  • Construction industry is an important key industry and many measures to revitalize it as local economy has been stagnant. However, construction industry works combined with governmental policies, global and local economies, populations, construction companies and many other related factors, and it is very hard for those counter-plans to meet every need and goal of the related. In this study, interviews and questionnaires of the professionals of the construction industry in Busan, were carried out, to find the cause of the inactivity of the construction market, the problems of the policies and regulations, and the problems of the construction companies in Busan and the solutions were suggested. The realistic master-plans and the reduction of the cost price for the problems of the redevelopment business having no feasibility, the reasonable relaxation of the restrictions for the problems of the governmental policies, the professional training and education for the lack of the high-quality human resources and the working system changes for the problems of the local construction companies turned out as results. The results of the study will be a chance to understand the different ideas of the professionals, and help with the plans to improve and to revitalize the local construction industry. The results of the study will be a chance to understand the different ideas of the professionals, and help with the plans to improve and to revitalize the local construction industry.

  • Since Jan. 2004, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation has partly introduced estimation system of historical cost data in order to reflect result cost of construction market to cost estimation for public construction. It is expected that the purpose of the introduction would be evaluated considering the long-term development of domestic construction industry. In article 3, paragraph 4 of the planning criteria of estimated cost of financial regulation related to government contract rule, the profit estimated by historical cost data indicates sales profit and it is calculated by multiplying the sum of direct cost, indirect cost and general overhead by rate of profit. Finally, it is said that rate of profit cannot exceeds 10%. However, there are a lot of constructions for electronic equipment in the electronic construction and the proportion of government furnished material is very high, not like engineering works or constructions. Therefore, as the proportion of material cost over direct cost is relatively lower, if current rate of profit (10%) is applied, there would be a wide difference of cost in the items of profit under the estimation system of historical cost data. This paper was conducted to examine estimation methods of the items of profit under the estimation system of historical cost data and suggest reasonable applications.

  • In construction industry, management of construction factors such as cost, schedule, quality and safety is the most important key for delivering successful projects. According to the Smart Market Report, a magazine specialized in construction industry, recently said 'Off-site Prefabrication' is a significant trend related with construction productivity in global construction industry. It is a kind of practice shift from On-site to Off-site. A lot of general contractors in oversea have been using 'Multi-trade MEP Ceiling Rack Prefabrication' method for getting benefits such as decreased cost & schedule and increased labor productivity. Thus, in this paper, critical management factors at each phase from design to installation was derived by researching case studies. Forwardly, it can be a basic guideline for applying Multi-trade MEP Ceiling Rack Prefabrication in Korea construction industry.

  • In Singapore, the construction industry's performance in safety has often been the worst among the other industries. This paper seeks to compare the efforts of the shipbuilding and repair industry and the construction industry in improving the level of safety performance. One key factor identified in the paper will be the subcontractors' role in the safety aspect. Based on the analysis of statistic carried out by the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore and many others, this paper aims to identify the success of the shipbuilding and repair industry and gives thought as to how the construction industry can further improve its safety record.

  • Accompanied by Chinese strong economic growth rates and development of demand for the construction industry, Chinese construction industry has already become one of the largest construction markets in the world. Unfortunately, the frequent occurrence of safety incidents on Chinese construction sites is a large obstacle for other countries construction companies seeking to enter the Chinese construction market. This study aims to analyze and compare the safety awareness of Chinese and Korean construction workers. Our research showed that the safety awareness of Korean construction workers is far higher than that of their Chinese counterparts, particularly in terms of the efficiency of safety education and the observance of safety rules. The development of a safety management plan based on these results will contribute to reducing the frequency of accidents on Chinese construction sites.

  • This study was conducted to present the improvement in professional perception among construction workers engaged in domestic construction sites by analyzing the reality of their professional perception. The results are as follows: First, with regard to professional perception of the construction industry, managerial workers made their positive reply to items regarding construction and construction workers but had their negative attitude towards construction as a job and as a recommendable job for others; whereas production workers showed their negative reply to all the items. Second, with respect to factors for construction being firmly regarded as an 3D industry, managerial workers selected 'long working hours' and production workers replied with 'low wages and income insecurity.' Third, as for improvement activities for professional perception of construction, most of construction workers simply knew about activities being performed but expressed their intention to participate in the activities.

  • As the construction industry has been increasingly complex, aging workers, hard-working avoiding young generation, foreign workers having language problem for the past decades, delivering of construction qualified workers has been a rising problem. This misalignment between the complex jobs and the number of skilled workers will continue to be in issue that the construction industry will face for following decades. Construction field workers who are working outside in uncontrollable condition unlike manufacturing industry are exposed to easily construction safety accident. There are so many efforts to prevent and control the construction accident. However, the relationships between the construction works and construction safety accident has not been well dealt and investigated based on objective accident data except for the qualitative study through interview, delphi and so on. Therefore this study analyzes job risk matrix exposed to safety accidents based on statistic data for 20 years from Korean Occupational Safety & Health Agency in order to prevent the construction field accidents.

  • With the recent advancement of the construction industry, interest in it is growing as the accident rate in the construction industry continues to increase due to the enlargement and complexity of the construction scale. These social issues are focused on the safety of construction work, and research on construction industrial accidents is continuously being conducted, but research on measures to reduce construction industrial accidents is surprisingly insufficient. Therefore, in this study, research on reduction measures to increase the safety of construction industrial accidents conducted for 5 years from 2017 to 2021 is investigated and compared, and it is intended to be used as basic data for future construction industrial accident reduction measures.

  • The construction industries are facing problems of productivity, quality of work, safety, and the completion of projects in time. In construction industry a worker is exposed to hazardous environment, and has to do more physical work, effecting his health and also productivity. The automation and robotics can offer solution to many problems of the industry. In the past the major barrier to construction automation is the lack of electronic components and systems. This is solved now with the development of information technology, and the current obstacle is the high cost of automated systems, shortage of public money for R&D, and problems of acceptance. The robots employed in construction have followed the same concept as those employed in manufacturing. However, construction industry requires a different kind of robot compared to manufacturing Industry. The robots are stationery and product moves along the assembly line in manufacturing sector, but construction robots have to move about the site because buildings are stationary and of large size. The construction robots must function in adverse weather conditions, including variation in humidity, and temperature and increase the overall construction productivity rate. The major objective of the paper is to review the existing applications of building robots and to assess their implementation in building industry. A case study is considered for the implementation of robots for the painting work of the University Building at Saifabad PG College of Science, Hyderabad, India.
