  • This article presents theoretical investigations on techniques for the improvement of the dynamic characteristics of slender bridges under wind action. Aerodynamically effective control shields are applied as controlled actuators. The first part of the article describes the modelling of the uncontrolled aeroelastic system. Acting aerodynamic forces are consistently characterised using linear time-invariant transfer elements in terms of rational functions. On this basis, two configuration levels of the uncontrolled system are represented with linear time-invariant state-space models and investigated. The second part of the article addresses controller design and the behaviour of the controlled aeroelastic system. Both fundamental limits for stabilisation and the efficiency for attenuating the influence of gusts are described for different actuator mechanisms. The results are derived and discussed with methods of control theory.

  • Recently, there has been constituted the government regulations and the normative methods to control the safety management activities in construction fields, but almost of these regulations are ineffective, because of some characteristics safety management have. The needs of the times make government regulations and the normative methods change to autonomic management methods. In this context, it is significant certainly to improve the standard of safety management that is used as a tool to protect the workers from the accidents or industrial disasters in the construction field. In this research, it will be showed that the outside regulations and safety management systems of the head office have their limits to reflect the safety managements of field participants. Then, it will be presented the improved model of self-control safety management activities which is essential for success safety management.

  • This paper presents an active use of doubly-fed induction-generator(DFIG)-based variable-speed wind-turbine for voltage control in power system operation. For reasonable simulation studies, a detail dynamic model of a DFIG-based wind-turbine grid-connected system is presented. For the research objective, an innovative reactive power control scheme is proposed that manipulates dynamically the reactive power from the voltage source converter(VSC) with taking into account its operating state and limits.

  • This paper presents design of speed control system for slot less iron-cored PM linear synchronous motor using space vector PWM. the design must be considered by the useable limits of the DC link voltage and dynamic operating rage as well as the characteristics of design parameters in a point of system. Therefore, in this paper, the permissible operating range of manufactured motor by determination of rate speed and rate thrust according to switching scheme of DC link voltage are offered. The vector control requires information about rotor position. And we can need to the Hall sensor for sampling current. In order to agree with this purpose, Digital Signal Processor(TMS320F240x) developed for implementation of a speed Field Oriented Control.

  • The large scale industry needs high voltage converters. Therefore series connection of power semiconductor devices is necessary. It is important to prevent a device induced the overvoltage above ratings by proper voltage balancing in the field of IGBT series connection. In addition, the overvoltage induced by a stray inductance has to be limited in the high power circuit. This paper proposes a new gate control scheme which can balance the voltage properly and limit the overshoot by control the slope of collector voltage under series connected IGBT turn-off transient. The propose gate control scheme limits the overvoltage by sensing the collector voltage and controlling the gate signal actively. The new series connected IGBT gate driver is made and its validity is verified by the experimental results for series connected IGBT circuit.

  • There are many uses of control charts in health-care monitoring and in public-health surveillance. For example, control charts are used in monitoring and improvement of hospital performance, in monitoring chronic diseases and infectious diseases, and so on. We introduce the Variable Life-Adjusted Display (VLAD) chart and propose the method for choosing control limits of the VLAD chart to give specified in-control properties.

  • The EWMA(Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) has recently received a great deal of attention in the quality control literature as a process monitoring tool on the shop floor of manufacturing industires, since it is easy to plot, to interpret, and its control limits are easy to obtain. Most a, pp.ications of the EWMA for process monitoring have concentrated on the problem of detecting shifts of a process mean and a process standard deviation with ARL(Average Run Length) properties. But there may be the necessity of controlling linearity on product quality such as the correlation coefficient to the process operator. Control managers may want to protect the increase of a process correlation coefficient value, such as 0, between two variables of interest. However, there are few studies concerned on this part. Therefore, we propose EWMA models for a process correlation coefficient using two transformed statistics, T-statistic and (Fisher's) Z-statistic. We also present some results of simulation by SAS/IML and compare two models.

  • This research investigates the potential of Adaptive TMDs for tall building damping. The Adaptive TMD under consideration is based on real-time controlled hydraulic dampers generating purely dissipative control forces. The control approach is designed to enhance the Adaptive TMD efficiency for moderate wind loads with return periods below 50 years. The resulting enhanced TMD efficiency is used to reduce the pendulum mass by 15% compared to the passive TMD while still guaranteeing the acceleration limits of the one and ten year return period winds. Furthermore, the adaptive control approach is designed to disproportionally increase the controlled damping force at wind loads with return periods of 50 years and more in order to reduce the maximum relative motion of the Adaptive TMD with only 85% pendulum mass. Compared to the passive TMD with 100% pendulum mass the maximum relative motion is reduced by 20%. Both the pendulum mass reduction and the maximum relative motion reduction significantly reduce the foot print of the Adaptive TMD which is highly desirable from the economic point of view.

  • This paper presents a fault-tolerant control technique for wind turbine systems with sensor and actuator faults. The control objective is to maximize power production and minimize turbine loads by calculating a desired pitch angle within their limits. Any fault with a sensor and actuator can cause significant error in the pitch position of the corresponding blade. This problem may result in insufficient torque such that the power reference cannot be achieved. In this paper, a fault-tolerant control technique using a robust dynamic inversion observer and control allocation is employed to achieve successful pitch control despite these faults in the sensor and actuator. The observer based detection method is used to detect and isolate sensor faults by checking whether errors are larger than threshold values. In addition, the control allocation technique is adopted to tolerate actuator fault. Control allocation is one of the most commonly used fault-tolerant control techniques, especially for over-actuated systems. Further, the control allocation method can be used to achieve the power reference even in the event of blade actuator fault by redistributing the lost torque due to erroneous pitch position into non-faulty blade actuators. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through simulations with a benchmark model of the wind turbine.

  • Whereas in non-symmetrical distribution manufacturing process they are not plotted relatively on the centeral line but plotted on the skew of right-hand side or left-hand side. That is to say, for the prupose of producing either upper-specification-oriented items or lower-specification-oriented items, and when we carry out tighter control so as to have them pass only its specifications, the distribution shape naturally has a non-normal distribution. In these cases, we could use either compressed control limits or variable transformed logarithm control charts. It the above mentioned methods were not available, we should use special purpose control chart-Mode control chart or Gram-Charlier control chart. These are proper methods for manufacturing process control which uses control chart method. In spite of these methods, domestic manufacturing and mining companies are utterly ignorant about these methods. That invites practical problems in their companies. To enhance this improvements, I proved the property of practical applications of control chart method by comparing and analyzing the case studies of practical application of speical purpose control chart method, and also by introducing the application methods.
