plastic parts are injection molding products. Inspection of total product is impossible, because number of product to inspect is too many and various. Condition-based Monitoring was proposed to decrease cost and time for inspecting. In this research, a system that predicts quality of part at fabrication point of time, and confirms informations through the internet was developed. Cavity sensors were installed inside of mold, and gathered signals as measuring, and through this process Sensor-based Monitoring system can be observed manufacturing of a part. Monitoring system transmits signals to client through the internet, and finally developed system provides manufacturing informations and predictions of quality as web-based monitoring.
