  • There are innumerable studies on technology adoption and usage continuance; most examine cognitive factors while affective factors or the feelings of users are left relatively unexplored. Although attitude and user satisfaction are factors commonly considered in Information Systems(IS) research, they represent only some aspects of feelings. In contrast, researchers in diverse fields have begun to note the importance of feelings in understanding and predicting human behavior. Feelings are anticipated to be essential particularly in the context of modern applications, such as mobile internet(M-internet) services, where users are not simply technology users but also service consumers. Drawing on the support of consumer research, social psychology and computer science, this study proposes a balanced cognition-affect model of IS continuance. Prior works in relation to IS research have already considered the emotional factors. The common factors are enjoyment, anxiety, affect and satisfaction. The main difference in our study is that the factors that we used are the primary dimensions of affect according to Circumplex Model of Affect. The horizontal axis of the model represents the pleasure dimension and the vertical represents the arousal dimension. Other emotional factors such as enjoyment and anxiety can be viewed as a combination of these two dimensions, and they can be placed in the vector space formed by these two primary dimensions. Affect has been defined as the enjoyment a person derives from using computers. Satisfaction has different conceptualizations. It has been conceptualized as judgment based on the expectation disconfirmation theory. Thus, while prior works considered the direct and indirect effects of "feeling-related constructs"(enjoyment and anxiety) on usage behavior, our study proposes effects of "feeling-based constructs"(pleasure and arousal). The balanced cognition-affect model is tested in a survey of, M-internet service users. The results establish the validity of the model.

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain basic data for constructing a modeling practice program integrated with meta-modeling knowledge by analyzing the cognition level for each meta-modeling knowledge components through modeling practice in the context of the chemistry discipline content. A chemistry teacher conducted inquiry-based modeling practice including anomalous phenomena for 16 students in the second year of a science gifted school, and in order to analyze the cognition level for each of the three meta-modeling knowledge components such as model variability, model multiplicity, and modeling process, the inquiry notes recorded by the students and observation note recorded by the researcher were used for analysis. The recognition level was classified from 0 to 3 levels. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the cognition level of the modeling process was the highest and the cognition level of the multiplicity of the model was the lowest. The cause of the low recognitive level of model variability is closely related to students' perception of conceptual models as objective facts. The cause of the low cognitive level of model multiplicity has to do with the belief that there can only be one correct model for a given phenomenon. Students elaborated conceptual models using symbolic models such as chemical symbols, but lacked recognition of the importance of data interpretation affecting the entire modeling process. It is necessary to introduce preliminary activities that can explicitly guide the nature of the model, and guide the importance of data interpretation through specific examples. Training to consider and verify the acceptability of the proposed model from a different point of view than mine should be done through a modeling practice program.

  • Physical Surroundings have been identified by a number of researchers as a powerful tool that can manipulate people's mood and cognition. A number of marketing practitioners have accepted this notion, given that physical surroundings are increasingly used as atmospheric stimuli in various retail environment as well as in restaurant. Yet there have not been practical reviews on consumer responses in restaurant setting/environment. By means of a literature review, this study examines how physical surroundings in restaurant settings function on displaying dinning atmosphere. It includes the conceptual definition and classifications of physical surroundings, effect of physical surroundings on customers' internal responses and behaviors, and testable research propositions and directions for future researches. This study is expected to make a substantial contribution to the understanding of restaurant manager and dinning atmosphere displayer about function of physical surroundings in dinning context.

  • Today the Seoul metro has become the most important public transportation since opening in 1974. However, planning and design of stations, transfer systems and facilities are discorded by different companies and subway lines. Therefore, there is lack of objective design guidelines to secure legibility and safety in subway space. In this context, we aim to investigate the objective design and planing guidelines in terms of people's cognition and space use pattern. Space syntax method which enables scientific analysis is utilized to examine spatial layout considering passenger's spatial behavior. The research resulted in providing objective design and planning standards.

  • Although several theories and models have been proposed to explain the effects of cultural differences in team decision making, many aspects of team decision-making in multi-cultural contexts such as team performance, team communication, and team cognition still remain unclear. In particular, little attention has paid to the empirical studies on team processes multi-cultural team members use to interact with each other to accomplish the task in different task environments. To investigate the effects of culture and task characteristics on team decision making behavior in multi-cultural contexts, this study compared culturally homogenous and heterogeneous groups in the context of logistics decision making. Results of the study showed that cultural difference and task complexity may affect team performance as well as team interaction process to varying degree.

