  • In the fast sampling limit, the delta operator model tends to the analog system model. This fundamental property of the delta operator model unifies continuous and discrete time control system. In this paper, we study robust linear optimal model following servo system in the presence of disturbances and parameter perturbations. A technique to directly design the generalized differential operator based unified control system that convers both differential operator based continuous time and delta operator based discrete time case is presented. The quadratic criterion function for a linear system is used to design the robust unified servo control. The characteristics of the proposed servo system are analysed and simulated to verify the robustness.

  • In this paper, the hybrid state space self-tuning control technique Is studied within the framework of fuzzy systems and dual-rate sampling control theory. We show that fuzzy modeling techniques can be used to formulate chaotic dynamical systems. Then, we develop the hybrid state space self-tuning fuzzy control techniques with dual-rate sampling for digital control of chaotic systems. An equivalent fast-rate discrete-time state-space model of the continuous-time system is constructed by using fuzzy inference systems. To obtain the continuous-time optimal state feedback gains, the constructed discrete-time fuzzy system is converted into a continuous-time system. The developed optimal continuous-time control law is then convened into an equivalent slow-rate digital control law using the proposed digital redesign method. The proposed technique enables us to systematically and effective]y carry out framework for modeling and control of chaotic systems. The proposed method has been successfully applied for controlling the chaotic trajectories of Chua's circuit.

  • In this paper, we show that there exists an optimal investment policy for the surplus in a risk model, in which the surplus is continuously invested to other business at a constant rate a > 0, whenever the level of the surplus exceeds a given threshold V > 0. We assign, to the risk model, two costs, the penalty per unit time while the level of the surplus being under V > 0 and the opportunity cost per unit time by keeping a unit amount of the surplus. After calculating the long-run average cost per unit time, we show that there exists an optimal investment rate $a^*$>0 which minimizes the long-run average cost per unit time, when the claim amount follows an exponential distribution.

  • This paper investigates the dynamics and stability of steady states in a continuous and discrete-time single-mode laser system. By using an explicit criteria we explored the Neimark-Sacker bifurcation of the single mode continuous and discrete-time laser model at its positive equilibrium points. Moreover, we discussed the parametric conditions for the existence of period-doubling bifurcations at their positive steady states for the discrete time system. Both types of bifurcations are verified by the Lyapunov exponents, while the maximum Lyapunov ensures chaotic and complex behaviour. Furthermore, in a three-dimensional discrete-time laser model, we used a hybrid control method to control period-doubling and Neimark-Sacker bifurcation. To validate our theoretical discussion, we provide some numerical simulations.

  • An alternative state estimation filtering algorithm is designed for continuous time systems with noises as well as control input. Two kinds of estimation filters, which have different measurement memory structures, are operated selectively in order to use both filters effectively as needed. Firstly, the estimation filter with infinite memory structure is operated for a certain continuous time system. Secondly, the estimation filter with finite memory structure is operated for temporarily uncertain continuous time system. That is, depending on the presence of uncertainty, one of infinite memory structure and finite memory structure filtered estimates is operated selectively to obtain the valid estimate. A couple of test variables and declaration rule are developed to detect uncertainty presence or uncertainty absence, to operate the suitable one from two kinds of filtered estimates, and to obtain ultimately the valid filtered estimate. Through computer simulations for a continuous time aircraft engine system with different measurement memory lengths and temporary model uncertainties, the proposed state estimation filtering algorithm can work well in temporarily uncertain as well as certain continuous time systems. Moreover, the proposed state estimation filtering algorithm shows remarkable superiority to the infinite memory structure filtering when temporary uncertainties occur in succession.

  • In this paper in order to prevent break of operation of equipments resulted from the delay of parts supply, the continuous review(Q, r) inventory model with probabilistic lead time is developed. If the lead tire is random varivable, the cycle also is stochastic. Then it is not easy to obtain the total cost equation of this inventory model. Therefore it is assumed that one cycle is the interval of reorder points. When the lead time is assumed to have exponential probability distribution, the lot-size and reorder point which minimize total cost are obtained. And as the lead time increases, the order quantity and the total cost are greater, but the reorder point increases by a certain point of time and then decreases.

  • In this paper, we propose new digital optimal control approach for controlling continuous-time nonlinear chaotic systems, which show very complex behavior and cannot be easily controlled by conventional control methods. Most real systems are represented as continuous-time system, whereas some control methods should be implemented under the condition of computer-based platforms, which are discrete-time systems. To achieve the control objective for chaotic systems successfully, the sampled-data controller, which considers the inter-sample behavior of the continuous-time systems effectively, should be needed. The proposed optimal controller is designed based on the linearized estimation model of chaotic systems. By the computer simulation, we show the control ...

  • In this paper, a Mobile Continuous Query Processing System (MCQPS) is designed to solve problems related to database hoarding, maintenance of shared data consistency, and optimization of logging. These problems are caused by weak connectivity and disconnection of wireless networks inherent in mobile database systems under mobile client-server environments. We show the superiority of the proposed MCQPS by comparing its performance to the Client-Intercept-Server (C-I-S) model. In addition, several experimental results show the effectiveness of our proposed indexing structure and methodology for real-time continuous queries.

  • A unified approach to continuous and discrete-time Nehari problems, based on recently developed results by the authors for the one-block and Hankel-norm model reduction problems, is proposed. First, we derive discrete-time solutions in delta domain where numerical error is small and then we show that the derived form becomes same as the continuous form when the sampling interval approaches to zero.
