In this paper, a novel neighborhood metric of histogram equalization (HE) algorithm for contrast enhancement is presented. We present a refinement of HE using neighborhood metrics with a general framework which orders pixels based on a sequence of sorting functions which uses both global and local information to remap the image greylevels. We tested a novel sorting key with the suggestion of using the original image greylevel as the primary key and a novel neighborhood distinction metric as the secondary key, and compared HE using proposed distinction metric and other HE methods such as global histogram equalization (GHE), HE using voting metric and HE using contrast difference metric. We found that our method can preserve advantages of other metrics, while reducing drawbacks of them and avoiding undesirable over-enhancement that can occur with local histogram equalization (LHE) and other methods.
The contrast enhancement is great challenge in the image processing when images are suffering from poor contrast problem. Therefore, in order to overcome this problem an automatic method is proposed for contrast enhancement of natural color images. The proposed method consist of two stages: in first stage lightness component in YIQ color space is normalized by sigmoid function after the adaptive histogram equalization is applied on Y component and in second stage automatic color contrast enhancement algorithm is applied on output of the first stage. The proposed algorithm is tested on different NASA color images, hyperspectral color images and other types of natural color images. The performance of proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with the other existing contrast enhancement algorithms in terms of colorfulness metric and color enhancement factor. The higher values of colorfulness metric and color enhancement factor imply that the visual quality of the enhanced image is good. Simulation results demonstrate that proposed algorithm provides higher values of colorfulness metric and color enhancement factor as compared to other existing contrast enhancement algorithms. The proposed algorithm also provides better visual enhancement results as compared with the other existing contrast enhancement algorithms.

Night-time image quality evaluation is an urgent requirement in visual inspection. The lighting environment of night-time results in low brightness, low contrast, loss of detailed information, and colour dissonance of image, which remains a daunting task of delicately evaluating the image quality at night. A new blind quality assessment metric is presented for realistic night-time scenario through a comprehensive consideration of contrast, texture, and colour in this article. To be specific, image blocks' color-gray-difference (CGD) histogram that represents contrast features is computed at first. Next, texture features that are measured by the mean subtracted contrast normalized (MSCN)-weighted local binary pattern (LBP) histogram are calculated. Then statistical features in Lαβ colour space are detected. Finally, the quality prediction model is conducted by the support vector regression (SVR) based on extracted contrast, texture, and colour features. Experiments conducted on NNID, CCRIQ, LIVE-CH, and CID2013 databases indicate that the proposed metric is superior to the compared BIQA metrics.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to propose contrast metric which is based on the human visual perception and thus it can be used to improve the quality of digital images in many applications. Methods: Previous literatures are surveyed, and then the proposed method is modeled based on Human Visual System(HVS) such as multiscale property of the contrast sensitivity function (CSF), contrast constancy property (suprathreshold), color channel property. Furthermore, experiments using digital images are shown to prove the effectiveness of the method. Results: The results of this study are as follows; regarding the proposed contrast measure of complex images, it was found by experiments that HVS follows relatively well compared to the previous contrast measurement. Conclusion: This study shows the effectiveness on how to measure the contrast of complex images which follows human perception better than other methods.
Emotional image quality optimization methodologies are investigated using technological image quality controls based on the eye tests of various image samples. The images are evaluated based on various contrast, lightness and saturation image quality metric tone curves. The order of importance to image quality enhancements is contrast, saturation and brightness. The slopes of emotional image qualities with respect to technical image quality metric changes are found to be composed of mathematical function modelling with nearly zero, intermediate and maximum slope regions in general, which can reflect well known log and saturated as well as conventional reverse U shape natures. Image quality improvements are analyzed not only with just single but also with multiple image quality metrics. To ease the unified image quality metric analysis and control, a new function is presented to utilize both the newly found and conventional emotional image quality behaviors. It is found that the overall image quality enhancement can be realized only in a few limited cases of multiple image quality metric controls. It is also found that the kinds of image quality enhancement methodologies are not strongly dependent on image contents (genre).
The notion of weak contraction in intuitionistic fuzzy metric space is well known and its study is well entrenched in the literature. This paper introduces the notion of (${\psi},{\alpha},{\beta}$)-weak contraction in intuitionistic fuzzy metric space. In this contrast, we prove certain coincidence point results in partially ordered intuitionistic fuzzy metric spaces for functions which satisfy a certain inequality involving three control functions. In the course of investigation, we found that by imposing some additional conditions on the mappings, coincidence point turns out to be a fixed point. Moreover, we establish a theorem as an application of our results.
The linear and quadratic log contrast model with mixtures on the strictly positive simplex, $$ x_{q-1} = {(x_1, \cdots, x_q):\sum x_, = 1 and \delta \leq \frac{x_i}{x_j} \leq \frac{1}{\delta} for all i,j},$$ are considered. Using the invariance arguments, symmetric D-optimal designs are investigated. The class of symmetric D-optimal designs for the linear log contrasts model is given. Any D-optimal design for the quadratic log contrast model is shown to metric D-optimal designs for q=3 and 4 cases are given.
A variety of different metrics has been introduced to measure the similarity of two given sequences. These widely used metrics are ranging from spell correctors and categorizers to new sequence mining applications. Different metrics consider different aspects of sequences, but the essence of any sequence is extracted from the ordering of its elements. In this paper, we propose a novel sequence similarity measure that is based on all ordered pairs of one sequence and where a Hasse diagram is built in the other sequence. In contrast with existing approaches, the idea behind the proposed sequence similarity metric is to extract all ordering features to capture sequence properties. We designed a clustering problem to evaluate our sequence similarity metric. Experimental results showed the superiority of our proposed sequence similarity metric in maximizing the purity of clustering compared to metrics such as d2, Smith-Waterman, Levenshtein, and Needleman-Wunsch. The limitation of those methods originates from some neglected sequence features, which are considered in our proposed sequence similarity metric.

Our study explores the connection between the Pythagorean theorem and the Fixed-point theorem in metric spaces. Both of which center around the concepts of distance transformations and point relationships. The Pythagorean theorem deals with right triangles in Euclidean space, emphasizing distances between points. In contrast, fixed-point theorems pertain to the points that remain unchanged under specific transformations thereby preserving distances. The article delves into the intrinsic correlation between these concepts and presents a novel study in Euclidean metric spaces, examining the relationship between contraction mapping and Pythagorean Right Triangles. Practical applications are also discussed particularly in the context of image compression. Here, the integration of the Pythagorean right triangle paradigm with contraction mappings results in efficient data representation and the preservation of visual data relation-ships. This illustrates the practical utility of seemingly abstract theories in addressing real-world challenges.

To assess image quality accurately, an image quality assessment (IQA) metric is required to reflect the human visual system (HVS) properly. In other words, the structure, color, and contrast ratio of the image should be evaluated in consideration of various factors. In addition, as mobile embedded devices such as smartphone become popular, a fast computing speed is important. In this paper, the proposed IQA metric combines color similarity, gradient similarity, and phase similarity synergistically to satisfy the HVS and is designed by using optimized pooling and quantization for fast computation. The proposed IQA metric is compared against existing 13 methods using 4 kinds of evaluation methods. The experimental results show that the proposed IQA metric ranks the first on 3 evaluation methods and the first on the remaining method, next to VSI which is the most remarkable IQA metric. Its computing speed is on average about 20% faster than VSI's. In addition, we find that the proposed IQA metric has a bigger amount of correlation with the HVS than existing IQA metrics.
