Concentrically Braced Frames (CBFs) are commonly used in the construction of steel structures because of their ease of implementation, rigidity, low lateral displacement, and cost-effectiveness. However, the principal disadvantage of this kind of braced frame is the inability to provide deformation capacity (ductility) and buckling of bracing elements before yielding. This paper aims to present a novel Composite Buckling Restrained Fuse (CBRF) to be utilized as a bracing segment in concentrically braced frames that allows higher ductility and removes premature buckling. The proposed CBRF with relatively small dimensions is an enhancement on the Reduced Length Buckling Restrained Braces (RL-BRBs), consists of steel core and additional tensile elements embedded in a concrete encasement. Employing tensile elements in this composite fuse with a new configuration enhances the energy dissipation efficiency and removes the tensile strength limitations that exist in bracing elements that contain RL-BRBs. Here, the optimal length of the CBRF is computed by considering the anticipated strain demand and the low-cyclic fatigue life of the core under standard loading protocol. An experimental program is conducted to explore the seismic behavior of the suggested CBRF compare with an RL-BRB specimen under gradually increased cyclic loading. Moreover, Hysteretic responses of the specimens are evaluated to calculate the design parameters such as energy dissipation potential, strength adjustment factors, and equivalent viscous damping. The findings show that the suggested fuse possess a ductile behavior with high energy absorption and sufficient resistance and a reasonably stable hysteresis response under compression and tension.

The model was developed by applying the principles of Bacot and Vidal to measure the behavior of deformation of the reinforced earth wall, and various tasts were performed by using the plastic fabric filter and the galvanized steel plate as a strip. The results obtained are as follows; 1. When the reinforced earth wall is deformed by the load, the strip is completely reinforced by the backfill materials and changed to the rigid block state, under the state of failure which permits sliding only, the next theoretical equation is formed. (H/L) . tan$\theta$ [cosO-sinOtanO] =2sinO[tan($\theta$ +0) +tanO] 2.The degree of the mutual reinforcement of the backfill material and the strip depend on the physical characteristics of the each material especially the angle of shearing resistance of the backfill material is desirable over 20$^{\circ}$ and, if it is over 400, its function could be a maximum. 3.The distribution of the maximum tensile strain of the reinforcement is changing with the height of reinforced earth wall, and when the height from bottom of the reinforced earth wall is 1.85 to 3. 35m, the maximum tensile strain appears at 2m from the skin element. The maximum tensile strain is increased by the depth of the reinforced earth wall from surface, and increased with the lapse of time after construction. 4.The failure surface of the reinforced earth wall by the concrete skin was about 60$^{\circ}$and the failure behavior of the reinforced earth wall in which the fabric filter was buried was slow, and so the pore pressure could be decreased. 5.It is possible to construct the fabric retained earth wall by the plastic fabric filter only. And the reinforcing effect between the steel plate and the plastic fabric filter is not largely different. however, in the aspect of the economic durability, the plastic fabric filter is more advantageous. 6.The reinforcing action mainly depends on the width and the length of the reinforcing materials, if possible, the full width is advantageous to enlarge the contact area with backfill. but considering the economic aspect, it is neccessary to develop the method controlling the space of the strip.

