  • Gear transmission system is widely applied in engineering. As the problem of contact fatigue, wear, lubrication failure etc, the condition of gear teeth contacts will be worse. The vibration and sound signals in the gear system will be affected by the some failures like scuffing, abrasive wear and spalling due to the deterioration of gear teeth surface. By studying the estimation of specific film thickness, measurement of reduction in tooth thickness, visual examination of wear mechanisms on the gear teeth and their effects on the statistical parameters of vibration and sound signals, the research obtained the satisfactory results on accessing the surface fatigue wear in a spur gear system. The paper utilizes the relationship between statistical parameters obtained from sound signals and Stribeck curve to confirm the hypothesis of dependency of surface fatigue wear, specific film thickness.

  • A vibration test for a cylindrical rod inserted on the grid support structure was tested using the sine sweep excitation method with closed loop force control. The effect of the mounting location of a test rod on the vibration characteristics of a rod continuously supported by the full size($16{\times}16$) grid support was identified. An electromagnetic vibration shaker, non-contact displacement sensor and HP/VXI data acquisition device were used and TDAS software was also used as a data sampling and processing tools. The natural frequencies and mode shape of the test rod were consistent with the previous works of a rod vibration test with partial grids($3{\times}3,\;5{\times}5\;and\;7{\times}7$). The frequency characteristics of the rod according to the mounting location were shown clear discrepancies, but mode shapes were nearly same. As the test rod closes to the bottom clamping region of the spacer grid, peak vibration amplitudes of the rod become smaller.

  • In this paper, a slim type actuator is proposed rising a bimorph PZT and a circular rotor link. The bimorph contacts the circular rotor, and its displacement generates the rotational motion of the rotor. The rotor causes the linear motion of AF and zoom lens through gear and a motion guide. The proposed model enables the actuations of many lens groups for zoom module by extending the single lens model. The important design parameter is the contact force determined by the frictional coefficient and preload between the rotor and PZT bimorph. A prototype of the single actuator model is manufactured and experiments results using LDV and tachometer are compared to the theoretical and numerical predictions. Experiments show the linear bimorph actuator model meets the performance criteria of the lens actuation, and it can be applicable to various slim type actuators for AF and zoom motions in mobile cameras.

  • In recent years, the semiconductor industry and the optical industry is developed rapidly. The recent demand has expanded for optical components such as a optical lens, a optical semiconductor and a measuring instrument. Object transport systems are driven typically by the magnetic field and the conveyer belt. Recent industry requires more faster and efficient transport system. However, conventional transport systems are not adequate for transportation of optical elements and semiconductors. Because conveyor belts can damage precision optical elements by the contact force and magnetic systems can destroy the inner structure of semiconductor by the magnetic field. In this paper, the levitation transport system using ultrasonic wave is developed for transporting precision elements without damages. This transport system is using 2-mode ultrasonic wave excitation and flexural beam modes shapes are evaluated. It compared simulation results with experimental results

  • With respect to the researches of the optical flying head(OFH) , the head-gimbal assembly should be analyzed to guarantee the stable fabrication and the characteristics of shock resistance. The suitable design is proved through the Probabilistic analysis of the design parameters and material properties of the model. Probabilistic analysis is a technique that be used to assess the effect of uncertain input parameters and assumptions on your analysis model. Using a probabilistic analysis you can find out how much the results of a finite elements analysis are affected by uncertainties in the model. Another factor is analysis of the dynamic shock analysis. For the mobile application, one of the important requirements is durability under severe environmental condition, especially, resistance to mechanical shock. An important challenge in the disk recording is to improve disk drive robustness in shock environments. If the system comes in contact with outer shock disturbance. the system gets critical damage in head-gimbal assembly or disk. This paper describes probabilistic and dynamic shock analysis of head-gimbal assembly in micro MO drives using OFH slider.

