In this paper, a constant frequency phase shifting PWM controlled voltage source full bridge-type series load resonant high-frequency inverter using the IGBT power modules is presented for innovative consumer electromagnetic induction heating applications such as a hot water producer, steamer and super heated steamer. The full bridge arm side link passive quasi-resonant capacitor snubbers in parallel with the each power semiconductor device and high frequency AC load side linked active edge inductive snubber-assisted series load resonant tank soft switching inverter with a constant frequency phase shifted PWM control scheme is discussed and evaluated on the basis of the simulation and experimental results. It is proved from a practical point of view that the series load resonant and edge resonant hybrid high-frequency soft switching PWM inverter topology, what is called class DE type. including the variable-power variable-frequency(VPVF) regulation function can expand zero voltage soft switching commutation range even under low output power setting ranges, which is more suitable and acceptable for induction heated dual packs fluid heater developed newly for consumer power utilizations. Furthermore, even in the lower output power regulation mode of this high-frequency load resonant tank high frequency inverter circuit it is verified that this inverter can achieve ZVS with the aid of the single auxiliary inductor snubber.
Integration of multiple communication technologies in a smart grid (SG) enables employing cognitive radio (CR) technology for improving reliability and security with low latency by adaptively and effectively allocating spectral resources. The versatile features of the CR enable the smart meter to select either the unlicensed or the licensed band for transmitting data to the utility company, thus reducing communication outage. Demand response management is regarded as the control unit of the SG that balances the load by regulating the real-time price that benefits both the utility company and consumers. In this study, joint allocation of the transmission power to the smart meter and consumer's demand is formulated as a two stage multi-armed bandit game in which the players select their optimal strategies noncooperatively without having any prior information about the media. Furthermore, based on historical rewards of the player, a real-time pricing adaptation method is proposed. The latter is validated through numerical results.
This paper deals with a novel solid state controller (NSSC) for an isolated asynchronous generator (IAG) feeding 3-phase 4-wire loads driven by constant power prime movers, such as uncontrolled pico hydro turbines. AC capacitor banks are used to meet the reactive power requirement of the asynchronous generator. The proposed NSSC is realized using a set of IGBTs (Insulated gate bipolar junction transistors) based current controlled 2-leg voltage source converters (CC- VSC) and a DC chopper at its DC bus, which keeps the generated voltage and frequency constant in spite of changes in consumer loads. The neutral point of the load is created using aT-configuration of the transformers. The IAG system is modeled in MATLAB along with Simulink and PSB (power system block set) toolboxes. The simulated results are presented to demonstrate the capability of the isolated generating system consisting of NSSC and IAG driven by uncontrolled pico hydro turbine and feeding 3-phase 4-wire loads.
Commercial home appliances using remotely controlled systems consume electric power while in standby mode to prepare for receiving a remote turn-on signal. The proposed power system can significantly reduce standby power consumption without increasing cost. Furthermore, since a Electronic Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC) is used as an auxiliary power storage element, the life cycle is longer and system reliability can be better than with existing approaches. When the energy of the EDLC is not sufficient for turning on the appliance, the power system charges the EDLC without affecting the main system. The proposed power system is verified with a commercial LCD TV and a 3.93mW standby consumption is obtained. This standby consumption can be regarded as zero standby equipment according to the IEC-62031 standard.

This paper presents a Digital Signal Processor achieving high through-put for both decision intensive and computation intensive tasks. The proposed processor employees a multiplier, two ALU and load/store. Unit as operational units. Those four units are controlled and works parallel by superscalar control scheme, which is different from prior DSP architecture. The performance evaluation was done by implementing AC-3 decoding algorithm and 37.8% improvement was achieved. This study is valuable especially for the consumer electronics applications, which require very low cost.
We are now in the era of digital convergence with CE products and PC at the center, but product diversification occurs in the same breath. Each device may perform its own functions itself independently, but proportion of the inter-device usage is increasing gradually by concept of a home network and ubiquitous widely prevailed. The consumer's need of inter-device connection will take the dominative position of the market. Therefore, we can easily forecast that diversification of the products may inevitably lead connectivity patterns complicated considering recent market situation and trends. In this paper, we propose the methodology for designing inter-device connectivity which covers issues such like segmenting numerous number of connectivity pattern, and establishing their structure of control. Our methodology also supports the inter-device connection with extensive latitudes and a multi-device simultaneous control. In order to present inter-device connectivity guideline, we define four stages of a user experience - Connection, Configuration, Use, Disconnection. Based on the 4 user experience stages, we suggest a specific connectivity designing guideline for each step.

The operating environments of factories and manufacturing units have changed dramatically due to globalization, population, and customization. The existing factories are converted into smart units using information and communications technology (ICT). These smart factories can produce, control, repair, and manage themselves. The manufacturing processes are efficiently optimized using the monitoring and analysis methods of ICT. In this experimental study, we carried out a survey on the system solution providers and consumer companies to determine the field conditions and requirements necessary for assembling a smart factory. Using the results of this survey, we effectively devised smart factory solutions and implemented them on the existing conditions in various factories.

Nowadays it is necessary to replace electrical wires with another intelligent connection method because the consumers, who have much experience with mobile smart devices, are expecting easier and smarter connectivity in their home electronics such as wireless linking. In this paper a bidirectional CEC control scheme is newly proposed to expand the controllability from one to two way in a millimeter band image transmission system because two degree of freedom controllability presents more intelligent convenience in HDMI interface systems. Experimental study shows the feasibility of the proposed system as an advanced image transmission solution in millimeter band including an intelligent 2 DOF CEC interface with the performance result of 3.0 Gbps transmission band for 1080p full-HD image steaming.
In this paper a modular high performance MV-to-LV rectifier based on a cascaded H-bridge rectifier is presented. The proposed rectifier can directly connect to the medium voltage levels and provide a low-voltage and highly-stable DC interface with the consumer applications. The input stage eliminates the necessity for heavy and bulky step-down transformers. It corrects the input power factor and maintains the voltage balance among the individual DC buses. The second stage includes the high frequency parallel-output DC/DC converters which prepares the galvanic isolation, regulates the output voltage, and attenuates the low frequency voltage ripple ($2f_{line}$) generated by the first stage. The parallel-output converters can work in interleaving mode and the active load-current sharing technique is utilized to balance the load power among them. The detailed analysis for modeling and control of the proposed structure is presented. The validity and performance of the proposed topology is verified by simulation and experimental results.

Home automation networks are good environments for merging sensor networks and consumer electronics technologies. It is very important to reduce the energy consumption of each sensor node because sensor nodes operate with limited power based on a battery that cannot be easily replaced. One of the primary mechanisms for achieving low energy operation in energy-constrained wireless sensor networks is the duty-cycle operation, but this operation has several problems. For example, unnecessary energy consumption occurs during synchronization between transmission schedules and sleep schedules. In addition, a low duty-cycle usually causes more performance degradation, if the network becomes congested. Therefore, an appropriate control scheme is required to solve these problems. In this paper, we propose UDC (Unsynchronized Duty-cycle Control), which prevents energy waste caused by unnecessary preamble transmission and avoids congestion using duty-cycle adjustment. In addition, the scheme adjusts the starting point of the duty-cycle in order to reduce sleep delay. Our simulation results show that UDC improves the reliability and energy efficiency while reducing the end-to-end delay of the unsynchronized duty-cycled MAC (Media Access Control) protocol in sensor-based home automation networks.
