High-density UMo/Zr monolithic nuclear fuel plates have a promising application prospect in high flux research and test reactors. The solid state welding method called co-rolling is used for their fabrication. Hot co-rolling simulations for the composite blanks of UMo/Zr monolithic nuclear fuel plates are performed. The effects of coupon sizes and mechanical property parameters on the contact pressures between the to-be-bonded surfaces are investigated and analyzed. The numerical simulation results indicate that 1) the maximum contact pressures between the fuel coupon and the Zircaloy cover exist near the central line along the plate length direction; as a whole the contact pressures decrease toward the edges in the plate width direction; and lower contact pressures appear at a large zone near the coupon corner, where de-bonding is easy to take place in the in-pile irradiation environments; 2) the maximum contact pressures between the fuel coupon and the Zircaloy parts increase with the initial coupon thickness; after reaching a certain thickness value, the contact pressures hardly change, which was mainly induced by the complex deformation mechanism and special mechanical constitutive relation of fuel coupon; 3) softer fuel coupon will result in lower contact pressures and form interfaces being more out-of-flatness.

Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the actual state about ultrasonic cleaning of soft contact lenses in local optical shops and evaluate the removal effect of protein deposit on soft contact lenses with different lens containers by ultrasonic cleaner for eyeglasses. Methods: The actual state about ultrasonic cleaning of soft contact lenses was surveyed in total 75 local optical shops in Seoul, Korea. The cleaning efficacy of different lens containers was compared by measuring the protein remained on ocufilcon D contact lenses after washing by an ultrasonic cleaner for eyeglasses. The changes on surfaces and wetting angles of ocufilcon D contact lenses by repeat ultrasonication were further investigated. Results: The main purpose to use ultrasonic cleaners in local optical shops was rapid cleaning. The ultrasonic cleaning efficacy of ocufilcon D contact lenses with glass containers was little higher than it with plastic containers, but was not significantly different. The changes on surfaces and wetting angles of ocufilcon D contact lenses in a plastic lens container by repeat ultrasonication such as 30 and/or 60 times were shown. Conclusions: There was not significant difference in cleaning efficacy between glass and plastic lens containers. However, repeat cleaning with ultrasonic cleaner for eyeglasses would be carefully considered since some significant changes in the parameters of lens surface and wetting angles were detected by repeat ultrasonification even when lens containers were used for ocufilcon D contact lens during ultrasonictions.
The present study describes the process of producing low oxygen content alloy powder from Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V (AMS 4972) alloy scraps using hydrogenation-dehydrogenation (HDH) and deoxidation in solid state (DOSS) processes. Each prepared powder was deoxidized with Ca contact and non-contact method to compare the deoxidation capability. It is known that the non-contact deoxidation method, using Ca vapor above the melting temperature $T_m$ of Ca, has greater deoxidation capability. However, Oxygen contents in Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V powder after non-contact deoxidation method were higher than those after contact deoxidation method. Therefore, we investigate the effect of Al - the richest alloy element in theses Ti based metals - on the deoxidation processes.

The purpose of this paper is to develop the 2-Dim Lagrangian Hydrocode for the analysis of large deformations of solids with implementation of the contact algorithm. First, th e governing equations are discretized into a system of algebraic equations. For more accurate and robust contact force computation. the defense node contact algorithm was adopted and implemented. For the verification of the code developed, two cases are carried out; the Taylor-Impact test and two bodies impact. The von -Mises criterion is implemented into the code with the Shock equation of state. The simulation results show a good agreement compared with the published experimental data and results from the commercial code. It is necessary to implement several material models and failure models for applications to different impact and penetration problems.

