  • In the past few years, data leakage of information assets has become a prominent social issue. According to the National Industrial Security Center in South Korea, 71 percent who suffer from technology leakage are small and medium sized enterprises. Hence, establishment and operation of ISMS (Information Security Management System) for small and medium sized enterprises become an important issue. • Although more than 99% of all Korean companies are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which accounts for a large part of the national economy, they are having difficulties in securing information protection capabilities due to problems such as budget and manpower. On the other hand, as 97% of cyber incidents are concentrated in SMEs, it is urgent to strengthen the information protection management and response capabilities of SMEs. Although the government is promoting company-wide information security consulting for SMEs, the need for supplementing it's procedures and consulting items is being raised. Based on the results of information security consulting supported by the government in 2020, this study attempted to derive improvement plans by interviewing SME workers, information security consultants, and system operators. Through the research results, it is expected to create a basis for SMEs to autonomously check the information security management system and contribute to the reference of related policies.

We looked at how the quantitative and qualitative value of patent rights affect management performance of company. We used 'the number of patents' as the quantitative value of patents, 'the average score of patents' as the qualitative value of patents, and the average sales growth rate as the management performance of company. Through a discriminant analysis using the statistical program SPSS, both independent variables used in this study were significant for distinguishing between companies with an average growth in sales more than twice that of general small and medium-sized enterprises and those with less than twice the average sales growth rate. Therefore it is meaningful to provide stakeholders with an analysis framework on how sales will change in the future using the results of this study during guarantee or loan screening for small and medium-sized enterprises with patent rights.

  • Since the six sigma strategy was first introduced to Korean enterprises in 1997, it has been taken as an important business strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of major Korean companies under the global competitive environment. These major companies also demand their suppliers to implement six sigma. But small and medium sized companies have several barriers to overcome for successful implementation of six sigma. First, the financial status is not so sound to support initial expenses for launching six sigma. Second, physical and human resources are not sufficient for driving six sigma. And finally, the infrastructure is not well established to manage and support the six sigma program. In this paper, we suggest a method to overcome these barriers and propose a model for establishing six sigma in a small and medium sized company. We also provide some practical case studies.
