A risk management methodology for maritime logistics and supply chain applications

  • In the marine industry although there has been significant growth towards safety, security and risk assessments or risk-based strategies such as marine insurance and regulations to avoid the risks of damage to properties and the environment or the prospect of premature death caused by accidents etc, the moves toward managing the risks which are linked directly to the business functions and decision making processes have been very slow. Furthermore in the marine industry most perceptions, methodologies and frameworks of dealing with hazards, risks, safety and security issues are for their assessment rather than their management. This trend reveals the fact that in different marine industry sectors such as logistics and shipping there is a lack of coherent risk management framework or methodology from which to understand the risk-based decisions especially for the purpose of design, construction, operation, management and even decommissioning of the marine related applications. On the other hand risk management is not yet viewed holistically in the marine industry in order to, for example, assign a right person, i.e. risk manager, who can act as a coordinator and advisor with responsibilities that are only specific to risk management. As a result this paper, by examining the present physical borders and risk-based activities in the marine industry, aims to propose an appropriate risk management methodology in addition to the emergent role of risk managers which will enable the industry users initially to become familiar with the concept of risk management at its holistic level. In the later stages this eventually can lead to development of risk management capabilities at an exclusive level and its integration into the marine industry functions in future.

Investigation of Key Factors to measure on-site Performance of a Construction firm

  • The performance of projects has always been an area of interest in the construction industry. Roles of all construction supply chain partners are necessary; however the role of a contractor firm in the construction project is pivotal. So, this research intended to explore a Construction Firm's performance criteria which could measure the level of performance of that firm in an ongoing project. Data was collected from construction professionals working in three principal project participant organizations, namely Owner, Consultant and Contractor. A total of 113 nos. of performance measuring items were sorted from literature review and used to collect data. Statistical tools processed by SPSS program was employed to analyze the data. Out of total 113 items, only 65 nos. of variables were found to be acceptable to every population group of this study. Factor analysis revealed 12 key performance predicting factors (KPPF) with 53 predictive indicators. 12 KPPFS with index weight are: work progress and smoothening (9.3%), change order management and work accuracy (9.1%), business relationship building (8.1%), adequacy of construction work procedure (8.6%), quality performance (8.0%), health and site safety adequacy (8.8%), Innovative contractor (8.0%), adequacy of construction site information (6.8%), compliance with contract plan/specification requirements (8.9%), creditworthiness and financial capability (8.3%), intra-agency relationship and responsiveness (7.0%) and resource management (9.2%). These results could be useful to project management body to evaluate performance of its contractor firm on site as well as the contractor itself to assess own performance and its subcontractors on-site.

프로젝트 공급망에서 네트워크 배태성이 협업과 기업성과에 미치는 영향연구 : 2차 협력업체를 중심으로 (A Study on the Effect of Network Embeddedness on Collaboration and Performance in the Project Supply Chain : Focusing on Second-tier Suppliers)

  • EPC 산업군에 속하는 기업들의 주요 업무에 대한 아웃소싱비율이 급격히 높아짐에 따라 프로젝트 공급망의 성격과 협력업체와의 협업구조도 더욱 복잡해져 가고 있다. 1, 2차 또는 그 이하 협력업체의 복잡한 공급망에의 참여는 지속적인 통합노력을 필요로 한다. 본 연구는 2차 협력업체를 중심으로 기업 성과와 거래기업에 대한 관계만족도에 영향을 미치는 선행요인 분석에 초점을 둔다. 네트워크 배태성, 협업, 정보공유 및 신축성 등을 선행요인으로 설정하고, 프로젝트 공급망에의 참여실적이 있는 2차 협력업체들로부터 설문조사를 실시하여 통계적 가설을 검증하였다. 분석결과, 2차 협력업체의 공급망 주도기업과 1차 협력업체와의 협업은 성과와 만족도에 유의한 영향을 미치며, 정보공유와 신축성은 네트워크 배태성과 협업에 긍정적 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 협업에 의한 역량제고는 네트워크 배태성에 의해서도 상당한 영향을 받는다는 결과도 도출하였다.

  • A Study on the Curtain Wall parts that appear to cause problems and to improve information exchange system by applying the model of SOA-based development directions are suggested. Availability of the IT industry than other industries that have closed in the field of construction such as SOA. IT systems for the compatibility of the information being sought may be applied. In the future adoption of SOA and Web service-based approach to information exchange with suppliers and improving the efficiency of information for the construction to cover the entire field of research will be conducted as a SOA system.

  • 건설 물류 차량의 입/출입 관리는 송장(문서)을 중심으로 한 관리 방식에서 바코드와 결합된 송장 또는 차량 관리를 거쳐, RFID 기술을 이용한 관리에 이르기까지 정보 수집을 자동화하기 위한 방향으로 지속적으로 발전을 하고 있다. 하지만 기존의 관리 방식은 송장 또는 차량의 입/출입 정보 관리를 위한 정보 수집에만 초점을 맞추고 있을 뿐, 입/출고 시 관리자에 의해 이루어지는 차량 통제 등에 대한 부분을 간과함으로써 별도의 관리자가 필요한 한계를 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 물류 차량의 진출입 정보 수집 및 물리적 진출입 통제가 가능한 장비 및 시스템을 제안하고, prototype의 장비 개발 및 Lab test를 통해 제안된 장비의 타당성 검증을 실시하였다. 또한 본 연구를 통해 제시된 RFID 안테나와 태그의 선정 및 설치 방법은 입/출입 관리뿐만 아니라, 건설 현장에서 RFID 기술을 적용하는데 다양하게 응용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Front End Planning Tool (FEPT) Based on an Electronic Process Management

