  • The conventional sliding mode control(SMC) technique requires a prior knowledge of the upperbounds of external disturbance to guarantee a robust control performance. This, however, may not be easy to identity in practice. This paper presents a new methodology, sliding mode control with disturbance estimator(SMCDE), which offers a robust control performance without a prior knowledge of the upperbounds. The proposed technique is featured by an integrated average value of the imposed disturbance over a certain period. The proposed technique is applied to the position control of AC servo motor, and experimental results are compared between the conventional and proposed schemes.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate a social competence enrichment program for institutionalized children in early childhood. The program was developed to enhance institutionalized children's social competence. The program consists of sixteen 30-minute sessions. 19 institutionalized children (11 boys and 8 girls) participated in this program. The effect of this program was evaluated by institutionalized preschool children's emotional knowledge and interpersonal problem solving strategy. Assessment of emotional knowledge consists of identification and situation task. Interpersonal problem solving strategy includes forceful, prosocial, and manipulative strategy. Results showed that there was a significant experimental effect for emotional knowledge. Experimental children showed higher scores of emotional knowledge than control children. Also, there was a significant experimental effect for prosocial and forceful strategy. Experimental children showed higher ratio of prosocial strategy and lower ratio of forceful strategy than control children. The results of program evaluation revealed that this program was helpful for promoting institutionalized children's social competence.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a peer cervical cancer prevention education program on Korean female college students' knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, and intention. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a non-equivalent control group was used. The participants were 58 female college students in a metropolitan city in Korea. The sample consisted of an intervention group (n=28) that participated in a peer education program and a control group (n=30). Data were measured using self-administered questionnaires at two time points: prior to the intervention and after the intervention. Results: Compared to the control group, the experimental group reported significantly positive changes for knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, and intent to practice cervical cancer prevention behaviors. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicated that a peer education program developed for Korean female college students was a useful and effective intervention strategy to promote cervical cancer prevention behaviors in Korean sociocultural contexts.

  • Multi-valued decision making for transitional stochastic events was newly derived based on conditional probability of knowledge database which included experts'knowledge and experience. The proposed multi-valued decision making was successfully adopted to the determination of the five levels of the vigilance of a subject during the EEG (electroencephalogram) recording; awake stage (stage W), and sleep stages (stage REM (rapid eye movement), stage 1, stage 2, stage $\sfrac{3}{4}$). Innovative feature of the proposed method is that the algorithm of decision making can be constructed only by use of the knowledge database, inspected by experts. The proposed multi-valued decision making with a mathematical background of the probability can also be applicable widely, in industries and in other medical fields for purposes of the multi-valued decision making.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of an education program promoting safety knowledge and safety practice for mothers with infants. Method: This education was provided at two public health centers in Kyunggi Province. A non-equivalent control group pretest-post test design was used, and the participants were 95 mothers in the experimental group, and 44 mothers in the control group. Data were collected using a questionnaire, and were analyzed with the SPSS program. Results: After the group education sessions on safety management at the public health centers, the mean scores for knowledge and practice of safety in the experimental group were significantly higher than that of mothers in the control group mothers. Also, after the safety education, mothers in the experimental group perceived a higher priority in safety in child care than they had before the education program. Conclusion: The education for mothers with infants regarding the child safety was effective in promoting knowledge and practice of safety for infants.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship among pereption of obesity, experience of weight control control and satisfaction with body image in adolescence. The subjects were 221 high school students(91 boys, 130 grils), aged 16.7 years living in a rural area. To determine the perception of obesity, knowledge about obesity, belidfs about obese people, and attitudes towards obese people were measured. The results were as follows: There was high correlation between beliefs about obese people and attitudes toward obese people. When the perception of obesity was compared by sex, girls had significantly more accurate knowledge, stronger beliefs that obesity couldn't be controlled by oneself, the higher the eating disturbance score was. It also appeared that BMI was positively correlated with the positive attitude towards obese people.

  • Purpose: This study is to evaluate the effects of drug abuse prevention program for elementary school students. Method: The design of this study is nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of experimental group were 27 students and the subjects of control group were 25 students in fifth grade of elementary school in C City, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The experimental group had Drug Abuse Prevention Program, which was two days per week program, for 5 weeks. And post-test was carried out in the same way as the pre-test. Data analysis was done using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test, t-test, Paired Samples t-test using with SPSS WIN 11.0. Result: the experimental group, to which drug abuse prevention program was given, was improved in knowledge of drug and unacceptable attitude of drug compared to the control group, but there were no significant differences of self-esteem and assertiveness between two groups. Conclusion: The drug abuse prevention program was effective to increase knowledge and attitude of drug in elementary school students.

  • A lot of pieces of iron plate are used to build a ship. The states of cutting surface of iron are however bended or ununiformly cuttled by cutting machine. These may cause bad Quality of painting, and shorter lifetime of iron by rust. In this paper, a new approach of grinding force control method which teaching of robot is not required is proposed to avoid long preparation time of robot and to improve the productivity. The way used in this paper is just like a blind man works through the road with stick only.

  • This study aimed to improve mothers' knowledge, attitude, and practice of home safety. The study subjects were 146 mothers who were randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group. The intervention group received a Home Safety program at a childcare center for 90 minutes once a week for 5 sessions, while the control group received no treatment. The scores of the mothers in the intervention group were significantly increased compared to those in the control group after the five-week program. The mothers' safety practice lasted for at least two weeks after the termination of this program.