In recent the construction of bridges having hollow sectional piers is gradually increasing since the hollow section is more effective than solid section in resistance against seismic load. It is, therefore, very important to understand the behavior of columns with hollow sections in seismic design. However, many past researches were concentrated only on the flexural deformability of them. In this study the shear characteristics of them have been studied with scale model tests. 7 models having different void and aspect ratios were designed and tested to investigate the effect of them on shear capacities. And then the validity of empirical equations to predict shear capacity was investigated compared with the test results. The test result 80 percent of the valid area of cross section should be adequate. And compared to the proposed four model the experimental shear capacities are in good agreement with the UCB.
Piping is one of the most frequently occurring collapse type of a levee, and is often caused by roofing (backward erosion piping) at the ground-structure interface. Roofing is generally evaluated using creep ratio. However, creep ratio does not take into account the characteristics of the ground-structure interface. In this study, the roofing risk was investigated by using model test and numerical analysis considering the ground-structure interface characteristics. In the model test, it was confirmed that the piping potential decreased as the interface roughness increased, and this was applied to the numerical analysis. Existing numerical methods can not adequately simulate the particle behavior at the ground-structure interface because only the water level difference is considered. In this paper, particle behavior at the interface was investigated by performing seepage analysis and then, carrying out particle analysis technique simulating the boundary condition of the ground-structure interface. Analysis results have shown that the roofing resistance decreases as the ground-structure interface roughness decreases.
Dynamic and static load tests are conducted in four construction sites by using steel pipe piles(SPP) and concrete piles to compare differences of load bearing mechanism. Steel pipe piles are instrumented with electric strain gages and are subject to dynamic load tests during driving. The damage of strain gages attached is checked simultaneously. Static load test is also conducted on the same piles after two to seven days' elapse. Then load-settlement behavior and shaft and/or tip resistances are measured. As a result, the allowable bearing capacity calculated by the Davisson's offset method of CAPWAP analysis shows 2~33% larger than that of static load test. The average value of allowable bearing capacity of static load test is closer to the allowable capacity obtained at the safety factor of 2.5 applied on ultimate bearing capacity than to the one obtained from the Davisson's offset method. The analysis of strain gage readings shows that unit skin friction increases with depth. Furthermore, the friction mobilized around the 1~2m above the pile tip considerably contributes to the total shaft resistance.
Using pultrusion process, FRP composite structural members having various cross-section shapes can be produced with unlimited lengths. Because of such reasons, these members are suitable for the application in the construction field. Especially, this material is highly appreciated if the material is to be used in the corrosive environments such as aquatic or oceanic environments due to its high corrosion resistance. However, design criteria for the FRP structural member are not developed yet. So, the research on the development of design guideline is needed ungently. In order to use the pultruded structural FRP member efficiently, the members are composed of thin plate components, and thus, the member is prone to buckle easily and the buckling is one of the governing strength limit states for the design. In this paper, we present the analytical study results pertaining to the buckling behavior of I-shape FRP compression member. In addition, design procedure and flow-chart are also proposed based on the study results including previous experimental results. Proposed design procedure is similar to that in ANSI/AISC 360-10 with minor modification. Therefore, it is convinced that the structural design of pultruded FRP compression member could be done easily by following design procedure proposed in this paper.
Due to higher stiffness to weight, higher corrosion resistance, higher strength to weight ratios and good durability, concrete composite structures provide many advantages as compared with conventional materials. Thus, they have wide applications in the field of concrete construction. This research focuses on the structural behavior of steel-tube CFRP confined concrete (STCCC) columns under axial concentric loading. A nonlinear finite element analysis (NLFEA) model of STCCC columns was simulated using ABAQUS which was then, calibrated for different material and geometric models of concrete, steel tube and CFRP material using the experimental results from the literature. The comparative study of the NLFEA predictions and the experimental results indicated that the proposed constitutive NLFEA model can accurately predict the structural performance of STCCC columns. After the calibration of NLFEA model, an extensive parametric study was performed to examine the effects of different critical parameters of composite columns such as; (i) unconfined concrete strength, (ii) number of CFRP layers, (iii) thickness of steel tube and (iv) concrete core diameter, on the axial load capacity. Furthermore, a large database of axial strength of 700 confined concrete compression members was developed from the previous researches to give an analytical model that predicts the ultimate axial strength of composite columns accurately. The comparison of the predictions of the proposed analytical model was done with the predictions of 216 NLFEA models from the parametric study. A close agreement was represented by the predictions of the proposed constitutive NLFEA model and the analytical model.
For the composite behavior of steel tube and inner concrete, the shear connectors should be applied to the CFT structures. However, the present design codes don't provide the design criteria that can be applied on shear connectors in the CFT structures typically filled with plain concrete. This study has been carried out to propose design criteria (shear strength and resistance factor) for the stud shear connectors in CFT structures. Experimental tests using the push-out specimens with the plain concrete blocks and finite element analysis were conducted for the purpose of verifying the main failure mode to propose the shear strength of studs in CFT structures. From the results of this study, the main failure mode of studs in CFT structures is splitting crack of concrete and this failure mode reduces shear strength of studs in CFT structures relatively to those embedded in RC blocks.

This paper presents a new structural system to use as retaining walls. In civil works, there is a general trend to use traditional reinforced concrete (RC) retaining walls to resist soil pressure. Despite their good resistance, RC retaining walls have some disadvantages such as need for huge temporary formworks, high dense reinforcing, low construction speed, etc. In the present work, a composite wall with only one steel plate (steel-concrete) is proposed to address the disadvantages of the RC walls. In the proposed system, steel plate is utilized not only as tensile reinforcement but also as a permanent formwork for the concrete. In order to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed SC composite system, an experimental program that includes nine SC composite wall specimens is developed. In this experimental study, the effects of different parameters such as distance between shear connectors, length of shear connectors, concrete ultimate strength, use of compressive steel plate and compressive steel reinforcement are investigated. In addition, a 3D finite element (FE) model for SC composite walls is proposed using the finite element program ABAQUS and load-displacement curves from FE analyses were compared against results obtained from physical testing. In all cases, the proposed FE model is reasonably accurate to predict the behavior of SC composite walls under out-of-plane loads. Results from experimental work and numerical study show that the SC composite wall system has high strength and ductile behavior under flexural loads. Furthermore, the design equations based on ACI code for calculating out-ofplate flexural and shear strength of SC composite walls are presented and compared to experimental database.
Recently, the natural and man-made slope collapses occur frequently because of sudden heavy rains. So, a variety of slope reinforcement methods have been developed and applied to failure slopes. Soil nailing method usage has been increased because of its workability and economic aspects. This method has been applied in combination with other slope stability methods. Soil nailing method is a kind of combinational structure of steel bar and cement grouting. This method uses skin friction between adjacent ground and cement grouting to stabilize the slope. In this study, End-expanded soil nailing method was developed. This method consists of steel bar and anchor body attached at the tip of the nail. During construction, the anchor body at steel bar tip is settled to the ground through the expanding action. In this study, field pull-out tests were performed for un-grouting soil nailing and grouting soil nailing. From the test results, a wedge force of End-expanded soil nailing method was analyzed. And the behavior characteristics of End-expanded soil nailing were studied.
