  • Uncertainty of result of context awareness always exists in any context-awareness computing. This falling-off in accuracy of context awareness result is mostly caused by the imperfectness and incompleteness of sensed data, because of this reasons, we must improve the accuracy of context awareness. In this article, we propose a novel approach to model the uncertain context by using ontology and context reasoning method based on Bayesian Network. Our context aware processing is divided into two parts; context modeling and context reasoning. The context modeling is based on ontology for facilitating knowledge reuse and sharing. The ontology facilitates the share and reuse of information over similar domains of not only the logical knowledge but also the uncertain knowledge. Also the ontology can be used to structure learning for Bayesian network. The context reasoning is based on Bayesian Networks for probabilistic inference to solve the uncertain reasoning in context-aware processing problem in a flexible and adaptive situation.

  • Context-Awareness system provides an appropriate service to user by recognizing situation from surrounding environment. There are many successful studies on this framework, but still has some limitations. In this paper, we are describing a context-awareness middleware that can enhance the limitation of the previous approaches. We first defined a new concept of context-awareness environment as a social intelligence. This concept implies that intelligent objects can make relationships, can aware of situation from surrounding environment, and can collaborate to accomplish a given task. The significance of the study is as follows. First, the system is capable of multi context-awareness since it is designed with a structure that supports multiple lines of reasoning. Second, the system is capable of context planning by adapting AI planning mechanism. Third, the system is capable of making the intelligent objects as a group for collaboration, and provides adaptive service to user. We have developed a prototype of the system and tested with a virtual scenario.

  • Context awareness technologies are based on efficient sharing of environment information of ubiquitous sensors in everyday life, and users require this awareness technologies to get quality of services. However, the application has been restricted due to its varieties of sensors and many different methods of communications. Therefore, IEEE 1451 standard has been published to interface between sensors and network layer. But it does not connect to a middleware because IEEE 1451 is for transducer standards. This paper presents a transducer and application interface protocol which connect to the context-aware middleware by defining a protocol to obtain context information using XML. We have implemented a bridge health monitoring system and railroad monitoring system in which different sensors and users' application are used to prove the efficacy of proposed interface protocols.

  • Current context-aware applications In ubiquitous computing environments make the assumption that the context they are dealing with is correct. However, in reality, both sensed and interpreted context informations are often uncertain or imperfect. In this paper, we propose a probability extension model to ontology-based model for rep resenting uncertain contexts and use Bayesian networks to resolve about uncertainty of context informations. The proposed model can support the development and operation of various context-aware services, which are required in the ubiquitous computing environment.

  • W These days, Ubiquitous is coming a more popular tool in mass communications and in advanced countries ubiquitous computing is commercialized. In Korea, we have studied the business models of the ubiquitous computing generation as well. Ubiquitous computing is the environment in which humans and computers coexist and properly work together. I would like to present a service infrastructure for a more efficient context-awareness than computing home networking system in this monograph. In the mean time, they have focused the context-awareness system on identifying users in the designated space and recognition. But I would like to focus on the middleware system structure for more efficient recognition.

  • The provision of personalized user interfaces for mobile devices is expected to be used for different devices with a wide variety of capabilities and interaction modalities. In this paper, we implemented a multimodal context-aware middleware incorporating XML-based languages such as XHTML, VoiceXML. SCXML uses parallel states to invoke both XHTML and VoiceXML contents as well as to gather composite multimodal inputs or synchronize inter-modalities through man-machine I/Os. We developed home networking service named "HomeN" based on our middleware framework. It demonstrates that users could maintain multimodal scenarios in a clear, concise and consistent manner under various user's interactions.

  • Context-aware technologies have become the one of core technologies for intelligent urban geospatial services in ubiquitous computing environment. To provide context-aware intelligent services, various technologies including for context-aware modelling, context-aware sensing and context-aware service middleware are required. Among them, especially, ontologies are very useful for modelling, interpreting and reasoning context informations across various domains. In this research, the recent trends of context-awareness technologies and ontologies are reviewed to build a conceptual architecture for intelligent urban geospatial services. Considering it, the strategies of intelligent urban geospatial services are proposed.

  • W3C announced a standard software architecture for multimodal context-aware middleware that emphasizes modularity and separates structure, contents, and presentation. We implemented a distributed multimodal interface system followed the W3C architecture, based on SCXML. SCXML uses parallel states to invoke both XHTML and VoiceXML contents as well as to gather composite or sequential multimodal inputs through man-machine interactions. We also hire Delivery Context Interface(DCI) module and an external service bundle enabling middleware to support context-awareness services for real world environments. The provision of personalized user interfaces for mobile devices is expected to be used for different devices with a wide variety of capabilities and interaction modalities. We demonstrated the implemented middleware could maintain multimodal scenarios in a clear, concise and consistent manner by some experiments.

  • Ubiquitous services are high duality and differentiated services which are provided for users by recognizing the context of users and environmental conditions actively. In this case, context-aware middleware is one of the most important technologies required to implement the ubiquitous services. In this paper, we proposed a method for providing ubiquitous services in a specific user space effectively. That is, the design and implementation of intelligent home service middleware based on context awareness is discussed here. Context information from various sensors is gathered, and suitable services are inferred and provided to users by the middleware system.
