  • To design the optimized low noise planetary gear sets, a program called pRMC(planetary run many cases) is developed. The pRMC is especially using a combination analysis method for all gear specifications and also able to analyze any type of planetary gear sets. The pRMC is composed of the 5 sections those are generate, setting, evaluate, combine and analysis. After calculating all candidate gear sets, the pRMC could show many results that represent the character of each gear set including the transmission error which is the main gear noise factor, the contact ratios, the bending stress and so on. By comparing the results objectively, user could predict and select the optimized gear set which has quiet noise level and desired durability. The planetary gear designed by pRMC could have reduced noise and vibration level from 5 to 10 dB than previous-designed one.

  • In the automation of rigid parts mating process with the intelligent robots, Peg-In-Hole is the most available task since inserting is some analytic and needs suitable range of forces that can be controlled by induatrial manipulators. In this Peg-In-Hole process, it is very important to identify the contact state between tow parts, peg and hole, to build the strategies for robot motion that leads to avoid the jamming condition occurs during insertion process. In this paper, we adpopted 3 parameters for identification, lFzl, lFxy/Fzl, and lMxy/Fxyl, derived from axes value of Whitney's jamming diagram. Also, we defined the fuzzy membership functions for these parameters and developed the identification algorithm based on fuzzy inference method of max-product. As an experimental result, we obtained about 96% of identification ratio that could be raised up to industrial requirements by further research.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the peak electromyographic activity(EMG) and time intervals in firing sequence of Anterior temporalis(TA) and Masseter(MM) on clenching, the number of tender points in the head and neck muscles, the occlusal contact state on clenching, and their relationship. 78 patients with Temporomandibular Disorders(TMDs) participated and were classified into articular or muscular group by clinical signs and symptoms. BioEMG$\textregistered$ of integrated masticatory function analyzer, Biopak$\textregistered$ system(Bioresearch Inc., USA), was used to measure EMG and related items, and T- Scan$\textregistered$(Tekscan, USA), computerized occlusal analyser, was used to record occlusal contact state on maximum voluntary clenching. EMG and occlusal contact were synchronously recorded and analysed with SAS Statistical program. The results of this study were as follows : 1. In total subjects, EMG of TA was lower than that of MM in articular group but in muscular group, vice versa, As a result, the ratio TA to MM was significantly different between the two groups. no significant differece. 3. The number and force of occlusal contact were more in articular group, but there was no significant difference in Total Left-Right statistics(TLR) between the two groups. 4. In unilaterally affected subjects for muscle function, no significant difference was observed between the affected side and the contralateral side in articular group, but in muscular group, the item of the number of tender points showed significant difference. However, for occlusal contact items, contact force in articular group shows significant difference between the two sides. 5. Rate of coincidence of the first firing side of TA with affected side or preferred chewing side was higher and not different between the two groups, but no significant correlation was showed between the first firing side and the first occlusal contact side.

  • The characteristics of geometric contact between the wheel and rail on the turnout must be precisely investigated to limit the speed of trains at a turnout. The characteristics of the contact have an effect on the derailment of trains at a turnout and maintenance of a turnout. In this paper, an analysis program for characterization of the contact on a turnout is first developed. With the developed program, the characteristics of geometric contact, including the contact during steady state running, were analyzed and discussed for improving the safety of trains.

  • The power relay can easily control high voltage and high current through metallic contacts. In addition, it has the advantage in reasonable price. So it has been used in many applications. But the power relay has a weak point by mechanical movements. These mechanical movements cause the bouncing phenomenon. Arc and bouncing phenomenon are the main causes of electric abrasion and material erosion. In this study, mechanical repetitive experiments and repetitive experiments in electrically connected state are conducted. Then these two experimental results in terms of bouncing phenomenon and changes in the contact surface are compared. In all number of repetitions, contacts in an electrically connected state cause smaller number of bounce. Also, It has lower contents of silver on eroded surface than the other. The experimental results would be helpful to the further study of contacts life span.

  • This research is the development of a distributed tactile sensor using PVDF film far the detection of the contact state. The prototype of the tactile sensor with 8$\times$8 taxels was fabricated using PVDF film and flexible circuitry. In the fabrication procedure, the electrode and the common electrode patterns are attached to the both side of the 28${\mu}m$ thickness PVDF film. The sensor is covered with polyester film for insulation. The signals of a contact pressure to the tactile sensor are sensed and processed in the DSP system in which the signals are digitalized and filtered. And the signals are integrated for taking the force profile. The processed signals of the output of the sensor are visualized to take the shape and force distribution of the contact object in personal computer. The usefulness of the sensor system is verified through the sensing examples.

  • The strong nonliner dynamic behavior of mechanical systems in the presence of clearances are studied. The nonlinearity is induced from the assumed symmetric piecewise-linear characteristics for stiffness and damping by the contact and uncontact. Based on Stoker's assertion concering the reasoning beyond the occurrence of subharmonics, the nonlinear differential equation is converted to four nonlinear algebraic equations form the boundary conditions at the contact points. For a single contact per half exciting period, under the assumption of symmetric response, the steady-state solutions obtained are in agreement with those of numerical integration. Also a nondimen-sionalized formulation is made for the purpose of parametric studies.

  • Axisymmetric and quasi-static finite element analysis of an inflated tire rotating with constant angular velocity and contact to road has been performed. Centrifugal force effect was added to load stiffness matrix and equation of effective material properties were calculated by the Halpin-Tsai formulation. In this report, radial truck/bus tire was analyzed. It was inflated and rotated at speeds up to 140 km/h. Then, contact problem was performed to calculate stress-strain field of tire wiht flat rigid road under the load due to the self-weight of a vehicle. Significant changes of stress-strain field of tire were observed in the finite element analysis. Shear stress, strain and strain energy density were rapidly increased at the dege of #2 belt at freely rotating state. This concentrated stress and strain made belt edge sparation. Under the condition of flat riged road contact, strain energy density of #2 belt, carcass turn-up part were concentrated and bigger values than only freely rotation state. Therefore, dynamic behaivor of tire has to considered as design factors which are affected to belt edge separation and bead breakage.

  • This paper discusses the measurement of tire driving performance for 2 types of tire model. Tire is almost composed of rubber, and this is related with the bearing capacity of tire due to the external force. In this study, an explicit time integration method has been used to simulate steady state rolling along a straight path and over a cleat. And analysis for tire dynamic response rolling over a cleat is importnat to study automobile NVH properties. Besides, the evaluation of contact shear force is perfomed for steady state rolling and braking state. The results show that there are noticeable differences between 205/60R15 and 225/60R15 tire model.
