  • Anchovy soy sauce was fermented at ambient temperature in 20 L new Onggi, used Onggi, stainless steel, and plastic containers, and sauce quality was analyzed. Microporous insulated Onggi containers were found to promote fermentative microbial growth, thus creating desirable conditions for the preparation of good-quality anchovy soy sauce. The use of used Onggi containers yielded an anchovy soy sauce with high contents of total nitrogen and free amino acids, which afforded good sensory qualities with respect to odor, taste, and overall acceptability.

  • Automated Container Terminals have been being developed over the world for many recent years and more and more countries get interested in it because the amount of containers exported or imported is steeply increasing. Existed Container Terminals were not designed to control this kind of heavily many containers. They would face many structural problems soon or later, although they have managed to do well until now. One of the most important things in developing Automated Container Terminal is to develop the equipment able to transfer the awfully many containers. Those are maybe Automated Transfer Cranes, Automated Guided Vehicles, and Automated Quay-Side Cranes. The word "Automated" means the equipment is operated without drivers and those equipments are able to work without taking any break. Through the researches on the existed transfer cranes, authors decided that the structure of existed transfer cranes is not proper to swift and fast transfer and it′s not impossible to handle so many containers in limited time. Therefore authors have been studying on the proper structure of the Automated Container Crane for past several years and a new type of transfer crane has been developed. Design concepts and control methods of a new crane will be introduced in this paper.

  • We present an optimization model for how to assign the freight trains to transshipment tracks and allocate the containers to the freight trains in a rail container terminal. We formulate this problem as a multi-criteria integer programming to minimize the makespan of job schedule and simultaneously to maximize the loading throughput, i.e. the number of containers to be disposed per day. We also apply our model to the instance obtained from the real-world data of the Uiwang Inner Container Depot. From the experiments, we can see an improvement of approximately 6% in makespan, which means that our model can contribute to the improvement of the disposal capacity of containers without additional expansion of facilities.

  • The compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers for packaging the agricultural products rapidly decreases because of various environmental conditions during distribution of unitized products. Among various environmental conditions, the main factors affecting the compression strength of corrugated fiberboard are absorption of moisture, long-term accumulative load, and fatigue caused by shock and vibration. An estimated rate of damage for fruit during distribution is about 30~40% owing to the shock and vibration. This study was carried out to characterize the durability of corrugated fiberboard containers for packaging the fruits and vegetables under simulated transportation environment. After the packaging freight was vibrated at various experimental conditions, the compression test for the packaging was performed. The compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers decreased with loading weight and vibration time. The multiple nonlinear regression equation ($R^2$ = 0.9198) for predicting the decreasing rate of compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers were developed using four independent variables such as input acceleration level, input frequency, loading weight and vibration time.

  • In order to design the high strength corrugated fiberboard containers for agricultural products that can be used for the cold chain system, a large number of individual boxes were placed in various humidity environments at two different temperature of 5 and $20^{\circ}C$. The results indicated that temperature changes do not effect on physical strength of corrugated fiberboard containers as much as humidity changes did. The main conclusion from this study was that compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers dropped significantly at high humidity condition, but the rates varied depending on the number of walls, temperature, and perimeter of containers. The packaging designer must consider the corrugated fiberboard boxes are also greatly affected by dimensional variations such as the length versus width ratio. Based on this study, water-resistant board would not be necessary if the ambient relative humidity does not reach to a critical point, 85 percent in the cold chain system. However, the designer must count for the unexpected fluctuation of rotative humidity resulting in severe loss of the compression strength of corrugated fiberboard container.

