Conventional space vector pulse width modulation based asymmetrical dual inverter configuration produces high common mode voltage (CMV) variations. This CMV causes the flow of common mode current, which adversely affects the motor bearings and electromagnetic interference of nearby electronic systems. In this study, a simple and generalized carrier based pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is proposed for dual inverter configuration. This simple approach generates various continuous and discontinuous modulating signals based PWM algorithms. With the application of the discontinuous modulating signal based PWM algorithm to the asymmetrical dual inverter configuration, the CMV can be reduced with a slightly improved quality of output voltage. The performance of the continuous and discontinuous modulating signals based PWM algorithms is explored through both theoretical and experimental studies. Results show that the discontinuous modulating signal based PWM algorithm efficiently reduces the CMV and switching losses.

This paper explores different vibration control strategies for the cancellation of human-induced vibration on a structure with time-varying modal parameters. The main motivation of this study is a lively urban stress-ribbon footbridge (Pedro $G\acute{o}mez$ Bosque, Valladolid, Spain) that, after a whole-year monitoring, several natural frequencies within the band of interest (normal paring frequency range) have been tracked. The most perceptible vibration mode of the structure at approximately 1.8 Hz changes up to 20%. In order to find a solution for this real case, this paper takes the annual modal parameter estimates (approx. 14000 estimations) of this mode and designs three control strategies: a) a tuned mass damper (TMD) tuned to the most-repeated modal properties of the aforementioned mode, b) two semi-active TMD strategies, one with an on-off control law for the TMD damping, and other with frequency and damping tuned by updating the damper force. All strategies have been carefully compared considering two structure models: a) only the aforementioned mode and b) all the other tracked modes. The results have been compared considering human-induced vibrations and have helped the authors on making a decision of the most advisable strategy to be practically implemented.

In this paper, a new CMOS continuous-time fully-differential current-mode integrator is proposed as a basic building block of the low-voltage high frequency current-mode active filter. The proposed integrator is composed of the CMOS complementary circuit which can extend transconductance of an integrator. Therefore, the unity gain frequency which is determined by a small-signal transconductance and a MOSFET gate capacitance can be expanded by the complementary transconductance of the proposed integrator. And also the magnitude of pole and zero are increased. The unity gain frequency of the proposed integrator is increased about two times larger than that of the conventional continuous-time fully-differential integrator with NMOS-gm. These results are verified by the small signal analysis and the SPICE simulation. As an application circuit of the proposed fully-differential current-mode integrator, the three-pole Chebyshev lowpass filter is designed using 0.8.$\mu$m CMOS processing parameters. SPICE simulation predicts a 3-dB bandwidth of 148MHz and power dissipation of 4.3mW/pole for the three-pole filter with 3-V power supply.

