  • We present a two dimensional linear programming knapsack problem with the extended GUB constraint. The presented problem is an extension of the cardinality constrained linear programming knapsack problem. We identify some new properties of the problem and derive a solution algorithm based on the parametric analysis for the knapsack right-hand-side. The solution algorithm has a worst case time complexity of order O($n^2logn$). A numerical example is given.

  • There are observational difficulties determining dynamical masses of binary star components in the upper HR diagram both due to the scarcity of massive binary systems and spectral and photometric contamination produced by the strong wind outflows in these systems. We discuss how variable X-ray emission in these systems produced by wind-wind collisions in massive binaries can be used to constrain the system parameters, with application to two important massive binaries, Eta Carinae and WR 140.

  • Quasars at cosmological distances can be gravitationally lensed by galaxies into two or more images. The probability of this lensing and the angular separation between the images depend on the geometry and the expansion history of the universe as well as the lensing galaxies. The time delay between lensed images is also a direct indicator of the size of the universe. I review these cosmological applications of multiple-image gravitationally lensed quasars to determine or constrain the cosmological parameters.

  • This note considers the class of controllers with integral action which arise directly from appropriate system models. Via internal model principle approach, a corresponding class of self-tuning controller is shown to have both integral action in controller and offset removal in the tuning algorithm. The key idea is to constrain the estimator in each step in order to ensure that dc gain of feedforward and feedback polynomial of adaptive controller are always equal, thus allowing the loop integrator to work properly.

  • STEP AP224 includes the information of machining feature and tolerances. Machining features are machined from raw material. Tolerance constrain feasible methods of manufacture, strongly influence the cost of manufacture. And tolerances influence the machining process. We need to decide the precedence between features .tool radius and tool direction for minimum tool changes. This paper deals with the method of decision of precedence between features and process parameters using feature information and tolerances in STEP AP224.

  • A 3-dimentional finite element model for vibration analysis of steam-turbine blade groups is presented, employing the 3-dimentional incompatible brick element with 8 nodes. The skew coordinate system is introduced in the model for considering multi-axis symmetry and specialty of displacement constrain condition of blade groups. Vibration characteristics of blade groups are analyzed, and compared with experimental results.

  • The possibility of detection of deviation from Gaussian distribution of primordial perturbations in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Radiation is very important because it can shed light on how the perturbations were created in the very early universe. We study the effect of the primordal non-Gaussianity on topological observables called Minkowski Functionals, which are functions of the temperature fluctuation field, and show that they carry distinct signatures of different types of non-Gaussianities. Then, we constrain the non-Gaussianity parameters by comparing the theoretical predictions of the Minkowski Functionals with measurements from observational data from WMAP.

  • This paper is dedicated to studying the quantitative analysis method with remote-sensing data in shallow geological structure reconstruction by the example of TM data in western China. A new method of computing attitude of geological contacts from remote-sensing data is developed and assessed. We generate several geological profiles with remotely derived measurements to constrain the shallow geological structure reconstruction in three dimensions.

  • Close examination of previous constraints on bound anaphora that are designed to directly constrain the distribution of referentially dependent(RD) items shows that no universal structural relation may exist that relates RD items to their antecedents. As an alternative to these constraints, this paper proposes an axiom of semantic interpretation, called the Principle of Referential Autonomy, which dispenses with any pretheoretical notion of grammatical functions or configurational notion like c-command. Together with certain English-specific facts, this principle enables us to infer the ungrammaticality of core examples of strong and weak crossover.

  • ZwCL 1447.2+2619 is a merging galaxy cluster at z=0.37 with clear substructures in X-ray emission and galaxy distribution. In addition, the system possesses distinct radio relics. In order to constrain the merger scenario, it is necessary to measure both the distribution and mass of the cluster dark matter. We perform a weak lensing analysis of ZwCL 1447.2+2619 using Subaru imaging data. After carefully addressing instrumental systematics, we detect significant lensing signals. In this talk, our methodology, weak lensing results, and possible merging scenarios will be presented.
