Consciousness in EFL Performances

  • In an attempt to identify highly probable causes of poor EFL performances, certain intriguing data of 11 common errors collected from 23 university students' listening and reading for correction of a short conversation of three people, with a questionnaire regarding their knowledge of the situational context, were analysed and interpreted within a theoretical framework of consciousness and the intonation unit (Chafe 1974, 1980, 1994), compatible with some important philosophical and psychological theories. The results: situational understanding does not always guarantee good EFL performances; the 11 errors were not attributable to hearing problems; consciousness appropriate for literacy and formal schooling appeared to be the major cause, which was inappropriate for a communicative use of English. Re-shaping of consciousness was suggested, with a warning against the ‘grammar consciousness raising’ approach.

  • The purpose of this study was to achieve regarding the environmental problem due to excessive economic development for human being's continous life and to try to enhance the quality of life. The major findings of this study are as followings: 1) Environmental consciousness and activity are closely correlated and also postively related to quality of life. Accordingly, environmental consciousness should be inspired and the environmental activities performed successfully to enhance the quality of life so that we can lead higher quality of life. 2) Income takes the highest position in the life-influncing factor with the following sequence of environmental consciousness, preservation acitivity, housekeeper's education level and age. So, earlier and steady education are important in raising the education level to have people equipped with environmental consciousness and activity. Moreover, we should be able to create income through education to enhance the quality of life. Accordingly, we should take a positive measure for enhancing environmental preservation and quality of life to meet two solutions, such as mankind's continuous development and value-oriented life.

  • The number of accidents is raising every year and severity is also increasing. A lot of studies are interested in the leading indicator such as safety culture or safety audit to reduce accidents. In particular, the studies on safety awareness are actively conducted. However, these studies showed that there was consciousness of scapegoatism which to pass responsibility of accident causes to others regardless of safety awareness. It means that there are probability about overestimating and making light of unsafe condition and act which have to manage and control. Eventually, the direct causes which lead to the fatal accident may be consistently arisen. Nevertheless, researches about consciousness of scapegoatism are shortage. Therefore, this study proposed the means to investigate the relationship between consciousness of scapegoatism and accidents through report from KOSHA and conducts the survey with suggested means. This paper will contribute to prevent accidents by identifying relationship between consciousness of scapegoatism and accidents.

Study of the FireFighting publicity Satisfaction and an Estimate of the Effects (소방홍보 만족도와 효과측정에 대한 연구)

  • This study examined the firefighting publicity satisfaction (FFPS) and the effects of firefighting publicity (EOFFP) on efficient firefighting publicity (FFP). In addition, the relationship between FFPS and EOFFP was analyzed. The result of the investigation of the FFPS was 58.5 points, which was slightly higher than the medium. The result of EOFFP revealed an increase in fire safety consciousness. In particular, the fire extinguishing ability was higher than the other item. The most powerful FFP method in raising fire safety consciousness was the Internet/Smart phone. Another effective and favorite method of FFP was the media. Fire safety consciousness did not influence the FFPS but the FFPS had an impact on the EOFFP.

A Study on the discourse about Chosǒn national character and Chosǒn aesthetic consciousness : focusing on the An Hwak and Yanagi Muneyoshi's discourse (근대 초 조선민족성과 조선미의식 담론의 논리화 방식 : 안확(安廓)과 야나기 무네요시(柳宗悅)를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is examining a circulation and conflict of concepts and logics of the $Chos{\check{o}}n$-ness by analysing the $Chos{\check{o}}n$ national character and $Chos{\check{o}}n$ aesthetic consciousness. As entering the modern period, we understood the nations as a unit of the artistic awareness. So, national art is defined as a national character expression from this period. The $Chos{\check{o}}n$ aesthetic consciousness by raising in this period, which is connected with the discourse of national character, carry out a discussional practice defining the Korean originality. However, there is a circulation and conflict of concepts and logics about the $Chos{\check{o}}n$ aesthetic consciousness in the process of a discussion. For the most representative examples are 'the white-clad folk' and 'the beauty of sorrow'. An Hwak and Yanagi Muneyoshi are representative debaters who try to establish the $Chos{\check{o}}n$-ness and their discussion supports these facts. As An Hwak regressing of the respect for high antiquity, he demolished the historical character from the $Chos{\check{o}}n$-ness and overlooked aesthetic differences by a periodical change. Yanagi Muneyoshi totally separates arts from politics and disposes of Korean arts in an abstract timeless-space. The function of such an early-modern period's discourse about $Chos{\check{o}}n$ aesthetic consciousness is that $Chos{\check{o}}n$ national character makes the dehistoricization and depoliticization.