  • Sexual dimorphism in intelligence suggests that this phenotype is a sexually selected trait. This view is supported by an overrepresentation (compared to the autosomal genome) of genes affecting cognition on the X chromosome. The aim of this study is to test the hypothesis that sexual selection can explain sex and country-level differences in performance on tests of fluid intelligence. Nationally representative samples from N = 44 countries were obtained from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) Creative Problem Solving (CPS), which evaluates the core of intelligence, that is novel problem solving ability. Sexual selection has the double effect of increasing the prevalence of a favored phenotype and reducing genetic variation in sexually selected traits. Matching these predictions from evolutionary theory, the average country fluid intelligence is positively correlated to sexual dimorphism after partialling out per capita GDP and the latter in turn is inversely correlated to variance in intelligence scores within populations. Males have a higher variance than females but there is a negative correlation between male-female difference in variance and sexual dimorphism in intelligence, suggesting that selection reduces variance more in the selected sex. Average country male height is negatively correlated to sexual dimorphism in intelligence, a fact that supports the notion of a trade-off between physical and intellectual competition in the context of access to females. The results of this study, if replicated, imply that genome-wide association studies of cognition may benefit from a focus on sex chromosomes, which so far have been neglected. Another implication of this study is that intelligence has continued to evolve after different human populations migrated out of Africa and possibly up to the 19th century, as suggested by the substantial variability in sex differences even between neighbouring countries.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the method to enhance user cognition for "STM information(Short-term Memorable Information)" that is relatively accessible to information in a short period of time in information design types. What stands out from this study is the design attributes and expression method of information in a broad perspective. By 4 visualization attributes of function variable; 'Operations', 'Events', 'Methods' and 'Use cases', STM information should be satisfied by the attribute of 'Understandable' and 'Accessibility' from the point of view of visual representation and by the attribute of 'Errorless' and 'Timeliness' from the point of view of user operation. As the expression method of each perspectives, I suggested "Attribution theory", "Cognitive model", "Maximization of Proactivity", "Minimization of surplus information" and "Using dual-code" in the point of view of visual representation, and "Context effect", "Using memory code" and "Two methods of information scanning" in the point of view of user operation. I assured that above-mentioned methods are efficient and cognitive pattern of user for STM information is found out by survey and interview.

  • Enactivism is the most influential and groundbreaking approach among the various theories of embodied cognition. Despite of it's impact and relatively long history, however, Enactivism is still considered as a new and unfamiliar theory in the Korean academic society. Even though this might be partly due to the genuine depth and dramatic approach of Enactivism, it is also due to the disagreement of Korean translation of Enactivism. This paper reviews the philosophical and theoretical implications of Enactivism in the context of history and conceptual terrain, and discusses how the various tranlated Korean words of 'Enaction' - '발제(發製)' '구성(構成)', or '행위화(行爲化)'- embraced and interpreted the essence of philosophy and concept of 'Enaction' and 'Enactivism'. Furthermore, we offer several alternatives Korean translations of 'Enaction': '실행(實行)', 수행(遂行/修行), or 작동(作動). Through this discussion, we hope to provide an opportunity for Korean researchers and philosophers to direct their attention to Enactivism properly and to make a common ground for further development of Enactivism in Korea.

  • Research on gait recognition and its use is actively underway. This study suggests a method to recognize abnormal gaits of pedestrians. The purposes of the existing research to recognize normal steps are to measure physical activities and to validate people by their walks, but the purpose to recognize abnormal steps in this study is to insure the safe life of pedestrians. There are situations in which pedestrians are unaware of themselves vulnerable and can not ask for help. The purpose of this research is that even if pedestrians are unaware of themselves and there are no spontaneous requests for helps, it is intended for them to escape from dangers and difficulties by adopting the recent IOT technology. Hence, this study analyzes normal pace of pedestrians using the triaxial acceleration sensors, and takes ranges of their normal walking. And then, the steps of pedestrians are measured using the triaxial acceleration sensors, contrasted with their normal walking ranges, and determine whether their steps are normal or not. When it is out of the state for normal paces, a method to determine as abnormal paces is suggested.
