This study was conducted as a descriptive study with the aim of identifying the effects of safety knowledge and safety control on early childhood teachers' safety performance. Data collection for the study was carried out between October $10^{th}$ and $30^{th}$, 2014 by surveying 187 early childhood teachers working in child day care center and kindergarten located in P, K, & Y city. Measures were subjects' safety knowledge, safety control, and safety performance. For the analysis of the data, the statistical methods of frequency, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis were employed. When the category of safety performance was analyzed by general features, marital status, educational career, and degree of assistance of safety education, there were significant differences. Safety performance correlated positively with safety knowledge and safety control. Factors affecting early childhood teachers' safety performance were identified in the order of safety knowledge and safety control and the explanatory power was 60.0%. The findings of the study indicate that in order to increase early childhood teachers' safety performance, their safety knowledge and safety control have to be enhanced.

Purpose: Purpose: This study aimed to identify whether infection control practice would correlate significantly with the knowledge and attitude of infection control in the pre-, mid-, and postvisiting rounds among community-visiting nurses. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted based on the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) model by administrating questionnaires during September-October 2020. A total of 65 nurses working for 15 community health centers in Seoul, South Korea were included. The questionnaires were developed based on the epidemiologic triangle model and comprised of 28 items on practice, 18 items on knowledge, and 10 items on attitude. Results: The infection control practice showed a mean of 88.9 (range, 0-100). The infection control knowledge had 89.2% on the host domain, 80.0% on the environment domain, and 74.8% on the agent domain (range, 0-100). The infection control attitude showed a mean of 39.5 (range, 0-50). Higher scores on the infection control practice are significantly correlated with the higher scores on the infection control knowledge about the host domain (p= .004) at the pre-, mid-, and post-visiting rounds. Higher scores on the infection control practice are significantly correlated with the higher scores on the infection control attitude at the mid- (p= .018) and postvisiting rounds (p= .028). Conclusions: The infection control practice by community-visiting nurses may be enhanced with increased knowledge and attitude levels of infection control at the mid- and post-visiting rounds. The enhancement should be included in the on-the-job education for community-visiting nurses.

The purpose of this study is to identify the knowledge of and adherence to the infection control guidelines for indwelling urinary catheters, central venous catheters and ventilators among intensive care nurses. The subjects were 175 intensive care nurses working in 2 upper general hospitals and 3 general hospitals. Data were collected from July 1 to July 31, 2013. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA using SPSS 18.0 for Windows. The mean scores of the knowledge of the infection control guidelines on indwelling urinary catheters, central venous catheters and ventilators were 0.87, 0.82 and 0.82 points, respectively. The average scores for the adherence to the infection control guidelines for indwelling urinary catheters, central venous catheters and ventilators were 4.18, 4.04 and 4.07 points, respectively. Statistically significant correlations were found between the knowledge of and adherence to the infection control guidelines for indwelling urinary catheters (r=.72, p<.00), central venous catheters (r=.54, p<.001) and ventilators (r=.30, p<.001). The knowledge of and adherence to the infection control guidelines for indwelling urinary catheters differed significantly according to gender, educational status, total career, number of patients, type of hospital, and attendance of seminar. The knowledge of and adherence to the infection control guidelines for central venous catheters differed significantly according to educational status, total career, number of patients, type of hospital, and attendance of seminar. The knowledge level of the infection control guidelines for the ventilator differed significantly according to the total career. The results of this study indicate that education and training programs for improving the knowledge of adherence to the infection control guidelines should be developed.
Purpose: This study was to provide baseline data about nurses' Influenza A (H1N1) knowledge, awareness, and practice of infection control and to identify the significant factor affecting the level of practice. Methods: The subjects of this study were 144 nurses who worked at Influenza A (H1N1) regional base Hospital in D city. Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires during September 2009. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Results: The knowledge of Influenza A (H1N1) was statistically different according to age, unit, career and experience of seasonal influenza vaccination during the last year. The awareness of infection control was statistically different according to age, career, experience of seasonal influenza vaccination for last year and intention to get seasonal influenza vaccination for this year. The practice of infection control was statistically different according to unit, experience of seasonal influenza vaccination for last year, intention to get seasonal influenza vaccination for this year and intention to get Influenza A (H1N1) vaccination for this year. There was positive correlation among knowledge, awareness and practice (p < .05). Awareness was the significant factor affecting the level of practice. Conclusion: An educational program focusing on strategy to change nurse's awareness can be effective for infection control of Influenza A (H1N1) in regional base hospitals.