Feminism in Nursing Science in Korea (한국 간호학문에서의 페미니즘)

  • Purpose: Although feminism has been actively discussed and applied to nursing in Western societies since the 1980s, it is little known among Korean scholars as well as Korean nurses. This article explores the use of feminist perspectives in nursing science in other developed countries and suggests how feminism could be applied to nursing science in Korea. Method: The literature related to nursing and feminism were reviewed in terms of nursing practice, education, and research. Result: This article describes what feminism is and how feminism and nursing have evolved historically over time in other countries, especially in Western societies. In addition, it discusses how it can be applied to nursing practice, education, and research in Korea. Conclusion: Accepting feminist perspective in Korean nursing could benefit in empowering nurses by valuing nursing, by raising self-esteem of nurses, and by raising the consciousness of socio-political realities. Eventually it could benefit in changing and developing nursing science in Korea.

The Perpectives of Family Resource Management Education in Social Education (사회교육에서의 가족자원관리교육의 전개방향)

  • This study is to suggest the perspectives of family resource management education in social education. From this purpose, necessity and position of FRM education in social education are discussed. And the perspectives about FRM education are presented from delphi research to experts. This perspectives contain the purpose, sphere, relation to existing programs, education for housewife, future tasks. Finally, several names of education program are illustrated in two dimension, which is divided into consciousness-raising and technique-learning in content and personal and family in object.

  • This study deals with problems of technical assistance through accidents analysis and questionnaires on small-sized construction sites which are difficult to understand real condition and administrate legally and indicated following efficient methods of technical assistance. (1) Ensuring access to the small-sized construction sites. (2) Delegation technical assistance service to civilian and supporting selected. (3) Raising of the person's safe consciousness concerned with the small-sized construction sites. (4) Safety consulting for the head office of small-sized construction sites.

Predictors of Stage of Change for Exercise Behaviors among Middle Aged Women based on the Tanstheoretical Model (범이론적 모형(Transtheoretical Model)에 근거한 중년여성의 운동행동 변화단계 예측요인)

  • Purpose: The study was performed to investigate the predictors associated transition with each stage of exercise behavior based to the Transtheoretical Model, and to provide basic data for exercise behavior programs for middle aged women. Methods: The subjects consisted of 434 women residing in B city by convenience sampling. The collected data were analyzed with multiple logistic regression using SPSS/WIN program. Results: The predictors of transition from precontemplation to contemplation were consciousness raising(OR=2.095, 95% CI: 1.305-3.363), Reinforcement management(OR= 1.903, 95% CI: 1.107-3.271), Stimulus control (OR=2.176, 95% CI:1.239-3.820), Menstrual status (OR=5.327, 95% CI: 1.110-25.562). The predictors of transition from contemplation to preparation were Helping relationship(OR= 1.671, 95% CI: 1.065-2.662), Pros(OR=2.500, 95% CI: 1.254-4.982), Perceived Health status (OR=.178, 95% CI: .041-.770). The predictor of transition from preparation to action was Stimulus control(OR=1.918, 95% CI: 1.103- 3.336). The predictors of transition from action to maintenance were Consciousness raising(OR= 1.939, 95% CI: 1.031-3.647), Dramatic relief (OR=2.249, 95% CI: 1.025-4.931). Conclusions: Adequate examination on the factors, which can predict the transitional stages of change exercise behaviors among middle aged women, which is presented in this study. The results of this study will become the pillar of exercise intervention program planning and application.

The Effect of Gender Equality Instruction in Home Economic class on the High School Students Consciousness of Gender Equality - focused on the Unit of Design of Home Life - (가정과에 적용한 양성평등 수업이 고등학생의 남녀평등의식에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was a quasi-experimental study conducted in ${\ulcorner}$Design of Home Life${\lrcorner}$ unit of high school Home Economics. The purposes of this study was to analyze the effects of gender equity instruction on gender equity consciousness of high school students, and to raise gender equity consciousness of students. The summarized results of this study were as follows; 1. After experiment. gender equality consciousness of experimental group was higher than that of comparison group in all four areas, that is, home life, school life, vocational life and socio-cultural life. So there was statistically significant differences in gender equity consciousness between two groups. 2. The gender equity consciousness of the experimental group was higher In post-test than pre-test, so there was statistically significant differences between pre-test and post-test. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant difference between pre-test and post-test in the comparison group. 3. After experiment, the change-rate of the gender equality consciousness In the experimental group was higher than that of in the comparison group, so there was statistically significant differences between two groups in the change-rate. As results of this study, in the ${\ulcorner}$Design of Home Life${\lrcorner}$ unit of high school Home Economics, it was proved that the gender equity class was effective on raising the gender equality consciousness of high school students in all four areas of home life, school life, vocational life and socio-cultural life.
