  • In this study, the Impact resistance of steel fiber and organic fiber reinforced concrete and mortar was evaluated and the improvement in toughness resulting from an increase in compressive strength and mixing fiber for impact resistance on performance was examined. The types of fiber were steel fiber, PP and PVA, and these were mixed in at 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 vol.%, respectively. Impact resistance is evaluated with an apparatus for testing impact resistance performance by high-speed projectile crash by gas-pressure. For the experimental conditions, Specimen size was $100{\times}100{\times}20$, 30mm ($width{\times}height{\times}thickness$). Projectile diameter was 7 and 10 mm and impact speed is 350m/s. After impact test, destruction grade, penetration depth, spalling thickness and crater area were evaluated. Through this evaluation, it was found that as compressive strength is increased, penetration is suppressed. In addition, as the mixing ratio of fiber is increased, the spalling thickness and crater area are suppressed. Organic fibers have lower density than the steel fiber, and population number per unit area is bigger. As a result, the improvement of impact resistance is more significant thanks to dispersion and degraded attachment performance.

  • This paper is to grasp the use of impact-echo response signal induced from impacting an object for the assessment of compressive strength of construction materials nondestructively and to propose the test results. For this study, an impact device was devised and used for impacting an object by an initial rotating free falling impact and following repetitive impacts from the rebound action which eventually disappears. Concrete test specimens which had been mixed for different strengths were tested and the impact echo response signal was measured for each test specimen. The total sound signal energy which is assessed from integrating the impact-echo response signal was compared with the directly measured compressive strength for each specimen. The comparison showed that the total sound signal energy has a direct relationship with the directly measured compressive strength and the results clearly indicated that the compressive strength of construction materials can be assessed nondestructively using total sound signal energy which is assessed from integrating the impact-echo response signal induced from impacting an object.

  • Noise and vibration occurs during construction intermittently, but with the most arise complaints. There is a need to efficiently manage the construction noise and vibration problems because in case a residential facility that requires calmness around the construction site adversely affects the living conditions of nearby residents. The ministry of environment has mandating the installation of soundproofing facilities for the management of construction noise. In order to enforce a particular construction, the mandatory install with soundproofing facilities before the start of construction, and after construction. However, Installation guide of soundproofing facilities for construction sites were not considered affected areas by noise and there is no provision of performance evaluation for soundproofing facilities. In this study, investigated the status and problems of the installation guide for soundproofing facilities in construction sites, we propose an efficient installation guide of soundproofing facilities for the reduction construction noise.

  • Public construction projects have a significant impact on the local residents' economy and social lives due to their large scale and construction costs. If residents suffer losses and damages from public construction projects, it can lead to complaints, which can negatively affect to the projects, such as cost overrun and schedule delay. Therefore, the managerial efforts should be made to minimize these complaints. The purpose of this study is to analyze the complaints associated with construction projects based on their characteristics and assess the impact of complaints on the projects, aiming to minimize the complaints arising from construction projects. This study is conducted in three steps: 1) extracting the complaints' information from the existing construction projects, 2) analyzing the complaints based on projects characteristics using post-evaluation data, and 3) analyzing how the complaints are actually handled. Through this study, it is possible to understand the characteristics of complaints in actual public construction projects in Korea.

  • This paper presents a novel method to predict a flushing rate in an embayment system, which can be utilized to assess an environmental impact caused by harbor construction. The method was successfully applied to the Ulsan-Onsan coastal area. The flushing rate was computed on the basis of water quality changes predicted by US Army Corps of Engineers' RMA-2/RMA-4 models. After calibration and verification to the measured tidal elevation and current velocity, the model was used to estimate the flushing rate in the proposed harbor. The water quality was simulated for 96 hours and the flushing rate was computed. The results indicated that the proposed harbor would significantly reduce the flushing rate in the Onsan harbor, especially at the small embayment area near the south breakwater. The flushing rate was evaluated for several alternatives, of which the tidal flow channel of 1,000 $m^2$ in the south pier appeared to be the best mitigation measure. This study proposes that the prediction of flushing rate would be a novel method to assess a water quality impact caused by harbor construction.

  • The use of non-bearing light weight wall has increased recently due to the increase of high-rise buildings and supply of long-life housing. Light weight wall has advantages such as reducing the self-weight of the building, convenience in installation, and shortening construction period, however, must have a sufficient strength to external force. This study standardized the impact resistance test method for light weight walls by using the actual impact load obtained through load analysis test in previous studies. The impact resistance test method was divided into the test method that uses soft body and the one that uses hard body. The size of specimen was set up as height 2.4m and width 3.0m. The size and shape of the body followed those used in BS 5234-2 and so on for the compatibility with the test method used overseas. The judgment criteria for impact resistance based on test results were not defined uniformly as the assessment of functional damage can vary depending on the type of material, structural method, purpose of wall, and so on even when the same impact load was applied.

  • Recently, construction industry demands have been changed by domestic construction circumstances such as high-technology, mega-projects, and the complexity of construction. In order to deal with the change of such a domestic construction circumstances, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT) has introduced advanced delivery methods. However, the advantages and disadvantages of the advanced delivery methods have not been effectively applied for previous projects. The reason for this is that the "Reviewing Standard for the Large-scale Construction Bidding Method" has not reflected enough prcject characteristics when the delivery method is selected in the project planning phase. Therefore, this paper proposes the Analysis on the Impact Factors of Delivery Method for Multi-Family Housing Projects.
