A study on the acoustic scalings of cavitation noise in an orifice configuration and a constant flow control valve (오리피스 구조내에서 발생한 공동소음의 음향학적 스케일링에 관한 연구)

  • The major source of noise in the process of transporting liquids is related to the cavitation phenomenon. The control valve noise is mostly dominated by bubble dynamics under cavitating conditions. In this investigation, an orifice configuration is set-up to correlate its flow-field and acoustic signatures with those from a control valve device. The performance and noise characteristics form the orifice configuration in anechoic surroundings were measured to reveal the noise sources depending on pressure differences across the orifice configuration. The sound powers from the orifice configuration are effectively normalized using proposed scaling parameters. Flow-excited dynamic systems for which there is no strong coupling between the flow and the system response can be described using a linear source-filter model. On this assumption, the normalized sound powers can be decomposed of noise source function and a response function. To find noise sources, pressure spectra measured over a range of pressure differences are transformed into the product of two non-dimensional frequency function : $P_{ss}(He,f_{ca},x/D) = F(f_{ca})\;G(He,x/D)$. This scheme of finding noise sources is shown to be applicable to the cavitation noise from the control valve effectively Two kinds of cavitating modes based on our experimental data are found and discussed.

Control of complex distillation configuration (복합 증류계의 제어)

  • The dynamics and control of two complex column configurations (sidestream column with stripper; prcfractionater/sidestream column configuration), which are multivariable interacting and nonlinear, have been studied. A new control scheme developed by Hanand Park(1993) to deal with the nonlinear and multivariable nature of distillation processes has been applied to these complex distillation configurations. The control scheme incorporates a nonlinear wave model into a generic model control framework. An observer based on the nonlinear wave model is used to determine the profile positions of distillation column sections. The control scheme enables tight control of the profile position of each column section that leads to fast stabilization of product compositions.

  • SMISMO valve configuration is now starting to draw attention of the researchers of the construction equipment industry to increase the fuel efficiency of their equipment like excavators and wheel-loaders. An open-loop control strategy for grading operation of hydraulic excavator systems using SMISMO valve configuration is investigated in this paper. Tabor's algorithm for 1 d.o.f. SMISMO system under the assumption of quasi-static operation is revealed as not adequate for multi d.o.f. system with large moment of inertia even though the motion of the system is slow. New parameters are proposed in this paper. It modifies Tabor's open-loop control strategy for the grading operation of hydraulic excavators using SMISMO valve configuration. A simulation-based parameter tuning method is also proposed. It uses GA (Genetic Algorithm) to find the best parameter values. Simulation study for a practical hydraulic excavator shows the validity of the proposed open-loop control strategy.

  • This paper introduces an integration of Product Data Management (PDM) and Software Configuration Management (SCM). PDM and SCM have supported development of mechanical products and software products respectively. The importance of software components in the current products increases rapidly since the software enables the products to satisfy various customer requirements efficiently. Therefore the current product development needs enhanced product data management that can control both the hardware and software data seamlessly. This paper proposes an extended product data model for integrating SCM into PDM. The extension enables PDM document management to support the version control for software development. It also enables engineers to control both the software and hardware parts as integrated data objects during product configuration and engineering change management. The proposed model is implemented by using a commercial Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system and a development of a network based robot system is tested by the implemented product development environment.

  • A configuration management system was implemented by applying PLM to the defense field. The PLM system has recently been incorporated in a wide range of industries, and it has allowed for improvements in work productivity and expansion of related services by comprehensively managing and securing connection regarding configuration information in the defense field. Implementations include acquisition of configuration related information and reinforcement of BOM-oriented configuration management function, securing compatibility among 3D drawings of different agencies, improvement of drawing and document management functions, comprehensive systematic configuration management focused on product structure, strengthened configuration control functions, a management system according to the work flow and life cycle functions, an integrated configuration management system of 3D model CAD resources and an enhanced management system. This paper covers a case study reviewing the implementation of a PLM-based configuration management information system and its results, so that the information can be made available to other agencies and companies seeking to apply PLM in their organizations.

  • In general, weapon system design/configuration data consist of system structure information which is linked to Part information, documents and drawings. For configuration management, version and revision control are necessary and access control of users to information should be managed for information security. Configuration data of weapon systems have various kinds of different meta data which are contained in the structure as well as attributes of parts and documents information. If neutral types of meta data models be used for building configuration management system, they can be applied to many different kinds of weapon systems with a little customization. In this paper, five meta data models are supposed and implementation results of them by using CBD(component based design) methodology are presented.

  • This paper concerns the location of the transit point between adjacent loops and guide direction of loops in the tandem configuration manufacturing system. The tandem configuration has been used to solve control problems like the vehicle dispatching and traffic control. The transit point between loops needs to deliver the parts from one loop to another. The location of transit point between adjacent loops and direction of loops must be determined to minimize the total travel time of parts in the manufacturing system. The model formulation is developed, a numerical example is shown.

  • We consider a robust configuration problem of inertial sensors for inertial navigation system(INS). Fault detection and isolation(FDI) is necessary to improve reliability of the system. For FDI, there used to be more than three mutually orthogonal sensors and thus we have to consider configuration methods of sensors. Various studies in this area have been done, but the former results did not consider effect of uncertainty(misalignment, scale factor error) to determine the configuration of the sensors.   • This paper proposes a study on the configuration of balancing of plant(BOP) and implementation of battery management system(BMS) functions for vanadium redox flow battery(VRFB) and propose a method consists of sensor and required design specifications BOP system configuration. And it proposes an method of the functions implementation and control algorithm of the BMS for flow battery. Functions of BMS include temperature control, the charge and discharge control, flow control, level control, state of charge(SOC) estimation and a battery protection through the sensor signal of BOP. Functions of BMS is implemented by the sensor signal, so it is recognized as a very important factor measurement accuracy of the data. Therefore, measuring a mechanical signal(flow rate, temperature, level) through the BOP test model, and the measuring an electrical signal(cell voltage, stack voltage and stack current) through the VRFB charge-discharge system and analyzes the precision of data in this paper. Also it shows a good charge-discharge test results by the SOC estimation algorithm of VRFB. Proposed BOP configuration and BMS functions implementation can be used as a reference indicator for VRFB system design.

  • Korea Aerospace Research Institute takes part in the vibration control software development for an Active Vibration Control System (hereafter, AVCS) for helicopters with Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. in the Light Civil Helicopter (LCH) Project. The vibration control software is being developed per RTCA/DO-178C certification regulation and use of configuration management tools for software outputs is required. Redmine, an open source software is for issue or bug tracking and management software. Git, another open source software is a distributed version control software and is developed for Linux OS development. This paper introduces the functionalities of Redmine and Git, the reason why they are selected for the configuration management tool for the software outputs, and how they are being used for AVCS software development.
