Purpose: In-situ monitoring of water quality is fundamental to most environmental applications. The high cost and long delays of conventional laboratory methods used to determine water quality, including on-site sampling and chemical analysis, have limited their use in efficiently managing water sources while preventing environmental pollution. The objective of this study was to develop an on-site water monitoring system consisting mainly of an Arduino board and a sensor array of multiple ion selective electrodes (ISEs) to measure the concentration of $NO_3$ ions. Methods: The developed system includes a combination of three ISEs, double-junction reference electrode, solution container, sampling system consisting of three pumps and solenoid valves, signal processing circuit, and an Arduino board for data acquisition and system control. Prior to each sample measurement, a two-point normalization method was applied for a sensitivity adjustment followed by an offset adjustment to minimize the potential drift that could occur during continuous measurement and standardize the response of multiple electrodes. To investigate its utility in on-site nitrate monitoring, the prototype was tested in a facility where drinking water was collected from a water supply source. Results: Differences in the electric potentials of the $NO_3$ ISEs between 10 and $100mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$$NO_3$ concentration levels were nearly constant with negative sensitivities of 58 to 62 mV during the period of sample measurement, which is representative of a stable electrode response. The $NO_3$ concentrations determined by the ISEs were almost comparable to those obtained with standard instruments within 15% relative errors. Conclusions: The use of the developed on-site nitrate monitoring system based on automatic sampling and two-point normalization was feasible for detecting abrupt changes in nitrate concentration at various water supply sites, showing a maximum difference of $4.2mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ from an actual concentration of $14mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$.
This study reports the stable carbon and nitrogen isotope of mummy, the preserved human time capsule from Joseon Dynasty. The stable isotopic composition of biological tissue is expected to be a direct and constant function of diet because the stable isotope ratios do not decay or change in abundance through time. Over the past three decades, stable carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis has been extensively applied for archaeological topics. However, this is the first case in Korean mummy to extract palaeodietary information using stable isotope analysis. We extracted isotopic information from bone collagen and hair keratin, which reflects the lifetime average diet and short-term diet, respectively. The average values of ${\delta}^{13}C$ and ${\delta}^{15}N$ values are -19.0‰ and 11.4‰ (bone collagen), and -21.3‰ and 14.3‰ (hair keratin). Stable carbon isotope shows a mainly $C_3$-based diet from cradle to grave. On the other hand, there is significant difference in stable nitrogen isotope which implies a relatively enriched diet before death. We expect this study opens up a potential to understand the palaeodietary lifestyle in Joseon Dynasty.

Inclusion complexes of ketoconazole(KT) with ${\alpha}^_$, ${\beta}^_$cyclodextrin(CD) and $dimethy1-{\beta}-cyclodextrin$ (CD) and $dimethy1-{\beta}-cyclodextrin(DM{\beta}CD)$ as nasal absorption enhancer were prepared in 1: 2 molar ratios by freeze-drying and solvent evaporation methods. In order to compare with the intrinsic absorptivity of KT in the jejunum(J) and the nasal cavity(N), the in situ simultaneous perfusion method was employed. The in situ recirculation study revealed that KT-CD inclusion complexes with the greater stability constant and the faster dissolution rate proportionally increased the absorption of KT in the J and N of rats. The rank order of apparent KT permeability$(P_{app}\;:\;cm/sec\;{\time}\;1O^{-5}{\pm}S.E.)$, corrected by surface area of absorption, was $5.10{\pm}0.3(N,\; KT-DM{\beta}CD)$ )> $4.13{\pm}0.4(N,\;KT-{\beta}-CD)$ )> $3.52{\pm}0.2(N,\;KT-{\alpha}-CD)$ )> $2.76{\pm}0.3(J,\; KT-DM{\beta}CD)$ )> $2.61{\pm}0.5(J,\;KT-{\beta}-CD)$ )> $2.42{\pm}0.4(J,\;KT-{\alpha}-CD)$ at pH 4.0. The in crease in permeability of $KT-DM{\beta}CD$ inclusion complex was 2.6 folds in the J and 4.5 folds in the N when the perfusing solution was changed from the buffer(pH 4.0) to saline. The absorption rate of $KT-DM{\beta}CD$ inclusion complex after nasal administration was more rapid than those of ketoconazole alone and $KT-DM{\beta}CD$ inclusion complex after oral administration to rats. In comparision with an oral administration of ketoconazole suspension in corn oil, the relative bioavailability was calculated 137.3% for the oral and 195.0% for nasal $KT-DM{\beta}CD$ inclusion complex in rats. The present results suggest that $KT-DM{\beta}CD$ inclusion complex may serve as a potential nasal absorption enhancer for the nasal delivery of ketoconazole.

