The issues of developing the value added services for public transport connectivity and transfer with information and communication technologies has been discussed in terms of incorporating system facilities with public transit modes to increase the ridership of public transit. This paper demonstrates a conceptual model for providing the location based public transit transfer information service on demand with respect to system requirements, subsystems, and logical architecture based on the national ITS architecture. The subsystems in this study which include transfer information center, parking concierge, user route guidance and information provision system are also investigated in detail in order for information service and/or contents provider to develop business models on public transit connectivity and transfer. This model is expected to be utilized in providing the variety of service models with the different types of public transit connectivity and transfer systems according to the system scale and the public transit modes.
Until now, in planning and constructing KTX and the Express Way, the connectivity and transfer between these facilities have not been considered. In this study the effect of mode choice behavior by connecting KTX and the Express Way is analyzed through estimating Multinomial Logit Model and Binary Logit Model. The SP and RP surveys to develop these models were carried out and the data were selected from the passengers using the KTX station, Express Bus Terminals and Rest Areas in the Express Way. To test the effect of connectivity and transfer in the field, the case study for Dongtan KTX station was carried out. According to the results, connecting the KTX station and the Express Way has the effect of increasing the demand by 30%. And this is caused by saving about 120 minutes of traveling time from Seoul to Pusan. This study shows that the connectivity and transfer can increase the efficiency of transportation system and the improvement in the mobility and accessibility will maximize the usages of these two facilities.
Recently the Korean Government is increasing investment and interest on railway in the transportation field as "low carbon and green growth" policy become main national development strategy. While railway competitiveness is weakening over the road from the inconvenient door-to-door and transfer system of railway, it is meaningful to review excellent railway transfer system of advanced countries and adapt their implications for Korea. Their transfer systems like Japan, Hongkong, France, U.K. and German can be categorized in this research as kinds of transfer & connectivity system and transfer facility & flow planning, and, as a result, their implications can be concluded. Also, analyzing transfer system of Korea's main stations and reviewing the difference between Korea and other countries, this paper suggests main principles and directions of urban planning, alignment of rail line, partnership of project stakeholder in the establishment of transfer system in the railway station in the future.
Due to the traffic congestion and public-oriented transportation policies of Seoul, public transportation is receiving attention and being used increasingly. However, current transport routes configuration is showing unbalanced accessibility throughout the city area creating differences in time, expenses and metal burden of users who travel the same distances. One of the reasons is that transport route planning has been partially empirical and non-quantitative tasks due to lack of relevant methods for assessing the complexity of the transport routes. This paper presents a method to compute the connectivity of public transport system based on the topological structure of the network of transport routes. The main methodological issue starts from the fact that the more transfers take place, the deeper the connectivity becomes making that area evaluated as less advantageous as for public transport accessibility. By computing the connectivity of each bus or subway station with all others in a city, we can quantify the differences in the serviceability of city areas based on the public transportation. This paper is based on the topological interpretation of the routes network and suggests an algorithm that can automate the computation process. The process is illustrated using a simple artificial network data built in a GIS.
After the deregulation of the aviation market in the United States in 1978, airlines took advantage of the possibilities of the liberalized market and reorganized their networks. Then, the hub-and-spoke networks became widely used in the aviation market. The framework of hub-and-spoke network made it feasible to amplify flight networks. Thus, a number of airlines were able to fly to more destinations than ever before through the networks. Amplification of networks can be implementing through the transfer of passengers, transshipment of cargo, or both most researches have been concentrated on the passenger aspect at airports worldwide. Air cargo, however, has become one of the most significant areas at hub airports to keep their leading position in terms of the provision of services and handling volumes. This paper investigates the connectivity of airfreight networks as the temporal concentrations in current network at Incheon International Airport. In order to evaluate airline flight schedule effects to stimulate hubbing at an airport, the indirect connectivity can be considered to be the number of direct frequencies, the minimum connecting times and the quality of the connection determine indirect connectivity. Therefore the connectivity of freight transshipment depends on both the quality of the connection at the hub airport and the quality of the indirect flight compared to the direct flight. In addressing these issues, this paper analyzes the connectivity of flight schedules using a temporal wave-system structure and estimates the degree of connectivity and quality of connectivity applying the NETSCAN model.
