  • Service Oriented Architecture(SOA) is an enterprise-scale IT architecture for linking software resources available on the network. SOA is believed to become the future enterprise solution that promises the agility and flexibility by integrating business processes through composition of the software services across enterprises. The first step for SOA construction is to identify the services. In this paper, we present a process-based service identification methodology for SOA through a case study of an IT company. Our methodology is composed of three steps: Processes (business & technical processes) analysis and systems analysis, Service candidates selection, and Service evaluation and construction planning. This framework would be practical and could be accepted to other organizations as it has been developed through the real case.

  • Management of today's dynamic projects requires a shift of focus from product to process. The purpose of traditional project controls is to conform performance to plan. The purpose of lean project controls is to make the best possible choices at each point in time during the course of the project, as well as contributing knowledge to the parent organizations so they can learn from project experience. The Lean Construction Institute(LCI) proposed the Last Planner System(LPS) capable of accomplishing that purpose, principally through controlling the quality of planning and of management processes themselves, as distinct from concentrating exclusively on project performance. The case project was a pilot project for the implementation of the Last Planner. Consequently, the coordination of the work on this project was extremely successful. The project had its share of challenges. The coordination did not prevent design problems, or supplier errors, but helped the team deal with the problems effectively while maintaining the work flow. The last planner helped the contractors know: a) who will be doing what and where, b) what each one needs from the others, and c) what are the project priorities. The system itself created a more collaborative environment, because it 'demands' that the subcontractors address these issues.

  • Recently many organizations have attempted to build hypermedia systems to expand their working areas to internet-based virtual work places. It is thus important to manage corporate hypermedia documents effectively. Metadata play a critical role for managing these documents. This paper identifies metadata roles and components to build its schema. Furthermore a meta-information system HyDoMiS(Hyperdocument Meta-information System) is proposed by the use of this metadata schema. HyDoMiS performs three functions metadata management search and reporting The metadata management function is concerned with workflow document and database. The system is more likely to help implement and maintsain hypermedia information system effectively.

  • Interface control activities during the nuclear power plant (NPP) construction and operation have been reviewed for enhancing the safety of NPP. The primary focus of the study is given on analysis of lessons learned from the recent significant events of Korean Standard Nuclear Power plant (KSNP), such as a series of break-off of thermal sleeves at YGN 5 & 6 and radioactivity leak at YGN 5, in respect of interface control. Based on the results of the analysis, this study recommends measures for the improvement of interface control among utility and technical supporting organizations (TSO), and suggests new regulatory systems, such as reporting of safety significant non-conformances, to effectively verify the adequacy of interface control activities during construction and operation of NPPs.

  • In order to maintain the existence of a university in the era of infinite competition, it is actively promoting the establishment of a school dormitory, one of the welfare facilities, as a way to attract students who want to enter the university. In the past, university dormitories were built by the university and managed and operated on themselves, but recently, due to the poor financial situation of the university, university dormitories promoted BTL method that private construction company built dormitories and rented them for a certain period of time to manage and operate. J University has dormitories managed and operated by itself and dormitories managed and operated by entrusting the private sector. User satisfaction surveys are conducted on two dormitory facilities with different management and operation organizations, and the contents of the survey are compared and analyzed. This study is expected to be used as basic data when planning a dormitory remodeling project or a new dormitory establishment project in the future.

  • In Korea, there are increasing concerns on nuclear manpower demand and supply due to construction of domestic nuclear power plants and exporting nuclear power plant. In addition, aging of nuclear manpower is another important concern for stable nuclear manpower demand and supply. A shortage of skilled high-quality human resources resulted in massive retirements of senior workers may seriously undermine Korean nuclear competitiveness. This paper analyzed current state of aging of nuclear manpower based on statistical analysis on Korean nuclear organizations. The data used in this paper is manpower statistics of domestic nuclear organizations surveyed in 2001 and 2010. This paper analyzed trends of manpower change for 10 years and based on these analyses, has reviewed the level of the aging nuclear manpower by surveyed organization and integrated. Finally, this paper suggested to direction of manpower recruitment to cope with aging nuclear manpower and alternatives to find a solution to problems of nuclear manpower demand and supply.

  • Todays, the more information technologies(IT) like internet is developed, the more main facilities of individuals and social organizations get deeply involved in IT. Also, the trend of cyber threats such as internet worms and viruses is moving from local pc attacks to IT infrastructure attacks by exploiting inherent vulnerabilities of IT. Social organizations has a limit to response these attacks individually, and so the systematic coordinate center for social organizations is necessary. To analyze and share cyber threat information is performed prior to the construction of the coordinate center. In this paper, we survey domestic alert systems for cyber threats of related organizations and companies, and then classify them into two categories by the range of threat assessment: global alert systems for global If infrastructure and individual alert systems for each threat. Next, we identify problems of domestic alert systems and suggest approaches to resolve them.

  • In this paper, changes of railway-related organization during the Japanese colonial period were studied indepth. The railway-related organizations were expanded from the Railway Management Bureau in 1906 (Residency-General). In 1910, this bureau changed to the General of Chosun Railway Bureau (Government-General) and the Chosun Railway Bureau (Government-General). In the 1940's, it developed into an organization called the Transport Bureau, dealing with the whole transport service. The number of employees in the railway sector increased along with the expansion of the organization and the establishment of a training institution for better recruitment. After examining the period of the construction of railway and connection system, which is deeply related to the railway organizations of the Japanese colonial period, this paper analyzes the transformation process of railway-related laws and organizations. Furthermore, this paper finds common characteristics and differences between railways in a comparison of three countries: Chosun, Japan and Taiwan.

  • The use of social media to disseminate news and interact with project stakeholders is increasing over time in the construction industry. Such social media data can be analyzed to get useful insights of the industry such as demands of new housing construction and satisfaction of construction workers. However, there has been a limited attempts to analyze social media data related to the construction industry. The objective of this study is to collect and analyze construction related tweets to understand the overall sentiments of individuals and organizations about the construction industry. The study collected 87,244 tweets from April 6, 2020, to April 13, 2020, which had hashtags relevant to the construction industry. The tweets were then analyzed to evaluate its sentiments polarity (positive or negative) and sentiment intensity or scores (-1 to +1). Descriptive statistics were produced for the tweets and the sentiment scores were visualized in a scatterplot to show the trend of the sentiment scores over time. The results shows that the overall sentiment score of all the tweets was slightly positive (0.0365). Negative tweets were retweeted and marked as favorite by more users on average than the positive ones. More specifically, the tweets with negative sentiments were retweeted by 2,802 users on average compared to the tweets with positive sentiments (247 average retweet count). This study can potentially be expanded in the future to produce a real time indicator of the construction market industry such as the increased availability of construction jobs, improved wage rates, and recession.