An active power factor correction (PFC) circuit is presented which employs a newly proposed input voltage sensor-less control technique operated in continuous conduction mode (CCM) and critical conduction mode (CRM). The conventional PFC circuit with input voltage sensor-less control technique degrades the power factor (PF) under the light load condition due to DCM operation. In the proposed PFC circuit, the switching frequency is basically 70KHz in CCM operation. In light load condition, however, the PFC circuit operates in CRM and the switching frequency is increased up to 200KHz. So CCM/CRM operation of the PFC circuit alleviates the decreasing of the PF in light load condition. The proposed PFC controller IC has been implemented in a $0.35{\mu}m$ BCDMOS process and a 240W PFC prototype is built. Experimental results shows the PF of the proposed PFC circuit is improved up to 10% from the one employing the conventional CCM/DCM dual mode control technique. Also, the PF is improved up to 4% in the light load condition of the IEC 61000-3-2 Class D specifications.
Free vibration analysis for continuous bridge under any number of vehicles is conducted in this paper. Calculation strategy for natural frequency and mode shape is proposed based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and numerical assembly method. Firstly, a half-car planar model is adopted; equations of motion and displacement functions for bridge and vehicle are established, respectively. Secondly, the undermined coefficient matrices for wheels, vehicles, intermediate support, left-end support and right-end support are derived. Then, the numerical assembly technique for conventional finite element method is adopted to construct the overall matrix of coefficients for whole system. Finally, natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are determined based on iterative method and overall matrix solution. Numerical simulation is presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results reveal that the solutions of present method are exact ones. Natural frequencies and associate modal shapes of continuous bridge under different conditions of vehicles are investigated. The influences of vehicle parameters on natural frequencies are also demonstrated.
The continuous sliding mode controller with disturbance observer for the tracking control of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) is presented. In spite of the robust performance of variable structure control, there exists an undesirable chattering problem, which may be very harmful in some cases. To alleviate the problem, continuous sliding mode controller with continuous saturation function is proposed and also the prescribed performance can be obtained by efficient compensation of disturbance. Experimental results using 7.5 kW, 4000 rpm motor which is controlled by TMS320C30 DSP, are shown to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed algorithm.
In this study, the researchers compared the S-wave velocity structures obtained by two kinds of dispersion curves: phase and group dispersions from a tidal flat located in the SW coast of the Korean peninsula. The ${\tau}-p$ stacking method was used for the phase velocity and two different methods (multiple filtering technique: MFT and continuous wavelet transform: CWT) for the phase velocity. It was difficult to separate higher modes from the fundamental mode phase velocities using the ${\tau}-p$ method, whereas the separation of different modes of group velocity were easily achieved by both MFT and CWT. Of the two methods, CWT was found to be more efficient than MFT. The spatial resolutions for the inversion results of the fundamental mode for both phase and group velocities were good for only a very shallow depth of ${\sim}1.5m$. On the other hand, the spatial resolutions were good up to ${\sim}4m$ when both the fundamental and the 1st higher mode poop velocities obtained by CWT were used for S-wave inversion. This implies that the 1st higher mode Rayleigh waves contain more information on the S-wave velocity in deeper subsurface. The researchers applied the CWT method to obtain the fundamental and the 1st higher mode poop velocities of the S-wave velocity structure of a tidal flat located in SW coast of the Korean peninsula. Thea the S-wave velocity structures were compared with the borehole description of the study area.

This study was performed to evaluate the effects of air flow rate and aeration mode on the treatment of bioventing for diesel-contaminated soil. Initial concentrations of diesel-contaminated soils were about 2,500 and 9,000mg/kg. Air flow rates were 30, 60, and 100mL/min, and air was injected in the continuous and the intermittent modes. TPH removal efficiency of intermittent aeration mode was higher than that of continuous aeration mode. Greater air flow rate than the value of guidance book was needed for bioventing.

The presence of a damage, such as a crack, in a structure increases the flexibility and damping in the structure. Most of methods to detect damage or damage location uses stiffness matrix of the structural system. The modification of stiffness matrix, however, has complicated procedures to identify structural. system in the basis of finite element model and has too many degree of freedom to calculate. Identification of changes of flexibility of structure can offer damage information immediately and simple procedure can employ real time continuous monitoring system. To identify changes of the flexibility, vibration mode shapes and natural frequencies are usually used. In this paper, a procedure for damage location in continuous girder bridges using vibration data is described. The effectiveness and sensitivity of the presented method to measurement errors in mode shapes and natural frequencies are investigated using analytical results from finite element models. It is shown that the errors in the first mode shape and first natural frequency demonstrate much larger influence than those in the higher mode shapes and modal frequencies.
The pressure field for the Pekeris model which is consisted of a surface layer of fresh water overlying a thick (essentially semi-infinite) bottom layer of coarse sand is investigated experimentally in a anechoic tank scaled down 1/1,000. The water depth and frequency have been controlled so that the continuous mode integrand has not a resonance close to cut-off, and the experimental results relatively well agree with the theory which is represented as the sum of the discrete modes over a range about 10 times the water depth.
