EXPANDING THE GLOBAL CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH BUSINESS CONVERGENCE

  • Construction firms have long sought success in the global construction market through diversifying revenue sources and project portfolios. The volume of international contracts has contributed to firms' sustained growth by mitigating the impact of the domestic market's cyclical nature. In spite of the importance of international construction, the uncertainty and dynamic changes surrounding global construction pose serious threats to global contactors. Over the last decade, the international construction industry has changed drastically in many ways, particularly including financial resource diversity, competition rules for the selection of contractors, and the terms of delivery systems requiring more competent total service providers. This paper investigates the important changes for global contractors through various documentation analysis as well as in-depth interviews with industry experts. This paper then analyzes the common strategies and lessons obtained from the cases of leading global contractors that have sustained their growth in the competitive global construction during the last decade. In addition, the authors further analyzed the comparisons between those firms and Korean contractors to discern any difference in sustaining their growth in the competitive market. It was found that those leading firms were quite proactive and responsive to changing markets by diversifying their market revenues to stabilize their revenue structure and enhancing their competency through a wide range of 'business convergence'. In addition, they significantly increased their upstream/downstream functional capabilities; hence becoming more competent service providers, able to grow in these rapidly changing market conditions. Finally, this paper benchmarks the critical strategies that support growth, which in turn can provide a strategic guideline for expansion into the global construction market.

공공건설공사 표준시장단가 적용 파급효과 분석 (Ripple Effect Analysis of Construction Standard Unit Price in Public Construction)

  • 「Act On Contracts To Which The State Is A Party」 stipulates that the "Construction Standard Production Rate" and "Construction Standard Unit Price" be used as the criteria for determining the estimated price of construction works performed by public institutions. In this regard, issues such as the application scope of the Construction Standard Unit Price, and the effect of budget reduction continue. However, due to the lack of quantitative data on the actual application of Construction Standard Unit Price, it is difficult to objectively evaluate various issues. In order to prepare data for objective evaluation of the Construction Standard Unit Price, this study analyzed the ripple effect of applying the Construction Standard Unit Price based on the bill of quantity. As a result of the analysis, the Construction Standard Unit Price ripple effect in the civil engineering part was 9.2%, and it was analyzed that there was a ripple effect of about 1.9% based on the civil engineering direct cost. In the construction part, the ripple effect was analyzed to be relatively high at 17%, but it was found to have a ripple effect of about 3% in the construction direct cost. Based on the total direct cost, the ripple effect was calculated as 2.2%. Based on the analysis results, it is possible to evaluate the effect of applying the Standard Market Unit Price, and it is expected to be used as basic data to solve issues. As a future study, it is necessary to additionally analyze the ripple effect by Standard Market Unit Price application range (over 10 billion, over 20 billion won, etc.) and delivery system type (comprehensive evaluation, qualification examination, technical bidding, etc.). In addition, it is necessary to study the appropriate ripple effect of the Standard Market Unit Price.

스트럿 부재와 융합단면을 이용한 기둥-보 강결 구조물 해석 (Analysis of Beam-column Joints in a Structure using Strut Members and Composite Section)

  • The composition of convergence cross-section of the material is a technique that provides reasonable design and construction of structures. It is frequently used in medium-sized bridges and architectural structures. However, the structural behavioral spare capacity enhancement of the structure by the application of the convergence cross-section is still limited by the expandability due to the limiting state of each material. In order to overcome these limitations, this study reasonably analyzed the construction stages before and after the convergence cross-section constructed and developed a technique for forming multi-point boundary conditions using struts, which are compression members. Based on the existing cases, a reasonable construction step for forming the material composite section of the entire structural system of the structure was derived, and a numerical analysis model for a specific part was constructed to analyze the behavior of the strut application. As a result of this study, the effect of reducing the sectional force of 7.40% in beam-column joint and 6.31% in the center of girder was derived, and the deflection, which is a measure of the serviceability of the structure, improved by 54.41% from the installation and dismantling of strut members at each construction stage.

인공지능융합교육실 구축에 관한 기초연구 (Basic Study on the Establishment of AI Convergence Education Room)

  • 본 논문에서는 인공지능융합교육실 구축과 관련하여 교육부 및 시·도교육청의 정보교육 추진계획을 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 적합한 구축 방향을 제언하였다. 연구를 위해 교육부, 한국교육학술정보원, 한국과학창의재단의 정보교육 추진계획, 인공지능교육 선도학교 운영계획, 학교별 인공지능교육 선도학교 운영계획의 교실 공간구축 계획여부, 1교당 예산 금액, 구축 교실 수, 자체 예산 투입 여부 등을 분석하였다. SW교육 및 인공지능 융합교육 추진을 위해 교육부에서 다양한 노력을 기울이고 있으나, 전국 초중고 학교 수에 비하면 크게 부족한 수치인 것으로 나타났다. 정부 차원에서의 정보교육실 확충을 위한 노력이 지속적으로 요구되며, 개발된 인공지능융합교육실 활용을 위해서는 구축공간 모델에 대한 교수·학습 사례가 풍부하게 제공될 필요가 있다. 또한, 구축된 공간을 적절히 사용할 수 있도록 학교 차원의 계획 및 실행이 후속되어야 하며 기자재에 대한 관리와 유지보수 계획이 필요하다.

