After dental implant are planted into their bony site among the various growth factors associated with bone formation. BMP is expressed in the bone surrounding the implant fixture. By taking a close look at BMP2, BMP4 which are growth factors that take put in bone formation, its histologic features and radiographic bone healing patterns we would like to examine the mechanism of osseointegration. We randomly used 8 male and female house rabbit amd used diameter 5 mm height spiral shaped implants(Ostem, Korea) for animal use handled as a resorbable blast machined(RBM) surface and machined surface. 2group were formed and each group had RBM surface and machined surface implant or a simple bone cavity. After 3, 7, 14 and 28 days post surgery 2 objects were sacrificed from each group and histologic specimens were acquired. RT-PCR analysis was conducted and after H&E staining the extent of osseointegration was measured applying a histologic feature and histomorphometric analysis program. Quanitity one -4.41(Bio-Rad, USA) was used after scanning the PCR product image of the growth factors manifested in each group. According to the histomorphometric features the RBM, Machined surface group showed increased contact between bone and implant surface at 3, 7, 14 and 28 days after surgery. The BMP2 level increased in both experiment groups but remained unchanged in the contrast group. BMP4 levels stayed steady after the early post implantation period for RBM but showed decreased in the machined surface group and contrast group. The amount of contact between bone and implant surface increased with the passage of time. BMP2, BMP4 were expressed in both experimental group and contrast group. These growth factors play a role in osseointegration of implant.

In this paper, we introduce an electrocardiogram (ECG) system designed to solve problems caused by wetgels and motion artifacts in measuring active movement. The system is called a dry-contact ECG and was designed by considering impedance matching between skin and electrode as well as the frictional electricity between electrode and clothes. In order to create the system, we measured impedance on the skin-electrode interface, and the result was applied to the electronic circuit scheme. Moreover, we added an electrode on the back of the measurement electrode to make a flow path to ground the electrical noise. The final ECG circuit and novel electrode were used to detect real human cardiac signals from a subject who was tested while standing still and walking. The signals obtained from the two activities were nicely shaped, without any motion artifact noise. We took electrode size into account in this study because the impedance depended on the area of the electrode. An electrode of 50 mm diameter showed the best curve for the ECG signal without any electrical noise.

This study was conducted to develope a capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (cMUT) which enable to high efficient non-contact transmit and receive the ultrasonic wave in air. Theoretical analysis and finite element analysis of the behavior of membrane (such as resonance frequency, membrane deflection, collapse deflection and collapse voltage) of the cMUT were performed. The design parameters of the cMUT such as the dimension and thickness of membrane, thickness of sacrificial layer, thickness and size of electrode were estimated. The resonance frequency of the membrane increased as the thickness of the membrane increased but decreased as the diameter of the membrane increased. The deflection of the membrane increased as d-c bias voltage increased. The collapse voltage of the membrane was analyzed.
We carry out experiments to characterize textured bearing steel with varying hole density and depth. Textured surface is believed to reduce the friction coefficient, and improve performance and wearing caused by third-body contact. We employ three lubrication regime conditions based on the Stribeck curve: boundary lubrication, mixed lubrication, and hydrodynamic lubrication. Ultrasonic machining is an untraditional machining method wherein abrasive grit particles are used. The hammering process on the work piece surface by abrasive provides the desired form. In this study, we create multi-holes on the bearing steel surface for texturing purposes. Holes are formed by an ultrasonic machine with a diameter of 0.534 mm and a depth of about 2-4 mm, and they are distributed on the contact surface with a density between 1.37-2.23%. The hole density over the surface area is an important factor affecting the friction. We test nine types of textured specimens using four times replication and compare them with the untextured specimen using graphs, as well as photographs taken using a scanning electron microscope. We use Analyzes variant in this experiment to find the correlation between each pair of treatments. Finally, we report the effect of hole density and depth on the friction coefficient.
In this study, we conduct fretting corrosion tests on tin-plated brass coupons to investigate the effect of temperature on fretting corrosion for various span amplitudes. We prepare a coupled fretting corrosion specimens using a tin-plated brass coupon with a thickness of $10{\mu}m$. One specimen is a flat coupon and the other specimen is a coupon with a protuberance in 1 mm radius, which is produced using 2 mm diameter steel ball. We conduct fretting corrosion tests at $25^{\circ}C$, $50^{\circ}C$, $75^{\circ}C$, $100^{\circ}C$ by rubbing the coupled coupons together at the contact between the flat and protuberance coupons. We measure electric resistance of the contact during the fretting corrosion test period. There is increase in resistance with fretting cycles. It is found that rate of increase in electric resistance becomes faster with increase in testing temperature. Magnitude of friction coefficient increases with fretting span amplitudes. And, change in friction coefficient becomes desensitized to the increment in span amplitude. Assuming that failure cycle is the cycle with an electric resistance of $0.01{\Omega}$, we find that failure lifetime ($N_f$) decreases with increase in testing temperature. Furthermore, based on the assumption that the damage rate of the connector is inversely related to the failure cycle, we calculate the activation energy for fretting damage to be 13.6 kJ/mole by using the Arrhenius equation. We propose a method to predict failure cycle at different temperatures for span amplitudes below $30{\mu}m$. Friction coefficients generally increase with increase in span amplitude and decrease in testing temperature.