Facilities of electric railway should be maintained only at night and it is necessary to maintain by human power because facilities are installed at a high place. This paper presents the development and application of a real-time data acquisition system for the characteristics measurement of overhead contact wires in electric railway. The system is designed to perform in the telemetry environments that developed to store data by wireless in a live wire state of 25 kV power source. The field test results show that the proposed technique and the developed system can be practically applied to measure characteristics of temperature, displacement, and strain on overhead contact lines.
This paper represents the development of an array-type flexible tactile sensor using PVDF(polyvinylidene fluoride) film and flexible circuitry. The tactile sensor which has $8{\times}8$ taxels is made by using PVDF film and FPC(flexible printed circuit) technique. Experimental results on static and dynamic properties are obtained by applying arbitrary forces and frequencies generated by the shaker. In the static characteristics, the threshold and the linearity of the sensor are investigated. Also dynamic response of the sensor subjected to the variable frequencies is examined. The signals of a contact force to the tactile sensor are sensed and processed in the DSP system in which the signals are digitalized and filtered. Finally, the signals are integrated for taking the force profile. The processed signals of the outputs of the sensor are visualized on a personal computer, the shape and force distribution of the contacted object are obtained using two and three-dimensional image in real time. The reasonable performance for the detection of contact state is verified through the experiment.

This paper proposes an ultrasonic measurement method for measurement of linear interfacial stiffness of contacting surface between two steel plates subjected to nominal compression pressures. Interfacial stiffness was evaluated by using shear waves reflected at contact interface of two identical solid plates. Three consecutive reflection waves from solid-solid surface are captured by pulse-echo method to evaluate the state of contact interface. A non-dimensional parameter defined as the ratio of their peak-to-peak amplitudes are formulated and used to calculate the quantitative stiffness of interface. Mathematical model for 1-D wave propagation across interfaces is developed to formulate the reflection and transmission waves across the interface and to determine the interfacial stiffness. Two identical plates are fabricated and assembled to form contacting surface and to measure interfacial stiffness at different states of contact pressure by means of bolt fastening. It is found from experiment that the amplitude of interfacial stiffness is dependent on the pressure and successfully determined by employing pulse-echo ultrasonic method without measuring through-transmission waves.
Two enhancements to a recently developed plastic-damage-contact model for concrete are presented. The model itself, which uses planes of degradation that can undergo damage and separation but that can regain contact according to a contact law, is described. The first enhancement is a new damage evolution function which provides a completely smooth transition from the undamaged to the damaged state and from pre-peak to post-peak regions. The second is an improved contact function that governs the potential degree of contact with increasing opening on a crack plane. The use of a damage evolution function with a pre-peak has implications for the consistent tangent matrix/stress recovery algorithm developed for the model implementation, and amendments to this algorithm to accommodate the new function are described. A series of unpublished experimental tests on notched specimens undertaken in Cardiff in the mid 1990s are then described. These include notched beam tests as well as prismatic and cylindrical torsion tests. The tests are then considered in three dimensional finite element analyses using the modified Craft model implemented in the finite element program LUSAS. Comparisons between experimental and numerical data show reasonable agreement except that the numerical simulations do not fully describe the latter stages of the softening responses for the torsion examples. Finally, it is concluded that the torsion tests described provide useful benchmark examples for the validation of three-dimensional numerical models for concrete.

In this paper, analysis of the effects for construction tolerances on the current collection performance of high speed catenary system. The height of the contact wire is the geometrical position of the cantilever directly affects the current collection performance. Contact force when the height of the contact wire exceeds the construction tolerance were analyzed. As a result, the maximum contact force was analyzed to more than 350[N] that are recommended by EN50119. And when the geometrical position of the cantilever to exceeds the construction tolerance, the analysis results of uplift at the mast support points, it becomes 127[mm] that are recommended by UIC 799. If the construction tolerances exceeds the reference value, the current collection performance is deteriorated. Therefore, catenary system require high precision construction. In the future, there is a need for continuing research on the tolerance of catenary system in the actual operating state.

For the time integration solution of the impulsive dynamic contact problem of high-speed rotating disks formulated by the finite element technique, the velocity and acceleration contact constraints as well as the displacement contact constraint are imposed for the numerical stability without spurious oscillations. The solution of the present technique is checked by the numerical simulation using the concentric high-speed rotating disks with the clearance and impulsive loading. It is shown that the almost steady state solution agrees with the corresponding analytical solution of the elasticity and that the differentiated constraints are crucial for the numerical stability of such high-speed contact problems of the disks under impulsive loading.