In this study, an experimental study on the sorption properties of uranium(VI) onto bentonite colloids generated from a domestic calcium bentonite (called as Gyeongju bentonite). Gyeongju bentonite has been considered as a potential candidate buffer material in the Korean disposal concept for high-level radioactive wastes. The size and concentration of the bentonite colloids used in the sorption experiment were measured by a filtration method. The result showed that the concentration of the synthesized bentonite colloid suspension was 5100ppm and the size of the most of bentonite colloids(over $98\%$) was in the range of 200-450nm in diameter. The amount of uranium lost by the sorption onto bottle walls, by precipitation, and by ultrafiltration or colloid formation was analyzed by carrying out some blank tests. The loss of uranium by the ultrafiltration was significant in the lower ionic strength(i.e., in the case of 0.001M $NaClO_4$) due to the cationic sorption effect onto the ultrafilter by a surface charge reversion. The distribution coefficient (or pseudo-colloid formation constant) for the sorption of uranium(VI) onto bentonite colloids was $10^4^{\sim}10^6$ mL/g depending upon pH and the distribution coefficient was highest in the neutral pH around 6.5.

Emission of methane and nitrous oxide affected by nitrogen fertilizer materials were measured simultaneously in rice paddy fields under flooding and intermittent irrigation in 2000. Studies focused on mitigating $CH_4$ emission from rice paddy fields are summarized and the possibilities and limits applied to world's rice cultivation are discussed. The mitigation options are water management, soil amendments, organic matter management, different tillage, rotation, and cultivar selection. Altering water management, in particular promoting midseason aeration by short-term drainage, is one of the most promising strategies, although these practices may be limited to the rice paddy fields where the irrigation system is well prepared. The test site was divided into two water managements: a continuously flooded plot which was maintained flooded by constant irrigation from May to September, and an intermittently drained plot in which short-term (20days) draining practices were performed one times during the flooding period. By total emission of GHGs converted by global warming potential (GWP), flooding plots were higher 170$\sim$208% than interimittent irrigation plots. For emission of GHGs in fertilizer materials, it was high in the order of Swine slurry>Urea+Rice straw>Urea>LCU. Basing on GHGs emission of urea fertilization under flooding as baseline GWP of urea fertilization and Latex-coated urea under intermittent irrigation showed lower GHGs emission by 41.4% and 55.8 respectively. In this case fertilizer use efficiency (kg unhulled rice/ of applied N) were 18.2$\sim$20.2 and 18.7$\sim$19.0 and 9.3 and 5.8$\sim$6.6 for Swine slurry and LCU and Urea+Rice straw and Urea in the continuously flooded and intermittently drained plot.
Parallel testing means ordering a number of tests at the same time so abnormalities in any of the tests can be found quickly and used in making the diagnosis. This is a good medical strategy to eliminate diseases and it is relatively inexpensive if all the tests are potential sources of information and performed on the same analyzer. In regression, the equation for the straight line is recast as y = bx + a. This change in terminology leads to confusion. Here a is the y-intercept or constant and b is the coefficient or slope of the line. A few more words of caution about regression - as in all of statistics there are certain assumptions: the x value is a true measure, both X and Y distributions are normal, and homoscedasticity, i.e., the variance of y is the same for each value of x. In this study the linearity classification made by different scientists were always in agreement. Typical examples of curves that were considered linear are presented in Fig. 1-5. Because these automated procedures values were usually within five percent of each other the curvature could be easily detected. The plot of the WBC, RBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelet concentrations from approximately 74.4 to $0{\times}10^3/{\mu}L$ and $80.4-0{\times}10^3/{\mu}L$, $5.6-0{\times}10^6/{\mu}L$ and $6.1-0{\times}1106/{\mu}L$, 18.3-0 g/dL and 19.0-0 g/dL, 54.1-0% and 56.8-0% and 642.0 to $0.03{\times}10^3{\mu}L$ and $754.0-0{\times}10^3/{\mu}L$ on the ADVIA 2120 C Versus and A and B typical of an acceptable linear study as shown in Fig. 1-5. A numerical study of a two-layer, stratified flow is investigated, using the implicit finite difference method in one dimension. The results of computational method have been tested and, in case of lock exchange flow, compared with the results of experimental data. The results of model experiments with various interfacial, bottom friction coefficients along with various time weighting factor of numerical scheme and dissipative interface are shown and discussed. Two-layer model experiment has been also carried out to investigate the generation and propagation characteristics of internal tidal wave over the steep bottom topography under stratified condition. The internal wave seems to well radiate through the downstream boundary under the experiments adopting radiation conditions both at two layers and only at upper layer, confirming the applicability of radiational boundary condition in stratified flows. It is also shown that the internal wave through the downstream boundary propagates more actively with increasing thickness of lower layer in the downstream. This implies that the potential tidal energy in the interface will depend upon the thickness of lower layer for the constant thickness of upper layer.