In this study, degradation was observed by irradiating UV rays to the polymer insulators which have been widely used in outdoor electric power facilities. For an indoor accelerated UV test, 0.55 w/m2 of UV rays were applied using a xenon-arc method. A UV detection system with 65 ${\phi}mm$ in diameter, 100 mm in length and 1.0 of brightness (F/#) has been designed. Even though efflorescence on the surface of polymer insulators wasn't observed according to the accelerated UV test. UV rays were detected at around 50% and 40% of insulation breakdown in EPDM and silicone-type insulators respectively. As degradation continued because of an indoor accelerated UV test, breakdown voltage with which UV rays can be detected in an early stage decreased as well. A silicone polymer insulator would be severer than EPDM polymer insulator in terms of surface degradation because of UV strength against $V_m/V_{BD}$ was high in silicone polymer insulators. UV strength in silicone-type insulators increased at 1,000 $kJ/m^2$ because contact angle at the intial stage sharply decreased to from $113^{\circ}$ to $92.1^{\circ}$.

The conventional medium and large caliber gun, in general, utilize the hydro-pneumatic recoil mechanism to control the firing impulse and to return to the battery position. However, this kind of mechanism may cause the problems like the leakages and the property changes in oil and gas due to the temperature variations between low and high temperatures. Accordingly, the friction spring mechanism has recently been researched as an alternative system. The friction spring mechanism consists of a set of closed inner and outer rings with the concentric tapered contact surfaces assembled in the columnar form, and can only be used under the compression load. When the spring column is axially loaded, the tapered surfaces become overlapped, causing the outer rings to expand while the inner rings are being contracted in diameter allowing an axial displacement. Because of friction between tapered contact surfaces, much higher spring stiffness is obtained on the stroke at the increase in load than the stroke at the decrease. In this paper, the dynamic equations regarding the friction spring system and the design approach have been investigated. It is also tried for a dynamic model representing the recoil motion and the friction spring forces. And the model has been proved from firing test using a gun system with friction springs. All the results show that the recoil mechanism using friction springs can substitute for the classic hydro-pneumatic recoil system.

This paper describes the power generating property of hydrothermally grown ZnO nanorods on a flexible polyethersulfone (PES) substrate. The piezoelectric currents generated by the ZnO nanorods were measured when bending the ZnO nanorod by using I-AFM, and the measured piezoelectric currents ranged from 60 to 100 pA. When the PtIr coated tip bends a ZnO nanorod, piezoelectrical asymmetric potential is created on the nanorod surface. The Schottky barrier at the ZnO-metal interface accumulates elecntrons and then release very quickly generating the currents when the tip moves from tensile to compressed part of ZnO nanorod. These ZnO nanorods were grown almost vertically with the length of 300-500 nm and the diameter of 30-60 nm on the Ag/Ti/PES substrate at $90^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours by hydrothermal method. The metal-semiconductor interface property was evaluated by using a HP 4145B Semiconductor Parameter Analyzer and the piezoelectric effect of the ZnO nanorods were evaluated by using an I-AFM. From the measured I-V characteristics, it was observed that ZnO-Ag and ZnO-Au metal-semiconductor interfaces showed an ohmic and a Schottky contact characteristics, respectively. ANSYS finite element simulation was performed in order to understand the power generation mechanism of the ZnO nanorods under applied external stress theoretically.

The typical methods used for inspecting ferromagnetic pipes include the ultrasonic testing (UT) contact method and the following non-contact methods: magnetic flux leakage (MFL), electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMAT), and remote field eddy current testing (RFECT). Among these methods, the RFECT method has the advantage of being able to establish a system smaller than the diameter of a pipe. However, the method has several disadvantages as well, including different sensitivities and difficult-to-repair coil sensors which comprise its array system. Therefore, a giant magneto-resistance (GMR) sensor was applied to address these issues. The GMR sensor is small, easy to replace, and has uniform sensitivity. In this experiment, the GMR sensor was used to measure remote field and defect signal characteristics (in the axial and radial directions) in a ferromagnetic pipe. These characteristics were measured in an effort to investigate standard defects at changing depths within a pipe. The results show that the experiment successfully demonstrated the applicability of the GMR sensor to RFECT signal detection in ferromagnetic pipe.

Current information storage devices read/write data on the rotating disk. The axial vibration of a rotating disk should be suppressed for the successful operation of the device. Information storage devices widely used in these days adopt relatively thick disk which is stiff enough to suppress axial vibration under allowable limit. However, the thickness of the disk is going to be thinner and thinner as the small form factor of the devices is getting preferred by the consumer. In this study, a stabilizer system, which is composed with 8 air bearings, is proposed for suppressing the axial vibration of a $95{\mu}m$ thick PC disk in a non-contacting manner. The performance of the stabilizer system is simulated by numerical computation and then confirmed its results through a series of experiment. A thin and flexible disk has various vibration modes when it rotates in high speed. The stabilizer system generates positive as well as negative pressure due to the rotation of flexible disk so that the force due to the pressure distribution pushes and pulls rotating disk in a non-contacting manner. The balance between positive and negative pressure forces can be obtained by adjusting the area and the slope of the air bearing surface. The axial vibration of the flexible disk of 120mm diameter is suppressed successfully from over $1000{\mu}m$ to $30{\mu}m$ peak-to-peak value at the rotational speed of 5,000rpm.