철근콘크리트 암거의 형상 최적화 (Shape Optimization for Reinforced Concrete Culvert)

  • In this paper, the shape optimization is considered over the upper slab of reinforced concrete culvert. The sequential linear programming method (SLP) is used as a rational approach to this shape optimization. To make a comparison between the arch shaped member and the straight member for the upper slab, the culverts with 5~20m earth height were adopted. It is shown that the optimum rise/span is about 7%-13%, and the arch shaped member is more cheap (over 10%) than the straight member for the construction cost.

내진제약조건(耐震制約條件)을 갖는 옹벽(擁壁)의 최적설계(最適設計) (Optimum Design of Retaining Wall with Seismic Constraints)

  • In this paper, optimum design is considered over the retaining wall with seismic constraints. The sequential linear programming method(SLP) is used as a rational approach to this optimum design. To make a comparison between the seismic design and the normal design, retaining wall with 4~7m height were adopted. It is shown that the seismic design is more expensive (over 30%) than the normal design for the construction cost.

도로건설사업의 생애주기별 정보를 이용한 건설사업정보 통합관리방안 연구 (A Study on Project Information Integrated Management Measures Using Life Cycle Information in Road Construction Projects)

  • 건설공사는 기획-설계-시공-유지관리 등 생애주기에 따라 다양한 많은 정보를 발생시킨다. 도로 등 SOC 공공건설공사는 최소 5년에서 10년이상 기간동안 공사가 이루어짐으로서 공정·공사비 등 사업이력에 대한 정보관리가 중요한 실정이다. 또한, 도로건설사업의 생애주기별 정보 관리를 통해 최초 계획했던 목표대로 공사가 수행되었는지 확인하고 유사공사에 반영할 수 있도록 건설정보의 선순환 구조체계로의 전환이 필요하다. 민간건설공사는 건설사에서 계획부터 준공까지 전반적인 정보관리를 수행하는데 반해, 공공건설사업은 각기 다른 기관 또는 부서에서 업무를 수행함으로서 정보의 통합관리가 어려운 실정이다. 특히, 공공건설 중 일반국도의 경우 건설사업정보시스템에서 건설사업정보를 관리하고 있으나, 세부시스템별로 개별 관리함으로서 정보 단절로 인해 통합적인 모니터링을 할 수 없는 실정이다. 따라서, 본 연구는 일반국도 건설사업의 생애주기별 발생 정보를 종합적으로 관리할 수 있도록 정보 통합관리방안을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 건설관련 정보시스템 현황을 조사하고, 기존 건설사업정보시스템을 분석한 후, 표준화 절차에 따라 용어, 단어, 도메인을 정의하였다. 그 결과, DB 표준화에 따라 세부시스템의 DB를 통합하고 개별 관리되던 사용자정보를 통합하며 디브레인과의 연계를 통해 사업예산 기반의 정보관리가 이루어질 수 있도록 정보시스템을 개선하였다.

  • Recently BIM technology has been expanded for using in construction project. However its spread has been delayed than the initial expectations, due to the high-cost of BIM infrastructure development, the lack of regulations, the lack of process and so forth. In construction site phase, especially the analysis of current research trend about IT technologies, virtualization and BIM service, data exchange such as drawing, 3D model, object data, properties using cloud computing and virtual server system is defined as a most successful solution. The purpose of this study is enable the cloud computing BIM server to provide several main function such as edit a model, 3D model viewer and checker, mark-up, snapshot in high-performance quality by proper design of VDI system. Concurrent client connection performance is a main technical index of VDI. Through test-bed server client, developed VDI system's multi-connect control will be evaluated. The performance-test result of BIM server VDI will effect to development direction of cloud computing BIM service for commercialization.

Tunnel wall convergence prediction using optimized LSTM deep neural network

  • Evaluation and optimization of tunnel wall convergence (TWC) plays a vital role in preventing potential problems during tunnel construction and utilization stage. When convergence occurs at a high rate, it can lead to significant problems such as reducing the advance rate and safety, which in turn increases operating costs. In order to design an effective solution, it is important to accurately predict the degree of TWC; this can reduce the level of concern and have a positive effect on the design. With the development of soft computing methods, the use of deep learning algorithms and neural networks in tunnel construction has expanded in recent years. The current study aims to employ the long-short-term memory (LSTM) deep neural network predictor model to predict the TWC, based on 550 data points of observed parameters developed by collecting required data from different tunnelling projects. Among the data collected during the pre-construction and construction phases of the project, 80% is randomly used to train the model and the rest is used to test the model. Several loss functions including root mean square error (RMSE) and coefficient of determination (R2) were used to assess the performance and precision of the applied method. The results of the proposed models indicate an acceptable and reliable accuracy. In fact, the results show that the predicted values are in good agreement with the observed actual data. The proposed model can be considered for use in similar ground and tunneling conditions. It is important to note that this work has the potential to reduce the tunneling uncertainties significantly and make deep learning a valuable tool for planning tunnels.

Hadoop을 이용한 R-트리의 효율적인 병렬 구축 기법 (An Efficient Parallel Construction Scheme of An R-Tree using Hadoop)

  • Bulk-loading an R-tree can be a good approach to build an efficient one. However, it takes a lot of time to bulk-load an R-tree for huge amount of data. In this paper, we propose a parallel R-tree construction scheme based on a Hadoop framework. The proposed scheme divides the data set into a number of partitions for which local R-trees are built in parallel via Map-Reduce operations. Then the local R-trees are merged into an global R-tree that covers the whole data set. While generating the partitions, it considers the spatial distribution of the data into account so that each partition has nearly equal amounts of data. Therefore, the proposed scheme gives an efficient index structure while reducing the construction time. Experimental tests show that the proposed scheme builds an R-tree more efficiently than the existing approaches.
