  • Disc brake noise is an important customer satisfaction and warranty issue for many manufacturers as indicated by technical literature regarding the subject coming from Motor Company. This research describes results of a study to assess disk brake squeal propensity using finite element methods and optimal technique (Kriging). In this study, finite element analysis has been performed to determine likely modes of brake squeal. This paper deals with friction-induced vibration of disc brake system under contact friction coefficient. A linear, finite element model to represent the floating caliper disc brake system is proposed. The complex eigen-values are used to investigate the dynamic stability and in order to verify simulations which are based on the FEM model. In this paper, Kriging from among the meta-modeling techniques is proposed for an optimal design scheme to reduce the brake squeal noise.

  • The abnormal sound of generator frame is analyzed by a acceleration signal. The spike-like time signal is major characteristics of impacting force. The distributional map of vibration level is one of visualization method. With map, noise source was easily detected. After de_assembly of generator, loose part of internal component is the source of impact force by mechanical movement of stator inherently. In contact condition of part with clearance, the level of impact signal is different at each revolution and impact signal did not happens periodically.

  • In recent years, vehicle manufacturers have steadily developed fuel saving technologies such as multi-speed automatic transmission. With such a background, the Hyundai-powertech have developed the new 6-speed rear wheel drive(RWD)automatic transmission for FR vehicles. Despite having six-speed, it has the same number of planetary gears as a previously used five-speed automatic transmission and fewer brakes and one-way clutches than the 5 A/T, meaning that it is light, compact, and inexpensive. But, in addition to meshing this internal and external gear simultaneously and phase difference by the tooth contact point and the time difference occurs asymmetric and symmetric sideband noise and vibration caused by the modulation in the vehicle. In this paper presents a method for the design of the carrier phase difference by developing various theories and experiments for gear noise.

  • The cause of excess current noise which appears some times in RuO$_2$ thick film chip resistors and the process to reduce such noise are investigated. We observed that too large thermal expansion coefficients of resistor paste and electrode metal paste can induce the mechanical stress and microcracks in the contact region of the two sintered materials. Such microcracks result in the reduction of conduction paths in the sintered electrode and this provokes the increase of the resistance value and the current noise. Such excessive current noise induced by microcracks could be reduced or even eliminated by using an enlarged overcoat patterns in the plating process or by adding an additional annealing process before plating.

  • We have been developing the pantograph for Korean High Speed Train for the last five years. To fulfil the following requirements at designed speed of 350km/h : 1) contact loss less than 1 %, 2) aerodynamic noise less than 91dB, 3) average uplift force less than 200N, the pantograph has been modified two times since the first prototype pantograph was manufactured, By means of the following up characteristic test, low speed wind tunnel test, and high speed wind tunnel test for the prototype pantographs, we found that the aerodynamic uplift force did not exceed l60N at speed up to 350km/h and the aerodynamic noise was less than 88dB, that the following up characteristics of the prototype pantograph was excellent.

  • Wind tunnel test of a new pantograph, that is developed through the KHST project, was performed in RTRI wind tunnel test center of Japan end of last June. This paper indtroduces the measurement results and analysis of noise measurement part that is achieved during the wind tunnel test. The maximum measured sound pressure level at 5m shows 102.3dB(A) at 350km/h and it leads to 88.3dB(A) of predicted sound pressure at 25m that satisfy 91dB(A) of evaluation criteria. Major noise sources of the pantograph was identified as a link between upper and lower arm, panhead contact strips and shunt wires.

Application of dithering control for the railway wheel squealing noise mitigation

  • A new methodology for mitigation of the wheel squealing is proposed and investigated based on the dithering control. The idea can be applied in railway lines particularly in urban areas. The idea is clearly presented, and applied to a validated model. A full-scale model including the vehicle, curved track and wheel/rail contact is developed in the time domain to analyze the possibility and level of wheel squeal noise. Comparing the numerical results with a field test, the model is validated in different levels namely i) occurrence, ii) squealing frequency and iii) noise level. Two different approaches are proposed a) dithering of the wheel with piezoelectric patches and b) dithering of the rail with piezoelectric stacks. The noise level as well as the wheel responses is compared after applying the control strategy. A parametric study is carried out and effect of the dithering voltage and frequency on the squealing noise is investigated. It is found that both the strategies perform quite effectively within the saturating threshold of piezoelectric actuators.

진공차단기용 전자식 센서의 선정 및 노이즈 시험에 관한 연구 (A Study on the selection and noise test of elelctronic sensor for Vacuum Circuit Breaker)

  • 본 연구는 진공차단기 기계식 보조접점(MOC)의 구조적인 취약성을 해결하기 위해 전자식 센서 기술을 이용한 전자식 보조접점(EOC) 개발에 선행되어야할 센서의 선정 및 노이즈 시험에 관한 것으로, 기존 기계적 보조접점(MOC)에서 발생하는 반복적인 떨림 및 반동 현상에 의한 접점 오동작을 최소화하는 제품을 개발하는 것을 최종 목표로 하였다. 실험 결과, 차단기 투입 및 개방시 개방시의 써지전압 상승속도가 투입시 보다 4.2배 빠른 것으로 측정되었고, 소음크기는 각각 120dB, 110dB로 측정되었다. 상용주파과전압 60kV를 인가하였을 때 진공차단기 투입 및 개방시 센서에서 출력되는 파형은 일그러짐이 없이 정상적으로 동작됨을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 150kV $1.2{\times}50{\mu}s$의 충격파를 인가하였을 때 센서의 투입 및 개방측 출력접점의 전압파형이 일그러짐이 없이 정상상태를 유지하였으며, 2500A의 전류를 인가하였을 때 자계 잡음을 측정한 결과, 전압파형이 일그러짐이 없이 정상적으로 동작하였다.
