An Algorithm for Robust Noninteracting Control of Ship Propulsion System

  • In this paper, a new algorithm for noninteracting control system design is proposed and applied to ship propulsion system control. For example, if a ship diesel engine is operated by consolidated control with controllable pitch propeller (CPP), the minimum fuel consumption is achieved satisfying the demanded ship speed. For this, it is necessary that the ship is operated on the ideal operating line which satisfies the minimum fuel consumption, and the both pitch angle of CPP and throttle valve angle are controlled simultaneously. In this context of view, this paper gives a controller design method for a ship propulsion system with CPP based on noninteracting control theory. Where, linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach is introduced for the control system design to satisfy the given $H_{\infty}$, constraint in the presence of physical parameter perturbation and disturbance input. To the end, the validity and applicability of this approach are illustrated by the simulation in the all operating ranges.

For this, it is necessary that the ship is operated on the ideal operating line which satisfies the minimum fuel consumption and that the pitch angle of CPP and throtle valve angle are controlled simultaneously. In this point of view, this paper presents a controller design method for a ship propulsion system with CPP based on the decoupling control theory. To do this, Linear Matrix Inequality(LMI) approach is introduced for the control system to satisfy the given $H_\infty$ control performance and robust stability in the presence of physical parameter perturbations. The validity and applicability of this approach are illustrated by simulation in the all operating ranges.

프로야구구단의 라이선싱 패션제품 소비에 대한 질적 연구 (Qualitative Research on Consumption of Professional Baseball Club's Licensed Fashion Product)

  • This study examined the consumption of licensed sports fashion products by sports fans in order to provide useful information to apparel companies that are interested in sports sponsorship marketing. Grounded theory approach was adopted to explore consumers' attitude toward the sponsoring companies, and motives of buying licensed fashion products. In-depth interviews were conducted with female fans of professional baseball clubs. The main phenomena of interest was consumer purchase of licensed fashion product, with the emphasis on cultural consumption as a causal condition. Providing support for victory, vicarious consumption, social identification, and needs to differentiate were identified as strategies related to licensed product purchase. Economic situations and limitations to purchase are identified as the mediating conditions. The study identified the effects of the consumption on the fan as well as the sponsoring companies as consequences of the phenomena. Sports marketing strategies were suggested for apparel companies based on the analysis of the consumption rituals for licensed fashion goods.

Consumption Value, Consumer Innovativeness and New Product Adoption: Empirical Evidence from Vietnam

  • The purpose of this study is to employ the theory of consumption value and consumers' innovative personality characteristics to explain the adoption of new personal electronics devices in Vietnamese market. This study adapts a quantitative survey-based approach to test hypotheses about relationship between consumption value, product specific innovativeness and new product adoption. The study uses a quantitative data set of 915 consumers who owned one mobile electronic device at least in Ho Chi Minh city, one of the biggest cities of Vietnam. The data was collected through personal interview and convenient sampling method. The conceptual model was tested using PLS structural equation model. The findings of this study suggest that both consumption value and product specific innovativeness influence the adoption of new electronic products. The results also reveal that product specific innovativeness mediates the relationship between consumption value and new product adoption. The study further identified that consumption value was taken as a second-order multidimensions construct with five components, namely functional value, epistemic value, economic value, social value and emotional value. As a result, the research suggests some implications to enhance marketers' capabilities to develop strategies for launching new hi-tech products in an emerging market as Vietnam.

  • This paper considers a profit-based unit commitment problem with fuel consumption constraint and maintenance cost, which is one of the key decision problems in electricity industry. The nature of non-linearity inherent in the constraints and objective functions makes the problem intractable which have led many researches to focus on Lagrangian based heuristics. To solve the problem more effectively, we propose mixed integer programming based solution algorithm linearizing the complex non-linear constraints and objectives functions. The computational experiments using the real-world operation data taken from a domestic electricity power generator show that the proposed algorithm solves the given problem effectively.

대체적 감가상각기법을 활용한 도로자산의 가치 평가 : 국도 1호선을 중심으로 (Evaluation of Road Asset Value using Alternative Depreciation methods : Focusing on National Highway No.1)

  • PURPOSES : This study proposes the road asset valuation approach using alternative depreciation methods. It has become necessary to have asset management system according to the adoption of accrual basis accounting for governmental financial reporting and the amendment of the road act. Therefore, it is very important to analyze the effect of depreciation methods on road asset value as a basic research for road asset management system. METHODS : The Ministry of Strategy and Finance (MOSF) has mainly performed road asset valuation based on Write down Replacement Cost and Straight Line depreciation method. This study suggests some appropriate asset valuation methods for road assets through case analysis using three depreciation methods: Consumption-based depreciation method, Condition-based depreciation method, and Straight Line depreciation method. A road asset valuation data of national highway route 1 (year 2014) is used to analyze the effect of three depreciation methods on the road asset value. Road assets include land and structures (pavement, bridge, and tunnel). This study mainly focuses on structures such as bridges and tunnels, because according to governmental accounting standards, land and road pavement assets do not depreciate. RESULTS : The main results of this study are as follows. Firstly, overall asset value of national highway route 1 was estimated at 6.97 trillion KRW when MOSF's method (straight-line depreciation method) is applied. Secondly, asset value was estimated at 4.85 trillion KRW on application of consumption-based depreciation method. Thirdly, asset value was estimated at 4.37 trillion KRW when condition-based depreciation method is applied. Therefore, either consumption-based or condition-based depreciation methods would be more appropriate than straight-line depreciation method if we can use the condition data of road assets including land that are available in real time. CONCLUSIONS : Since road assets such as pavements, bridges, and tunnels have various patterns of deterioration and condition monitoring period, it is necessary to consider a specific valuation method according to the condition of each road asset. Firstly, even though road pavements do not depreciate, asset valuation through condition-based depreciation method would be more appropriate when requirements for application of non-depreciation approach are not satisfied. Since bridge and tunnel facilities show various patterns of deterioration and condition monitoring period by type and condition level, consumption-based depreciation method based on deterioration model would be appropriate. Therefore, it is necessary to have a reasonable asset management system to apply condition-based depreciation method and a periodic condition investigation to manage road assets well.