This study discusses how transportation to connect railway stations in Korea's small and medium-sized cities can be improved, based on analysis of a survey on the Joongang Line. The analysis considered current problems in connectivity between parts of the Korean transportation system and suggests how to encourage more passengers to shift from private cars to railways. It was found that railway users in small and medium-sized cities hope for better connection between different modes of public transportation, especially for urban buses. However, there is not enough connectivity currently available; therefore it is crucial to establish a system of such connections, mainly focusing on urban buses. Furthermore, in order to minimize transfer distances and connect various transfer modes, plans for improvements of facilities are needed and governmental support should be provided.
This paper proposes an optical wireless transfer agent method which realizes the continuous and swift data transfer of optical wireless terminals in optical wireless networks. The unguided wireless channel generally shows frequent link disconnections and propagation delays due to weak wireless links. Specially speaking, optical wireless channels have more vulnerable links and roaming propagation delays relative to the weakness of the previous RF channels due to their low signal connectivity and small geographic coverage. Conventional optical wireless network protocols did not consider any fault models about physical link faults. Consequently, they have shown data transfer inefficiency for both data link control and physical wireless link control. To overcome these optical wireless environmental problems, this paper suggests a new wireless access point (or base station) agent system, which provides wireless or mobile clients with previous link layer protocols compensated.
PURPOSES : The purpose of study is to come up with ideas to improve both the use of the public bicycle and the practicality of the public bicycle system as well. METHODS : The study carried out an analysis on factors which would influence user's satisfaction by using a structural equation and then, discussed what the current public bicycle system should do to make improvements of its own. In order to Satisfaction of the public bicycle system("Tashu") in Daejeon city survey was conducted users and was based on statistical analysis SPSS 20 program, structural equation modeling program AMOS 20 was used for analysis. In addition, the reliability and validity of each question was conducted verification, to verify the hypothesis using structural equation model. RESULTS : According to the results of the analysis with the structural equation used, the connectivity, the convenience, the economic efficiency and the reliability in order were observed to have an influence on the satisfaction of the users CONCLUSIONS : The connectivity turned out to be a factor that would have the greatest concern with the satisfaction of the users. This finding was, therefore, interpreted that people who would ride the public bicycles understand them as more of a transit system that would take them, the people themselves, to another transfer rather than as some immediate transit system.
The introduction of KTX(Korea Train Express) has brought an historic change to the overall transit system in Korea. Especially, the high-speed railway stations are expanding the scope as public transit centers. However, we cannot deny that the evaluation on the high-speed railway stations had not been performed successfully so far. The evaluation covers from the connectivity of the scope from door to the stations and the transfer service in the interior of stations. We developed the service evaluation indicators of transfer facilities in the high-speed railway stations. The indicators consist of level of service(LOS), the propriety of allocation, and the quality of information throughout the facilities in the centers. We examined the 7 stations in Korea and standardized the methodology of the evaluation process by applying the indicators. Also, the evaluation is performed easy for anyone to follow.

Incheon International Airport has handled 3,054,485 transfer passengers (11.9% transfer rate) and 950,441 transfer cargo(44.2% transfer rate)recorded in 2005. Comparing to 30-40% transfer passenger rate which are competition hub airports in northeast Asia, transfer passenger rate of Incheon International Airport is lower. Above all, We think that Minimum Connecting Time(MCT) which is relating factors with transfer rate need to be monitored to make up for the weak points in the current Incheon internationalairport system. Minimum Connecting Time is defined the legally minimum time necessary to change planes at a given airport. and Transfers represent 35% of the total passenger volume at Vienna International Airport in Europe, which underscores our function as a major international hub. Vienna is rated priority in reservation systems because of our excellent minimum connecting time, and that increases the sale of tickets through our airport. In 2004 the total number of transfer passengers rose 18% to 5,089,624. Short routes, a one roof concept and an outstanding logistics system make Vienna an ideal airport for transfers. This transfer-friendly one roof concept will also form the basis for the new VlE-Skylink Terminal. In case of Japan, Star Alliance has also implemented its so called "Move under one roof"concept at the new Centrair airport. All member carriers are located in the same part of the termina1, sharing check-in counters and ticketing facilities. Star Alliance member carriers can now offer customersa reduced average minimum connecting time of one hour, for transfers between international and domestic. The research purpose of the Study on the Enhancement for Minimum Connecting Time of Incheon International Airport is to increase transfer rate of passenger and cargo of Incheon International Airport at Northeast Asia through this paper.
