Brake squeal noise has been a problem since the early days of motoring . It is important to obtain vibration mode shape for reduction of brake noise . Stroboscopic Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry is a very powerful measuring method for study of vibrating objects in static state compared with conventional methods because this method can give both resonance frequency and quantitative visualization of vibration mode shape at the same time. In this paper, we performed qualitative visualization and quantitative analysis of vibration mode shpae of disk brake by using stroboscopic ESPI and phase shifting method. The stroboscopic wavefronts are obtained by chopping continuous wave laser beam using acousto-optic modulator .Experiments were performed at the same constraint conditions as disk brake of the practical vehicle as far as possible. The experimental results of this paper show quantitative measurement of vibration mode shape and quantiative visualization of vibration amplitude of disk brake with 3D plotting.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the natural frequencies and mode shapes of beam-columns on the non-homogeneous foundaion. The beam model is based on the classical Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. The linear foundation modulus is chosen as the non-homogeneous foundation in this study . The differentidal equation goeverning free vibrations of such beam-columns subjected to axial load is derived and solved numerically for calculting the natural frquencies and mode shapes. In numerical fivekinds of end constraint are considered, and the lowest four natural frquencies and corresponding mode shape are obtained as the non-dimensional forms.
In this paper, a vibration-based method using the change ratios of modal data and the experience-based learning algorithm is presented for quantifying the position, size, and interface layer of delamination in laminated composites. Three types of objective functions are examined and compared, including the ones using frequency changes only, mode shape changes only, and their combination. A fine three-dimensional FE model with constraint equations is utilized to extract modal data. A series of numerical experiments is carried out on an eight-layer quasi-isotropic symmetric (0/-45/45/90)s composited beam for investigating the influence of the objective function, the number of modal data, the noise level, and the optimization algorithms. Numerical results confirm that the frequency-and-mode-shape-changes-based technique yields excellent results in all the three delamination variables of the composites and the addition of mode shape information greatly improves the accuracy of interface layer prediction. Moreover, the EBL outperforms the other three state-of-the-art optimization algorithms for vibration-based delamination detection of composites. A laboratory test on six CFRP beams validates the frequency-and-mode-shape-changes-based technique and confirms again its superiority for delamination detection of composites.
Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) is a powerful tool to measure the vibration mode shape and resonance frequency for modal analysis. As for ESPI this method is very suited for full-field measurement of objects in industrial areas because the interferograms are recorded with a video camera and evaluated in real-time with a computer. In this study We performed experiments at the same constraint conditions as disk brake of the practical vehicle as far as possible and obtained the resonance frequencies and vibration mode shapes by using time-averaged ESPI at once. Finally to assure the expetimental results by time-averaged ESPI we also compare those with results obtained by Laser Doppler Vibrometer and obtained good agreement.
In this paper, analysis and control of the flexible multibody system using MATLAB is presented. The equations of motion of a flexible body are derived in terms of the modal coordinate. The rigid-flexible multibody dynamic solver is developed. Finite element information required to analyze motion of flexible bodies is imported from ANSYS. The modified finite element data, such as modal mass matrix, modal stiffness matrix and constraint mode shapes, is calculated in the solver. Since the solver is developed using MATLAB, it is very easy to connect with SIMULINK which is widely used to control motion of the multibody system. Several simulations are implemented to verify the developed solver. A control example is carried out and the usefulness of the developed solver is demonstrated.
It is known that the reduced integration, modified shape function, anisoparametric and non-conforming element can reduce the error induced by stiffness locking phenomenon in the finite element analysis. In this study, we propose new anisoparametric curved beam element. The new element based on reduced minimization theory is composed of different shape functions in each displacement field. By the substitution of this modified shape function, the unmatched coefficient that cause stiffness locking in the constraint energy is eliminated. To confirm the availability of this new model, we performed numerical tests for a simple model. As a result of numerical test, the undulate stress patterns are disappeared in static analysis, and displacements and stresses are close to exact solution. Not only in the static analysis but also in the eigen analysis of free vibrated curved beam model, this element shows successful convergent results.
This paper deals with free vibrations of the tapered beams with the constant surface area. The surface area of the objective beams are always held constant regardless shape functions of the cross-sectional depth. The shape functions are chosen as the linear and parabolic ones. Ordinary differential equations governing free vibrations of such beams are derived and solved numerically for determining the natural frequencies. In the numerical examples, hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped and clamped-clamped end constraints are considered. As the numerical results, the relationships between non-dimensional frequency parameters and various beam parameters such as section ratio, surface area ratio, end constraint and taper type are reported in tables and figures. Especially, section ratios of the strongest beam are calculated, under which the maximum frequencies are achieved.
A three-dimensional finite element model for the Jiashao Bridge, the longest multi-span cable-stayed bridge in the world, is established using the commercial software package ANSYS. Dynamic characteristics of the bridge are analyzed and the effects of structural system measures including the rigid hinge, auxiliary piers and longitudinal constraints between the girders and side towers on the dynamic properties including modal frequency, mode shape and effective mass are studied by referring to the Jiashao Bridge. The analysis results reveal that: (i) the installation of the rigid hinge significantly reduces the modal frequency of the first symmetric lateral bending mode of bridge deck. Moreover, the rigid hinge significantly changes the mode shape and effective mass of the first symmetric torsional mode of bridge deck; (ii) the layout of the auxiliary piers in the side-spans has a limited effect on changing the modal frequencies, mode shapes and effective masses of global vibration modes; (iii) the employment of the longitudinal constraints significantly increases the modal frequencies of the vertical bending modes and lateral bending modes of bridge deck and have significant effects on changing the mode shapes of vertical bending modes and lateral bending modes of bridge deck. Moreover, the effective mass of the first anti-symmetric vertical bending of bridge deck in the longitudinal direction of the fully floating system is significantly larger than that of the partially constrained system and fully constrained system. The results obtained indicate that the structural system measures of the multi-span cable-stayed bridge have a great effect on the dynamic properties, which deserves special attention for seismic design and wind-resistant design of the multi-span cable-stayed bridge.
When problems occurred in the unstable and/or extreme terrain environment, formal field-driving robots were unable to provide any other options such as the transformation of the wheel and body structure, and so on. For such reason, this paper proposed a novel type of integrated wheel mechanism that can be operated as a conventional driving wheel mode and hybrid wheel-leg mode in order to be negotiated in an unstable terrain environment. The mechanical effect of the proposed variable wheel mechanism was analyzed considering the geometric constraint and power requirement of the actuator for the transformation. In addition, we designed and manufactured the prototype of field-driving robot, which reliably control the variable wheel shape. Finally, the effectiveness of the variable wheel mechanism was verified by preliminary experimental approach.
In this paper, new topology optimization technique is proposed. It mainly uses the strain energy distributions induced by the mode shapes associated with natural frequencies of the structure and so we can implicitly consider the dynamic characteristics of the structure in the topology optimization process. The strain energy to be minimized is employed as the objective function and the initial volume of structures is adopted as the constraint function. The resizing algorithm devised from the optimality criteria method is used to update the hole size of the cell existing in each finite element. The cantilever beam problem is adopted to test the proposed techniques. From numerical test, it is found to be that the optimum topology of the cantilever produced by the proposed technique has a hugh increase of natural frequency value and the technique is very effective to maximize the fundamental frequency of the structure.
