  • With uniform heat generation from the inner surface of the cylindrical heater placed in a cross flow boundary condition, heat flow that is conducted along the wall of the heater creates a non-isothermal surface temperature and non-uniform heat flux distribution. In the present investigation, the effects of circumferential wall heat conduction on convection heat transfer is investigated for the case of forced convection around horizontal circular tube in cross flow of air. The wall conduction number which can be deduced from the governing energy equation should be used to express the effect of circumferential wall heat conduction. It is demonstrated that the circumferential wall heat conduction influences local Nusselt numbers of one-dimensional and two-dimensional solutions.

  • In this paper, the current lead for superconducting device is studied by numerical method. The current lead is cooled by surrounded $N_{2}$ gas by natural convection. The heat conduction equation for current lead and boundary layer equation for $N_{2}$ gas must be solved simultaneously. The boundary layer equation for $N_{2}$ gas is highly nonlinear for varied temperature of current lead. So the linearization method is adopted for simplicity. Numerical results using natural convection cooling are compared with the conventional cooling methods such as conduction cooling and vapor cooling methods. The main difference of natural convection cooing is the non-zero temperature gradient at the top of current lead for the minimum heat dissipation into superconducting devices. For the optimized conduction-cooling and vapor-cooling current leads, the temperature gradient at the top of current lead is zero. Also, the heat flow at the cold end is much smaller than conduction cooling case.

  • The convection heat transfer on horizontal circular tube is studied as a conjugated heat transfer problem. With uniform heat generation in a cylindrical heater placed in a cross flow boundary condition, heat flow that is conducted along the wall of the heater creates a non-isothermal surface temperature and non-uniform heat flux distribution. In the present investigation, the effects of circumferential wall heat conduction on convection heat transfer are investigated for the case of forced convection around horizontal circular tube in cross flow of air and water. Non-dimensional conjugation parameter $ K^*$ which can be deduced from the governing energy differential equation should be used to express the effect of circumferential wall heat conduction. Two-dimensional temperature distribution$ T({\gamma,\theta})$ is presented. The influence of circumferential wall heat conduction is demonstrated on graph of local Nusselt number.

  • Laminar natural convection heat transfer from a horizontal heat exchanger tube with one infinitely long vertical plate fin has been studied by a finite-difference numerical procedure. In predicting convective heat transfer from a circular tube, the thermal boundary condition at solid fluid interface is usually assumed to be isothermal. However, in reality, the thermal boundary condition is not isothermal, and the tube has the thickness and the conductivity. So the temperature at the interface is not known a priori to the calculation. This problem has the conjugate phenomena which occur between the tube conduction and external natural convection, and between the fin conduction and external natural convection. Numerical results are obtained to determine the effects of the conductivity of solid wall and the thickness of tube wall on heat transfer. It is found that the conduction causes significant influence on the natural convection heat transfer at low K and high ${\delta}$.

  • The interaction of forced convection-conduction with thermal radiation in laminar boundary layer over a plate fin is studied numerically. The analysis is based on complete solution whereby the heat conduction equation for the fin is solved simultaneously with the conservation equations for mass, momentum and energy in the fluid boundary layer adjacent to the fin. The fluid is a gray medium and diffusion(Rosseland) approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The resulting boundary value problem are convection-conduction parameter N$_{c}$ and radiation-conduction parameter m, Prandtl number Pr. Numerical results are presented for gases with the Prandtl numbers of 0.7 & 5 with values of N$_{c}$ and M ranging from 0 to 10 respectively. The object of this study is to provide the first results on forced convection-radiation interaction in boundary layer flow over a semi-infinite flay plate which can be used for comparisons with future studies that will consider a more accurate expression for the radiative heat flux. The agreement of the results from the complete solution presented by E. M. Sparrow and those from this paper for the special case of M=0 is good. The overall rate of heat transfer from the fin considering radiative effect is higher than that from the fin neglecting radiative effect. The local heat transfer coefficient with radiative effect is higher than that without radiative effect. In the direction from tip to base, those coefficients decrease at first, attain minimum, and then increase. The larger values of N$_{c}$ M, Pr give rise to larger fin temperature variations and the fin temperature without radiative effect is always higher than that with radiative effect.

  • This paper considers the influence of circumferential wall heat conduction for the case of forced convection around a circular cylinder in cross flow of air. Keeping uniform heat generation from the inner surface of the cylinder in radial direction, heat is transferred by wall conduction in the circumferential direction due to the asymmetric nature of the temperature distribution of the cylinder and by convection around the perimeter of the cylinder. The wall conduction depends on conductivity of the cylinder and size of the cylinder radius and thickness and affects the local convective heat transfer rate significantly for geometrically similar surfaces and flow conditions. A nondimensional conjugation parameter K. (=k$_t$R/k$_w$b) has been used to characterize the effect of the circumferntial wall heat conduction. The small values of conjugation parameter K are found to be associated with large effect of wall conduction on the local convective heat transfer rate.

  • A numerical investigation on the conduction-natural convection-surface radiation conjugate heat transfer in the enclosure having substrate and chips has been performed. A 2-dimensional simulation model is developed by considering heat transfer by conduction, convection and radiation. The solutions to the equation of radiative transfer are obtained by the discrete ordinates method using S-4 quadrature. The effects of Rayleigh number and the substrate-fluid thermal conductivity ratio on the cooling of chip are analyzed. The result shows that radiation is the dominant heat transfer mode in the enclosure.

  • A conjugate conduction-convection analysis has been made for a plate fin which exchanges heat with its fluid environment by forced convection. The analysis is based on a one- dimensional model for the plate fin whereby the transient heat conduction equation for the fin is solved simultaneously with the conservation equations for mass, momentum, and energy in the fluid boundary layer adjacent to the fin. The forced convection heat transfer coefficient is not specified in advance but is one the results of the numerical solutions. Numerical results of the overall heat transfer rate, the local heat transfer coefficient, the local heat flux, the fin efficiency and the fin surface temperature distribution for Pr=0.7 are presented for a wide range of operating conditions.

  • A numerical analysis was performed on magnetic field effects of silicon melt motion in Czochralski crystal puller. The turbulent modeling was used to simulate the transport phenomena in 18' single crystal growing process. For small crucible angular velocity, the natural convection is dominant. As the crucible angular velocity is increased, the forced convection is increased and the distribution of temperature profiles is broadened. The cusp magnetic field reduces effectively the natural and forced convection near the crucible and the temperature profiles of the silicon fluids is similar in the case of conduction.

  • The unsteady conjugate forced convection-conduction heat transfer from a plate fin is numerically studied. The external forced flow is steady but the temperature of the fin base is an exponential change with time. Therefore, the unsteady energy equations of the fluid and the fin are solved simultaneously under the conditions of equality in heat flux and temperature at the fluid-fin interface at every instant of time. Numerical results are given for various quantities of interest including the local heat transfer coefficient, the local heat flux, the total heat transfer rate and the temperature distribution of fin under the effects of the convection-conduction parameter and the ratio of thermal diffusivities. The results of the present numerical solution have been compared with those of the conventional fin theory.
