A Collaborative Video Annotation and Browsing System using Linked Data (링크드 데이터를 이용한 협업적 비디오 어노테이션 및 브라우징 시스템)

  • Previously common users just want to watch the video contents without any specific requirements or purposes. However, in today's life while watching video user attempts to know and discover more about things that appear on the video. Therefore, the requirements for finding multimedia or browsing information of objects that users want, are spreading with the increasing use of multimedia such as videos which are not only available on the internet-capable devices such as computers but also on smart TV and smart phone. In order to meet the users. requirements, labor-intensive annotation of objects in video contents is inevitable. For this reason, many researchers have actively studied about methods of annotating the object that appear on the video. In keyword-based annotation related information of the object that appeared on the video content is immediately added and annotation data including all related information about the object must be individually managed. Users will have to directly input all related information to the object. Consequently, when a user browses for information that related to the object, user can only find and get limited resources that solely exists in annotated data. Also, in order to place annotation for objects user's huge workload is required. To cope with reducing user's workload and to minimize the work involved in annotation, in existing object-based annotation automatic annotation is being attempted using computer vision techniques like object detection, recognition and tracking. By using such computer vision techniques a wide variety of objects that appears on the video content must be all detected and recognized. But until now it is still a problem facing some difficulties which have to deal with automated annotation. To overcome these difficulties, we propose a system which consists of two modules. The first module is the annotation module that enables many annotators to collaboratively annotate the objects in the video content in order to access the semantic data using Linked Data. Annotation data managed by annotation server is represented using ontology so that the information can easily be shared and extended. Since annotation data does not include all the relevant information of the object, existing objects in Linked Data and objects that appear in the video content simply connect with each other to get all the related information of the object. In other words, annotation data which contains only URI and metadata like position, time and size are stored on the annotation sever. So when user needs other related information about the object, all of that information is retrieved from Linked Data through its relevant URI. The second module enables viewers to browse interesting information about the object using annotation data which is collaboratively generated by many users while watching video. With this system, through simple user interaction the query is automatically generated and all the related information is retrieved from Linked Data and finally all the additional information of the object is offered to the user. With this study, in the future of Semantic Web environment our proposed system is expected to establish a better video content service environment by offering users relevant information about the objects that appear on the screen of any internet-capable devices such as PC, smart TV or smart phone.

  • User adaptive reception of broadcast programs includes the functionality such as the user adaptive filtering and browsing functionality. The user adaptive filtering means that the user can limit the list of programs to include only his/her favorite programs among hundreds of available programs. The user adaptive browsing means that the user can view a short summary of his/her selection in the way that he/she prefers. When the receiving system include the random access storage device, the automatic recording functionality of users favorite programs can be included. The user adaptive reception requires support from various meta-data such as user preference data and content description data. TV Anytime forum is a standardization effort to enable user adaptive TV reception, which means that the user can watch what s/he wants when s/he want in the way s/he wants. MPEG-7 includes not only the content description for broadcast applications but also other content descriptions such as structure information. This paper addresses the relationship between MPEG-7 and TV Anytime and investigates how MPEG-7 should be designed and be used to satisfy the requirements of the user adaptive reception of broadcast program.

  • 모바일 폰은 최근 관심의 대상이 되고 있는 사용자 제작 컨텐츠 (User-Created Content: UCC)의 생산과 공유를 위한 중요한 수단이다. 또한 HSDPA나 4G와 같은 차세대 이동통신 기술은Flickr나 YouTube 등의 웹 사이트에서 제공되고 있는 UCC 서비스가 모바일 폰을 통해서도 더욱 활발히 이용될 수 있는 가능성을 제시하고 있다. 그러나 모바일 폰이 가지고 있는 작은 화면 크기와 불편한 입력 장치라는 기본적인 한계는 모바일 UCC 서비스의 성공에 큰 장애 요인으로 작용할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 정보 구조 (Information Structure) 및 정보 시각화 (Information Visualization)와 관련된 기존 이론 및 연구들을 기반으로 4가지 다른 모바일 폰 인터페이스들을 개발하고, 사용자들의 모바일 폰을 통한 탐색적 UCC 서비스 사용을 지원하는데 어떠한 인터페이스가 더 적합한지 실험 방법론을 통해 검증하는 것을 기본 목적으로 한다. 본 연구를 위하여 개발된 인터페이스들은 컨텐츠 구조의 관점에서 폴더 기반 계층 구조 (Folder-Based Hierarchical Structure)이나 태그 기반 네트워크 구조 (Tag-Based Network Structure)를 가지고 있으며, 컨텐츠 시각화의 관점에서는 고정 버튼 (Fixed Buttons)이나 멀티 디스플레이 버튼 (Multi-Display Buttons)를 가지고 있다. 66명의 실험 참가자들을 대상으로 한 실험 결과, 사용자들은 탐험 지향적 탐색 과업 (Exploratory Browsing)에서 태그 기반 네트워크 구조 또는 멀티 디스플레이 버튼이 제공된 모바일 인터페이스에 대하여 상대적으로 더 높은 유용성, 즐거움, 만족도, 향후 사용의도 등을 나타내었다.