We study about small gas engine and fuel cell CHP (Combined Heat and Power) as the technologies for energy conservation and $CO_2$ emissions reduction. Korea government plans to use them in near future. This study quantitatively analyzed energy consumption and $CO_2$ emissions reduction potential of small CHP instead of existing electric power plant (coal steam, combined cycle and oil steam) using LEAP (Long-range Energy Alternative Planning system) as energy-economic model. Three future scenarios are discussed. In every scenario similar condition for each CHP is used. Alternative scenario I: about 6.34% reduction in $CO_2$ emissions is observed in 2019 due to increase in amount of gas engine CHP and fuel cell CHP while coal use in thermoelectric power plant is almost stagnant. In alternative scenario II: a small 0.8% increase in $CO_2$ emission is observed in 2019 keeping conditions similar to alternative scenario I but using natural gas in combined cycle power plant instead of coal. During alternative scenario II overall $CO_2$ emission reduction is observed in 2019 due to added heat production from CHP. Alternative scenario III: about 0.8% reduction in $CO_2$ emissions is observed in 2019 using similar CHP as AS I and AS II. Here coal and oil are used in thermoelectric power plant but the quantity of oil and coal is almost constant for next decade.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of tetracycline(TC}, flurbiprofen, and PDGF-BB loaded biodegradable membranes on the cell-attachment, the activity of loaded PDGF-BB, in vivo release kinetics, and guided bone regenerative potentials. To evaluate the cell attachment to membranes, the number of gingival fibroblasts attached to each membrane(10% TC, 10% flurbiprofen, $200ng/cm^2$ PDGF-BB loaded membranes, drug-unloaded membrane) was counted by coulter counter and the morphologic pattern of attached cells was examined under SEM. To determine whether the activity of loaded PDGF-BB is sustained, the cellular growth and survival rate of gingival fibroblasts was used for both standard PDGF-BB and loaded PDGF-BB. For evaluation of in vivo release kinetics, drug-loaded membranes were implanted on the dorsal skin of the rats. On 1, 3, 7, 10, 14, 21, and 28 days after implantation, the amount of remaining drugs were measured by HPLC assay for TC and flurbiprofen, and by ${\gamma}-scintillation$ counter for $PDGF-BB^{1125}$. For evaluation of guided regenerative potential, the amount of new bone in the calvarial defect(5mm in diameter) of the rat was measured by histomorphometry 1 and 2 weeks after implantation of membranes. The number of cells attached to the PDGF-BB loaded membrane was largest as compared with the other mernbranes.(p< 0.05) The activity of loaded PDGF-BB was not significantly different from the activity of standard PDGF-BB.(p<0.05) After initial burst release of drug during the first 24 hours, drugs were gradually released for 4 weeks. Especially the release rate of PDGF-BB was nearly constant during 4 weeks. PDGF-BB loaded membranes(200, $400ng/cm^2$) were effective in guided bone regeneration as compared with drug-unloaded membrane. These results implicate that drug-loaded biodegradable membranes might be a useful for guided bone regeneration.
The basic catalyst 1-benzyl-3-methyl-imidazolium hexafluoroantimonate (BMH) was synthesized and analyzed by FT-IR and 1H-NMR. A crystalized biphenyl-based epoxy was synthesized by using tetramethyl biphenol (TMBP) and epichlorohdrine. In order to consider the curing tendency of the synthesized BMH, the mass ratio was changed to 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 wt.% under heated conditions and the curing tendency was analyzed by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). As a result, the BMH catalyst showed a fast curing result in the stepwise heating pr℃ess of the biphenol-A epoxy and the cationic polymer. From these results, the BMH catalyst showed excellent thermal stability as a potential heat curing catalyst. In addition, we considered the application possibility of epoxy molding compound (EMC) which required a skeleton structure and a high heat resistance because the synthesized biphenyl epoxy had a characteristic of rapidly lowering viscosity at a constant temperature and a rigid skeleton structure of biphenol. As a result, it was confirmed that the TMBP-based epoxy developed in this study was composed of a crystalline structure, and a curing reaction was observed with a Novolac resin at a high temperature. In the presence of a catalyst, a curing reaction was observed around 150 ℃ and thus TMBP-based epoxy was successfully applied as a raw material of EMC.