  • Research indicates that good front-end planning (FEP) results in the achievement of higher levels of project performance. By facilitating collaboration among stakeholders in diverse locations with the use of workflow-enabled processes, such pressures can be reduced, and the overall process and results of FEP can be improved. With these goals, a front-end planning tool (FEPT) has been developed as support for owners and major contractors who are engaged in front-end planning. This paper presents the new FEPT and describes how it has been used for construction megaprojects in the nuclear power, oil and gas, and mining industries. The paper begins with the definitions related to and an explanation of the general process for implementing and applying the FEPT and then describes and analyzes how the FEPT was applied in case study projects in order to test its validity. The results indicate that the FEPT increases the efficiency and effectiveness of front-end planning for the megaprojects studied and that it has the potential to produce similar results for other megaprojects.

Quantifying Risk Factors on Cost Performance By Characterizing Capital Facility Projects

  • Risk-based estimation has been successfully introduced into the construction industry. By incorporating historical data associated with probability analysis, risk-based estimate is an effective decision support aid in considering whether to launch a particular project. The industry challenges, however, especially related with management issues, such as labor shortage, wage growth, and supply chain complexity, have often resulted in poor cost performance. The insufficient assessing the project characteristics (i.e., resource availability, project complexity, and project delivery method) can be the main reasons in the poor cost performance. Because the accuracy level of cost performance prediction can be enhanced by extensive evaluation of the subject project characteristics, a new approach for predicting cost performance in an earlier stage of a project can improve the Industry substantiality, in other words, value maximization. The purpose of this paper is to develop a new methodology in developing a risk-based estimate tool by incorporating extensive project characteristics. To do this, an extensive industry survey was conducted from both private and public sectors in building industry in Korea. In addition, significant project characteristics were identified in terms of cost performance indicator. Although the data collection is limited to Korean industry the suggested approach provides the industry with a straightforward methodology in risk management. As many researchers maintained that front-end planning efforts are crucial in achieving the successful outcome in building projects, the new method for risk-based estimation can Improve the cost performance as well as enhance the fulfillment in terms of business sustainability.

RFID와 BIM을 활용한 건설 자재 물류 및 진도관리 시뮬레이터 개발 (An RFID and BIM based Simulator for Construction Material Logistics and Progress Management)

  • 건설 프로젝트의 효과적인 물류 및 진도관리를 위하여 다양한 연구 및 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 이중 RFID+4D 기술은 철골, PC, 커튼월과 같은 공장 주문형 자재의 공급망 및 진도관리를 위해 개발된 기술로써 공기 및 비용 절감에 대한 효과가 있는 시스템으로 보고된 바 있다. 하지만 기존의 시스템은 그 효과에 비해 모델링 비용, 실시간 정보 반영의 난이, 시스템 운영을 위한 추가 인력 배치 등의 문제로 인해 시스템 확산이 미비한 상태에 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 기존 RFID+4D 프로세스의 문제를 해결하기 위한 체계 및 제안된 체계를 활용한 웹 기반의 실시간 4D 시뮬레이터를 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 체계 및 시스템은 기존 RFID+4D 프로세스 운영의 비용 및 정보 활용성을 향상시킴으로써 기술 확산에 기여할 것으로 기대되며 특히 최근 이슈화되고 있는 BIM 정보와의 연계를 통해 설계 단계에서 생성된 BIM을 시공 단계에서 활용하기 위한 방법으로 활용 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

  • Warehouse Management System was a helper of business in past, but it is perceived as a core competitive power and a tool for generating new business. It have been come out some new prospects for WMS due to generalization of global outsourcing and extension of the range of supply chain. In China, H automobile company construct the new WMS for providing the production extension and increment of part demand for A/S. This paper deals with the location management in warehouse, warehouse management, delivery management of goods from a warehouse, inventory management organizing WMS for construction of A/S warehouse in H motor in China. Then we identified the several problems of existing warehouse and constructed the driving organization and methods for overcoming these problems. We continually gather data for analysing the effects of new A/S warehouse and WMS construction.

캄보디아 건축 사업 진출을 위한 우선적 확보역량분석 (Analysis of Concentrate Competency for Cambodian Building Construction Projects)

  • 우리나라 해외건설 누적 수주 금액은 2012년 6월을 기준으로 5,000억 달러를 달성하였으며 더 나아가 2020년 1조 달러를 목표로 하고 있다. 또한 국내 건설기업들도 해외건설시장 진출을 목적으로 여러 전략을 구상하고 있다. 특히, 해외건설시장 진출을 위해서는 시장에 따른 경쟁력을 가져야 할 것이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 경제 성장과 더불어 정부의 인프라 시설 확충 및 개발 부문의 투자가 증가하고 있는 캄보디아 건축시장의 진출 경쟁력 분석을 연구의 목적으로 한다. 캄보디아 건축시장 진출을 위해 사업유형별 필요 경쟁역량을 IPA기법으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 도급사업에서는 발주정보 및 글로벌 공급역량이 필요한 경쟁역량으로 나타났으며, 투자사업에서는 시장정보, 사업타당성 조사를 포함한 설계이전 단계의 역량 및 글로벌 네트워크가 필요한 경쟁역량으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 우리 건설기업들이 향후 캄보디아 건축시장 진출 시 필요한 기초자료로 활용되기를 기대한다.