The Personal Information Management Practices of the Graduates of the Department of Information Studies at Kuwait University

  • This study examined activities involving the finding, organizing, managing, and re-finding of information by knowledge workers in Kuwait. This research also conducted a review of the tools needed for effective personal information management (PIM) and assessed perceptions about improving PIM through Internet use. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted among 26 graduates of the Department of Information Studies at Kuwait University. These participants are currently employed in different sectors engaged in a variety of information-related activities. This study's findings indicated that participants gathered different types of information from a variety of sources. This information was stored using several devices and services, including desktop computers, shared drives, clouds, bookmarked websites, e-mail correspondence, and favorites lists. Participants organized information in personal folders according to categories such as subject/topic, time, project, document type, and geographical region. Preferred methods for information re-finding included searching by keyword and browsing through folders. Interviewees reported problems of information overload, fragmentation, and anxiety. Most were active in social media via mobile device, while some of them used Siri or Ask Google to retrieve information. Tools used for PIM included calendars, tasks, schedules, e-mail management tools, clouds, and social networking tools. Participants reported that the Internet helped with personal information management practices, but that some privacy issues arose in this context.

Morphological Hand-Gesture Algorithm for Video Content Navigation (비디오 컨텐츠 검색을 위한 형태론적 손짓 인식 알고리즘)

  • The most important issues in gesture recognition are the simplification of algorithm and the reduction of processing time. The mathematical morphology based on geometrical set theory is best used to perform the real-time processing. A key idea of the algorithm proposed in this paper is to apply morphological shape decomposition. The primitive elements extracted from a hand gesture have very important information including the directivity of the hand gestures. Based on this algorithm, we proposed the morphological hand-gesture recognition algorithm using feature vectors extracted from lines connecting the center points of a main-primitive element and sub-primitive elements. Through the experiments, we applied to the video contents browsing system with natural interactions and demonstrated the efficiency of this algorithm.

  • The personal video recorder is a consumer electronics device that records television shows to a hard disk in digital format. In this paper, we propose an implementation method of personal video recorder for digital TV. The proposed personal video recorder includes cpu and system control modules, graphics and display module, audio DSP module, digital I/O module, NIM module, graphic software library, and embedded software modules for providing a lot of PVR functions such as live or reserved recordings, browsing of recorded content list, trick play and time shifting. Especially, combining trick play with time shifting makes much more convenient functions such as pausing live TV, instant replay of interesting scenes, and skipping advertising.

In this paper, we propose an implementation method of personal digital recorder for HDTV. The proposed personal recorder includes CPU and system control modules, graphics and display module, audio DSP module, digital I/O module, NIM module, graphic software library, and embedded software modules for providing a lot of personal digital recorder functions such as live or reserved recordings, browsing of recorder content list, trick lay and time shifting.   • 네트워크상에서 멀티미디어 컨텐츠(디지털 아이템)를 다양한 전송 매체(인터넷, 방송 무선전화 등)를 통해 전달하고, 서로 다른 기능의 단말기(PDA, PC, TV, Phone 등)를 통해 디지털 아이템을 소비하는데 있어 상호호환성(Interoperability)을 제공하기 위해 디지털 아이템의 생성, 전달, 소비 단계에 이르기까지 디지털 아이템의 규격을 제정하고자 MPEG-21(멀티미디어 프레임워크)이라는 이름의 국제 표준화 작업이 진행 중이다[1]. 본 논문에서는 MPEG-21의 디지털 아이템 선언 언어인 DIDL(Digital Item Declaration Language)을 이용하여 컨텍스트 디지털 아이템(XDI: conteXt Digital Item)을 XML 문서형태로 생성하고, 이를 컨텐츠 디지털 아이템(CDI: Content Digital Item)의 종류(영화, 음악, 도서, 게임 등)에 구애받지 않고 웹 브라우저를 통해 소비할 수 있는 디지털 아이템 브라우저를 구현하였다. 디지털 아이템의 다양한 형태에 적절히 대응하기 위해 XSLT(XML Stylesheet Language Transform)를 이용하여 디지털 아이템 정보를 표현하고 웹 브라우저를 통해 소비자의 환경에 적합한 디지털 아이템을 소비 및 이용할 수 있는 어플리케이션을 제공하는 환경에 대한 연구 결과를 제시한다.

  • 디지털 콘텐츠의 영역을 확장하여 발달된 기술을 반영한 다양한 디지털 콘텐츠 기술이 발달하고 있다. 가상현실, 증강현실, 컴퓨터그래픽, 홀로그램, 오감 인터랙션, 지능형 스마트 미디어 유통기술이 그것인데 이 중 지능형 스마트 미디어 유통기술이란 IoT, 클라우드, 빅데이터 기반 개인 맞춤형 콘텐츠 유통기술, 영상정보를 검색하여 방송, 모바일 등 연관콘텐츠를 제공하는 유통기술(Visual Browsing) 등을 말한다. 이 논문에서는 디지털 콘텐츠 중 지능형 스마트 미디어 유통기술을 안전하게 개발하고 발전시키기 위하여 블록체인 방법을 활용한 스마트 미디어 유통기술에 대하여 연구하였다. 블록체인 기반 기술을 통하여 스마트 미디어 유통 시 해킹으로부터 데이터 원본 보호의 안전함을 제공하고 유통 시 필요한 저작권관리 및 유통 기록을 위 변조 없이 관리할 수 있다.

  • Internet has been becoming widely popular and making rapid progress and network technologies is showing extension in data transmission speeds. Rapid and convenient multimedia services supplied with high quality and high speed are being needed, This paper treats of the design and implement method of clip-based video retrieval system on the world-wide-web environments. The implemented system consists of the content-based indexing system supporting convenient services for video contents providers and the web-based retrieval system in order to make it easy and various information retrieval for users on the world-wide-web. Three important methods were used in the content-based indexing system. Key frame extracting method by dividing video data, clip file creation method by clustering related information and video database build method by using clip unit, In web-based retrieval system, retrieval method by using a key word, two dimension browsing method of key frame and real-time display method of the clip were used. As a result. the proposed methodologies showed a usefulness of video content providing. and provided an easy method for searching intented video content.
