Mechanical gears driven by direct contact have problems including noise, vibration and heat. In order to, solve these problems, magnetic gears having a non-contact magnetic coupling have been proposed. Through various studies on magnetic gears, we found that losses are changed when the number of magnetic poles varies in the same gear ratio. For this reason, research team expect the iron loss of the magnetic gear and the Eddy current loss of the permanent magnet will have a certain tendency depending on the number of poles. This paper identified the magnetic gear's loss tendency according to the number of poles, and laid the basis for efficiency improvement design.

In vehicle door system, weatherstrip seals protect passengers form noise, dust, rain and wind out of the vehicle. The higher efficient a weatherstrip is, the more durable it is in contact between the door and body frame. In this study, nonlinear finite element(FE) analysis is performed to obtain cauchy-stresses, displacements and reaction forces of the weatherstrip. Mechanical properties of the weatherstrip is obtained by uniaxial tension test. The MARC which is a commercial software for the nonlinear analysis of a flexible FE model is used. Twenty-one cases of the FE model are developed by using Ogden-foam formulation. In the results of nonlinear FE analysis, the most valuable deformation of the weatherstrip occurred when displacement control value reaches 7.2mm. Severe deformation is observed as the displacement control value become more increased. When the weatherstrip is designed, it would be considered that the displacement value of the weatherstrip has to be less than 7.2mm.

The fuel economy is a key issue for the automotive industry due to environmental concerns. In particular, only 5-20% of the energy generated in a car using an internal combustion engine is used as power, and the remaining energy is dissipated due to friction with other parts. The main components in the reciprocating piston type compressors commonly used in general vehicles include shafts, swash plates, pistons, and cylinders, and severe friction loss occurs due to the contact of these components. Generally, the wear contact is the maximum between the shaft and cylinder and between the piston and swash plate. The friction of these parts may cause quality problems and deteriorate the durability. In this study, to reduce the frictional loss, a prototype with additional coating agents was produced. Moreover, an optimized design was generated, and performance, noise, and durability tests were conducted. A more durable product was successfully obtained.
Using passive electric field sensor which operates in non-contact mode, we can measure the electric potential induced from the change of electric charges on a sensor caused by the movement of human body or hands. In this study, we propose a new method, which utilizes PLN induced to the sensor around the moving object, to detect one's hand movement and extract gesture frames from the detected signals. Signals from the EPS sensors include a large amount of power line noise usually existing in the places such as rooms or buildings. Using the fact that the PLN is shielded in part by human access to the sensor, signals caused by motion or hand movement are detected. PLN consists mainly of signals with frequency of 60 Hz and its harmonics. In our proposed method, signals only 120 Hz component in frequency domain are chosen selectively and exclusively utilized for detection of hand movement. We use FFT to measure a spectral-separated frequency signal. The signals obtained from sensors in this way are continued to be compared with the threshold preset in advance. Once motion signals are detected passing throng the threshold, we determine the motion frame based on period between the first threshold passing time and the last one. The motion detection rate of our proposed method was about 90% while the correct frame extraction rate was about 85%. The method like our method, which use PLN signal in order to extract useful data about motion movement from non-contact mode EPS sensors, has been rarely reported or published in recent. This research results can be expected to be useful especially in circumstance of having surrounding PLN.
A fitting process carried out in the automobile transmission assembly line is classified into three classes; heat fitting, press fitting, and their combined fitting. Heat fitting is a method that applies heat in the outer diameter of a gear to a suitable range under the tempering temperature and assembles the gear and the shaft made larger than the inner radius of the gear. Its stress depends on the yield strength of a gear. Press fitting is a method that generally squeezes gear toward that of a shaft at room temperature by a press. Another method heats warmly gear and safely squeezes it toward that of a shaft. A warm shrink fitting process for an automobile transmission part is now gradually increased, but the parts (shaft/gear) assembled by the process produced dimensional change in both outer diameter and profile of the gear so that it may cause noise and vibration between gears. In order to solve these problems, we need an analysis of a warm shrink fitting process in which design parameters such as contact pressure according to fitting interference between outer diameter of a shaft and inner diameter of a gear, fitting temperature, and profile tolerance of gear are involved. In this study, an closed form equation to predict the contact pressure and fitting load was proposed in order to develop an optimization technique of a warm shrink fitting process and verified its reliability through the experimental results measured in the field and FEM, thermal-structural coupled field analysis. Actual loads measured in the field have a good agreement with the results obtained from theoretical and finite element analysis and also the expanded amounts of the outer diameters of the gears have a good agreement with the results.

The tire tread is contacted with road surface directly. It gives significant effect on the breaking conditions, traction, noise and so on. The tread having grooves with complex geometry is molded by shaping process. The flow behavior of tread rubber in a mold affects the quality of the tread and it leads to the running performance of automobile. In this study, the flow behavior of rubber in shaping process has been investigated by computer simulation. The objective of flow simulation is the design of tread shape based on the contact of rubber on the mold surface and flow behavior of rubber. Different sequences of contact of rubber on the mold surface and flow behavior of rubber are observed according to the shape of tread on the mold surface. It was verified that the shape of tread gives significant effect on the flow behavior of rubber. Different flow behaviors of rubber and sequential contact of rubber to the mold surface were observed according to the shape of tread on the mold surface. Therefore, we have identified that the shape of tread give a change in the flow behavior of rubber.

In this paper, we study a cause of malfunction of switch to control drive motor in DFMS(Digital Flux Mapping System) which can measure incore neutron flux of the nuclear plant, and develope a method to solve this problem. DFMS has the type of generating contact signal by mechanical switch lever, which is operated whenever thimble detector inserted or withdrawed through thimble Guide Tube. However the characteristics of the lever tend to be changed by mechanical degrade or bad environment and the lever finally generates errotic contact signal. Therefore we installed electric coil ass'yin the outside of Guide Tube instead of mechanical switch assy's. In addition we applied resonance effect to control circuit and installed condenser in the input of power supply to protect noise and interference. After completion of this improvement, we tested this improved device repetitively under the various conditions. In conclusion, we identified the generation of the desired contact signal and the prevention of detector failure through plant surveillance test during normal plant operation.