  • The aim of our study was to investigate the interactive effects of container size and nutrient supply on plant growth, chlorophyll synthesis, transpiration, $CO_2$ assimilation, water use efficiency (WUE), and nutrient uptake of vinca plant (Catharanthus roseus). A complete experiment utilizing four concentrations of fertilizer and three volumes of containers was conducted. As the container size was increased, the plant height, leaf area, and dry weight of vinca significantly increased regardless of fertilizer level. The leaf area and dry weight of vinca were highly sensitive to the container size. However, the chlorophyll contents of vinca 20 days after the transplant significantly increased with decreasing container sizes and increasing fertilizer concentrations. Significant differences in transpiration and $CO_2$ assimilation occurred with the use of differentfertilizer solutions, but the highest values for transpiration and $CO_2$ assimilation were in plants grown in the 15 cm-diameter containers. The highest water use efficiency was observed in the plants grown in 10 cm-containers with 4 dS/m of fertilizer, and there were no significant differences in WUE values among container sizes with fertilizer concentrations of 0, 1, or 2 dS/m. No significant difference in nutrient uptake was observed among the fertilizer levels or among the container sizes. However, at a fertilizer concentration of 4 dS/m, the uptake of several nutrients, including N, P, K, Ca, Mg, B and Fe, was higher in small containers than in larger ones.

  • Due to limitation of resources and increasing concerns about environment, reverse logistics has received growing attention in recent years. In this paper, we propose three types of reverse logistics networks based on reuse of returnable containers, materials recycling process and remanufacturing for parts reuse. First, the sender in the re-usable item network supplies containers for the recipient and orders either new containers from external supplier or returnable containers cleaned from the container depot. Second, the recycling center in the proposed recycling network collects either end of life products from customer or faulty goods from manufacturer, collected products are dismantled into materials and materials go into recycling process. Finally, the manufacturer in the proposed remanufacturing network has two alternatives for supplying parts: either ordering the required parts to external supplier or overhauling disassembled parts and bringing them back 'as new' conditions. In this product recovery environment, we build optimal order quantity models to minimize the total logistics costs related to reverse logistics network. The validity of the proposed model is investigated through comprehensive computational experiments.

  • Container technologies are widely used in infrastructures to deploy and manage applications in cloud computing environment. As containers are light-weight software, the cluster of cloud applications can easily scale up or down to provide Internet-based services. Container-based applications can well deal with fluctuate workloads by dynamically adjusting physical resources. Current works of scheduling applications often construct applications' performance models with collected historical training data, but these works with static models cannot self-adjust physical resources to meet the dynamic requirements of cloud computing. Thus, we propose a self-adaptive automatic container scheduling framework AutoScale for cloud applications, which uses a feedback-based approach to adjust physical resources by extending, contracting and migrating containers. First, a queue-based performance model for cloud applications is proposed to correlate performance and workloads. Second, a fuzzy Kalman filter is used to adjust the performance model's parameters to accurately predict applications' response time. Third, extension, contraction and migration strategies based on predicted response time are designed to schedule containers at runtime. Furthermore, we have implemented a framework AutoScale with container scheduling strategies. By comparing with current approaches in an experiment environment deployed with typical applications, we observe that AutoScale has advantages in predicting response time, and scheduling containers to guarantee that response time keeps stable in fluctuant workloads.

  • This study proposes a plan to construct an integrated platform that reduces manufacturing costs and efficiently produce by integrating the systems of main producers, production subcontractors, and raw material subcontractors for the production of food packaging containers. The production plan of food packaging containers and raw materials is established in real time between the main producers, production subcontractors, and raw material subcontractors in consideration of the demand characteristics of each product. It establishes basic information that all processes from the production planning stage to the forwarding stage of the product are linked to each other. The progress of each producer of interlinked processes is shared in real-time to improve productivity and quality of food packaging containers and raw materials and reduce manufacturing costs. By monitoring the system of the main producer and the production subcontractor in real time, the production of food packaging containers is performed in a timely manner, thereby improving productivity. The application of the plan-do-check-action (PDCA) process, which includes planning, execution, evaluation and improvement in the production operation processes of the main producer, production subcontractor and raw material subcontractor, enables improved production compliance rate. The contents of the main producers, production subcontractors, and raw material subcontractors are managed in real time, then a converged production management system is established through the platform proposed in this study to ensure timely supply and demand of raw materials without delay in ordering.