  • This paper dealt with an experimental study on the hydro-elastic vibration of clamped perforated rectangular plates submerged in water. The penetration of holes in the plates had a triangular pattern with P/D (pitch to diameter) 1.750, 2.125, 2.500, 3.000 and 3.750. The natural frequencies of the perforated plates in air were obtained by the analytical method based n the relation between the reference kinetic and maximum potential energy and compared with the experimental results. Good agreement between the results was found for the natural frequencies of the perforated plates in air. It was empirically found that the natural frequencies of the perforated plate in air increase with an increase of P/D, on the other hand, the natural frequencies of the perforated plate in contact with water decrease with an increase of P/D. Additionally, the effect of the submerged depth on the natural frequency was investigated.

  • The vibration of a running railway vehicle can be classified on lateral, longitudinal and vertical motions. The important factor on the stability and ride quality of a railway vehicle is the lateral motion. The contact between wheel and rail with conicity influences strongly on the lateral motion. In this study, an experiment for the vibration of a running railway vehicle was performed using a of the scale model of a railway vehicle. Also, the effects on the car-body, bogie and wheelset were examined for the weight and the stiffness of the second suspension system. The experimental results showed that the lateral vibration increases as the wheel conicity and stiffness of the second suspension system increase. And the lateral vibration of the bogie increases as the mass ratio between car-body and bogie increases. Also, the lateral vibration of the wheel becomes high at low speed, while the wheel of 1/20 conicity makes severe vibration at high speed running.

  • This paper presents a damper system design in torque converter to minimize the vibration in powertrain of automatic transmission vehicle. The lock-up clutch in torque converter makes engine and transmission connected directly. When the lock-up clutch is engaged the torque fluctuation of engine is attenuated by the damper system. This function decides the vehicle power-train dynamic characteristics. At first, the dynamic hysteresis effect with any self and surface to surface contact problems of the damper springs in the damper system for torque converter is analyzed by using FEM. It is shown that these simulation results have a good design reference to energy dissipation operating by damper system in torque converter. And, to calculate dynamic characteristics, the vehicle model is structured by using $AMESim^{(R)}$?? that is a common use program. The vehicle model shows the frequency response of vehicle by changing the stiffness of damper spring, and these results lead the most suitable stiffness of spring. Also, new damper system is analyzed resonance frequency variation and is compared with prior damper.

  • This paper deals with the method of vibration measurement of a gun barrel structure using mechanical filter. When a bullet with high speed is moving within a gun barrel type structure with low bending vibration frequencies, it is difficult to measure the bending vibration signals of the structure. For example, noncontact type sensors such as displacement or velocity sensor are not appropriate for the measurement of vibrational signals because of the movement effect of the equipment frame through the moving structures or effect of the ground vibration. One of contact type sensors such as accelerometer is profitable for measurement of vibrational signals because of its wide measurement ranges. In the case of a gun barrel structure including high vibrational signals like shock waves, however, it is necessary to propose vibration measurement method filtering high frequencies. The purpose of the paper is to propose the proper vibrational measurement technique filtering high frequencies of a gun barrel type structure.

  • When biped robots make turns, the ability to walk stably and precisely along any circular path is crucial. In this context, inverse kinematics solutions are found for accurate gait realization, and new zero moment point(ZMP) equations are derived with respect to the cyclindrical coordinate system to facilitate generation of stable walking patterns. Then, appropriate steady and transitional walking patterns are both proposed in form of time functons. Subsequently, walking patterns for a path but of different speeds are generated using the functions and associated formulas, and preliminarily checked for stability based on the ZMP equations. Upon comparison of those cases, one can see how and when robots may fall down during circular walking. Finally, those patterns are put to test on the sample robot by ADAMS(R) along with the inverse kinematics solutions and a new balance control scheme compensating for insufficient stability particulary during the initial transition period. Test results show that the robot can walk along the circular path as predicted at a resonably high speed despite the distributed mass and ground contact effects, validating effectiveness of the suggested approach.