지구온난화에 의한 가정용 전력에너지의 소비평가 (An Assessment of the Residential Electric Energy Consumption Induced by Global Warming)

  • This study provides an impact assesment of climate change on energy consumption, based on active-deal scenario. This approach assumes that the amount of electric energy consumption depends on human spontaneous acts against local (REC) has ben developed by using monthly mean temperature and monthly amount of electric energy consumption in the 6 major cities over the 19-205 period. The statistical model is utilized to estimate the past and future REEC, and to assess the economic benefits and damage in energy consumption sector. For an estimation of the future REEC, climate change scenario, which is generated by National Institute of Meteorological Research, is utilized in this study. According to the model, it is estimated that over the standard period (1999~2005), there might be economic benefits of about 31 bilion Won/year in Seoul due to increasing temperature than in the 1980s. The REC is also predicted to be gradually reduced across the Korean peninsula since the 2020s. These results suggest that Korea will gain economic benefits in the REC sector during the 21st century as temperature increases under global warming scenarios.

Relationships between Urbanization, Economic Growth, Energy Consumption, and CO2 Emissions: Empirical Evidence from Indonesia

  • This study aims to investigate the relationship between urbanization, economic growth, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions in Indonesia. The data used in the study are time-series data for the period 1985-2017; the data utilized are sourced from World Development Indicators obtained on the World Bank database. The method uses a quantitative approach that applies the vector error correction model based on the Granger causality test. The empirical results reveal that, in the short run, there is evidence that urbanization and energy consumption can causes CO2 emissions, and they also prove that urbanization can cause energy consumption. Also, other findings prove the existence of long-run relationships flowing from energy consumption, economic growth, and CO2 emissions toward urbanization, as well as the existence of the relationship flowing from urbanization, economic growth, and CO2 emissions towards energy consumption. The results of testing the relationship between economic growth and CO2 emissions reveal that the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis is proven in Indonesia. Thus, policies are needed to limit the impact of urbanization through high awareness-raising to maintain environmental quality and greater use of energy. Also, energy conservation policies are needed in all sectors, especially the electricity, industry, and transportation sectors.

생산 프론티어 접근을 통한 에너지효율 비교: OECD 국가를 중심으로 (Comparison of Energy Efficiency by Production Frontier Approach: Based on OECD Countries)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 생산 프론티어 접근을 통하여 OECD 국가의 에너지효율과 경제성장이 에너지수요에 미치는 영향을 비교하는 것이다. 본 연구는 OECD 국가를 대상으로 전통적 에너지 원단위와 생산 프론티어 접근에 의한 에너지효율, 생산 프론티어 상의 효율점에서 에너지 과다 여유분의 존재, 생산의 기술구조 하에서 GDP 증가에 따른 에너지수요 탄력성을 살펴보았다. 첫째, 전통적 에너지 원단위는 방사선 에너지효율과는 상관성이 낮고 여유분 에너지효율, 비방사선 에너지효율과 에너지 최소화 방향의 수평선 에너지효율 등과는 일정한 상관성을 보인다. 에너지 원단위만으로 에너지효율 여부를 판단하는 것은 오류가 있을 수 있다. 특히 방사선 효율에 의한 에너지효율은 대부분의 국가의 에너지효율을 과대평가하는 경향이 있다. 둘째, OECD 국가들이 프론티어 상의 효율적인 생산점에서도 불필요하게 에너지를 소비하는 것이 연평균 17.3%이므로 에너지의 추가 저감이 필요하다. 셋째, OECD 국가의 경제성장에 대한 에너지 탄력성의 평균은 1.1로서 거의 단위 탄력성에 가깝다. 탄력성의 국가별 차이는 존재하고 탄력성이 높은 국가의 에너지수요는 높다.

한국의 에너지 소비와 경제성장의 탈동조화에 대한 분석 (An Analysis on the Decoupling between Energy Consumption and Economic Growth in South Korea)

  • Purpose - This study analyzed the decoupling phenomenon between energy consumption and economic growth in Korea from 1990 to 2021. The main purpose of this study is to suggest policy implications for achieving a low-carbon society and decoupling that Korea must move forward in the face of the climate change crisis. Design/methodology/approach - This study investigated the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth by energy source and sector using the energy-EKC (EEKC) hypothesis which included the energy consumption on the traditional Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC), and the impulse response function (IRF) model based on Bayesian vector auto-regression (BVAR). Findings - During the analysis period, the trend of decoupling of energy consumption and economic growth in Korea is confirmed starting from 1996. However, the decoupling tendency appeared differently depending on the differences in energy consumption by sources and fields. The results of the IRF model using data on energy consumption by source showed that the impact of GDP and renewable energy consumption resulted in an increase in energy consumption of bio and waste, but a decrease in energy consumption by sources, and the impact of trade dependence was found to increase the consumption of petroleum products. Research implications or Originality - According to the main results, efficient distribution by existing energy source is required through expansion of development of not only renewable energy but also alternative energy. Additionally, in order to increase the effectiveness of existing energy policies to achieve carbon neutrality, more detailed strategies by source and sector of energy consumption are needed.