Purpose: This research was conducted to compare the effect of a wellness program on knowledge of obesity and weight loss in women schizophrenia inpatients. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used for this study. A total of 44 patients with schizophrenia were randomly divided into an experimental group (22) and a control group (22) in a 12-week multimodal weight control program. For 6 weeks, the experimental group received approximately an hour of teaching on obesity interventions and for another 6 weeks one hour of teaching on exercise and weight control interventions while the control group received the usual care. The outcome variables were measured before and after the program. Data was analyzed with the ${\chi}^2$-test and t-test using PASW Statistics 18. Results: For those who completed the weight control program, there was a mean weight loss of 1.37kg by the end of the intervention. The experimental group showed significant improvement in knowledge of obesity and weight loss. Conclusion: The wellness program was effective in reducing the weight of women schizophrenia patients as well as being effective in increasing knowledge of obesity. Therefore, nurses must consistently educate women schizophrenia inpatients about health care and knowledge of obesity.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate factors influencing influenza infection control compliance in nurses, including knowledge about, and awareness of infection control. Methods: The study participants were 168 nurses who worked at a hospital in J Province. Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires in April 2015. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: Mean score for knowledge about droplet precaution was 12.16 out of 16.00. Mean score for awareness about droplet precautions was 3.49 out of 4.00, and mean score for droplet precaution compliance was 3.33 out of 4.00. There was a positive correlation among knowledge, awareness and compliance (p<.001). Awareness, knowledge and experience of seasonal influenza education were the significant factors affecting the level of compliance (37.8%). Conclusion: Study results indicate that an educational program focusing on strategies to change nurses' awareness would be effective in improving infection control of respiratory virus and droplet precaution compliance in hospitals.
Purpose: This study was undertaken to identify the knowledge and compliance level of nursing students. It was based on self-administered questionnaires about multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs). Methods: The test group was 184 nursing students who had contact with MDROs during clinical practice. The study was conducted from May 1 to September 16, 2011. Results: The average knowledge level of MDROs was 16.20 (correct answer rate: 67.5%). The nurses' compliance level of MDROs infection control was on average 40.50 (range: 13-52). "Hand hygiene" ranked highest in the compliance level of MDROs infection control. The lowest level of MDRO infection control was the wearing of disposable aprons or gowns. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the nursing students' knowledge and the compliance level of infection control. We suggest that nursing students receive mandated systematic education of MDROs in the nursing curriculum. And clinical practice experience of MDROs infection control is required in hospitals. These steps will help prevent transmission of MDROs in nursing settings.
Purpose: This study aimed at providing guidelines and educational manuals on infection control for the home care environment, by assessing the knowledge and performance among the caregivers in home care. Methods: Data were collected from January to March 2013. Participants were 172 caregivers who were registered in the home nursing center of university hospitals. Results: The total score on the level of knowledge of infection control was 13.28 points (${\pm}3.49$) out of 20 points. Secondly, 4.15 points were obtained for individual hygiene management, 4.14 points for hand wash, and 3.86 points for environment management. Lastly, the relationship between the knowledge and performance of infection control showed a significant positive correlation (r=0.37, p<.001). Conclusion: In many instances, the caregivers in the home environment provide nursing care for patients with chronic diseases and make use of various invasive devices. This study recommends the development of a manual or educational guidelines on infection control that can be used by caregivers at the home.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among knowledge, attitudes, and the use of negative control maintenance techniques toward older adults among nurses working in geriatric hospitals (n=86). Methods: Data were collected from April 4th to May 30th in 2006 by using questionnaires of Fact on Aging Quiz Part I, Aging Semantic Differential Scaling, and Control Maintenance Techniques. Results: The findings showed that the nurses displayed lack of knowledge concerning older adults and their average rate of correct answer was 45.6%. They also hold some negative bias and attitudes, especially in psychological and social aspects. The level of using negative control maintenance techniques in managing older patients' problematic behaviors was reported as the mean of 5.65 with a possible range of 0-40. Nurse's knowledge of older adults was positively associated with their attitudes toward older adults, but their knowledge and attitudes were not associated with the use of negative control maintenance techniques. Conclusion: It is necessary to provide educational programs for nurses that focus on a comprehensive understanding of aging with lifetime developmental perspectives. Further studies are needed to understand the factors associated with using negative control maintenance techniques and to evaluate the intervention programs in reducing the use of negative control maintenance techniques.
This study was conducted to investigate the change in the anthropometric values, biochemical index, nutritional knowledge, food habits and nutrient intakes in obese children after a weight control program. The subjects of the study were 22 obese children with an obesity index over 120%. The children that participated in this study took nutritional education for weight control along with exercise once a week. The weight control program was conducted for 10 weeks. The BMI, WHR (Waist-Hip ratio), body fat (%) significantly decreased at the end of the weight control program. Total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol were also significantly decreased. The nutritional knowledge scores and knowledge score about obesity were slightly improved. Energy intake significantly decreased from 1768 to 1421 kcal. Intake of Ca, Na, K, vitamin A, vitamin $B_6$, vitamin C and folate increased, while intakes of P, Zn, vitamin $B_1$, vitamin $B_2$, vitamin E and niacin decreased. The distribution of energy intake was significantly changed for the better. The percent fat consumed decreased from 26.5 to 19.7%. In addition, the distribution of energy intake in the meals was changed, where the percent calories consumed during lunch significantly increased from 31.4 to 40.1% and the calorie percentage consumed from snacks significantly decreased from 17.6 to 10.7%. In conclusion, the nutritional education in the weight control program, which was conducted for 10 weeks, was effective in improving the anthropometric values, biochemical index and nutrient intake although nutrition knowledge and eating behaviors only changed slightly. Thus, nutritional weight control programs for obese children should be continuously provided under the proper cooperation of a nutritional teacher at elementary schools.
