In this study, the dynamic characteristic of a contact wire and pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated from an electrical response point of view. To analysis power line disturbance by induced contact loss phenomenon for high speed operation, a hardware Simulator which considered contact loss between contact wire and the pantograph as well as contact wire deviation is developed. It is confirmed that a contact wire and pantograph model are necessary for studying the dynamic behavior of the pantograph system. One of the most important needs accompanied by increasing the speed of high-speed train is reduced that an arc phenomenon by loss of contact brings out EMI. In case of a high-speed train using electrical power, as comparison with diesel rolling stock, PLD(Power Line Disturbance) such as harmonic, transient voltage and current, EMI(Electromagnetic Interference), dummy signal injection etc usually occurs. Throughout experiment, it is verified that an arc phenomenon is brought out for simulator operation and consequently conducted noise is flowed in electric circuit by power line disturbance.
Based on the application of an integrated dynamic brake (IDB) system that uses a PWM inverter fed-AC motor drive to operate the piston, a new active zero state PWM (AZSPWM) is proposed to improve the stability and reliability of the IDB system by suppressing the conducted electro-magnetic interference (EMI) noise under a wide range of load torque. The new AZSPWM reduces common-mode voltage (CMV) by one-third when compared to that of the conventional space vector PWM (CSVPWM). Although this method slightly increases the output current ripple by reducing the CMV, like the CSVPWM, it can be used within the full range of the load torque. Further, unlike other reduced common-mode voltage (RCMV) PWMs, it does not increase the switching power loss. A theoretical analysis is presented and experiments are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method.

According to revolutionary developments in automobile technologies, eco-friendly advanced vehicles (hybrid vehicle, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, electric vehicle, etc.) are rapidly increasing. The electromagnetic compatibility is getting more important for development of a vehicle because those advanced vehicles are driven by electric energy and equipped with more electric systems. In general, electromagnetic compatibility tests consist of an electromagnetic interference(EMI) test and an electromagnetic susceptibility(EMS) test. EMI test of the electric vehicles are needed not only in driving mode but also in charging mode because they must be recharged by much electric energy for driving. Depending on vehicle manufacturers, the charging device type and the location of charging device inlet in electric vehicles are various. In this paper, in order to investigate EMI of electric vehicles in charging mode in consideration of the direction of measuring antenna and the location of charging device inlet, a series of electromagnetic emission tests are conducted using three electric vehicles (neighborhood electric vehicle, electric vehicle and electric vehicle-bus). The test results show that electromagnetic emission measurements in charging mode are dependent on the direction of measuring antenna and the location of charging device inlet.
In this study, a zero-crossing spike current issue in a totem-pole bridgeless power factor correction (PFC) converter is comprehensively investigated for the first time. Spike current occurs when input voltage crosses zero, becomes a noise source, and causes severe common mode emission issues. A generation mechanism for electromagnetic interference (EMI) is presented to investigate the EMI problem caused by zero-crossing issue, and a noise spectrum due to this issue is predicted by a theoretical analysis based on the Fourier coefficient of an approximate spike current waveform. Furthermore, a noise reduction method is proposed and then improved to reduce the spike current. Experimental measurements are implemented on a GaN-based totem-pole bridgeless PFC converter, and the spike current can be effectively suppressed through the proposed method. Furthermore, the noise spectrums measured without and with the reduced zero-crossing spike current are compared. Experimental results validate the analysis of the noise spectrum caused by the zero-crossing spike current issue.
In this study, an investigation study on EMC(Electromagnetic Compatibility) is presented for power converter circuit. A DC-DC power converter circuit using LT3652 chip is designed and fabricated. The simulation results using ANSYS SIwave for far field radiation and unwanted emissions are presented. To minimize the unwanted emissions, we design a optimized circuit by using capacitors and ground posts. The conducted and radiation emissions are measured in the EMC test chamber based on standardized testing procedures of CISPR 22. The measured EMI emission values for a power converter circuit are presented and compared with the original circuit. The results show that the unwanted emissions from the circuit are tremendously diminished due to the applied EMI reduction techniques. The results proposed here can be usefully applied on designing power converter modules.

This paper presents a high-frequency boost type ZVS-PWM chopper-fed DC-DC power converter with a single active auxiliary edge-resonant snubber at the load stage which can be designed for power conditioners such as solar photovoltaic generation, fuel cell generation, battery and super capacitor energy storages. Its principle operation in steady-state is described in addition to a prototype setup. The experimental results of boost type ZVS-PWM chopper proposed here, are evaluated and verified with a practical design model in terms of its switching voltage and current waveforms, the switching v-i trajectory and the temperature performance of IGBT module, the actual power conversion efficiency, and the EMI of radiated and conducted emissions, and then discussed and compared with the hard switching scheme from an experimental point of view. Finally, this paper proposes a practical method to suppress parasitic oscillation due to the active auxiliary resonant switch at ZCS turn-off mode transition with the aid of an additional lossless clamping diode loop, and can be reduced the EMI conducted emission.

In UHD high-speed video transmission system, when a signal within certain frequency region coincides electrically and structurally, the system becomes unstable because the energy is concentrated, and signal flux is interfered and distorted. For the instability, power integrity analysis should be conducted. To remove the signal distortion for MLB, using a high-frequency design technique for EMI phenomenon, EMI which radiates electromagnetic energy fluxed into power layer was analyzed considering system stabilization. In this paper, we proposed an adaptive MLB design method which minimizes high-frequency noise in MLB structure, enhances signal integrity and power integrity, and suppresses EMI. The characteristic impedance for multi-layer circuit board proposed in this study were High-Speed Video Differential Signaling(HSVDS) line width w = 0.203, line gap d = 0.203, beta layer height h = 0.145, line thickness t = 0.0175, dielectric constant εr = 4.3, and characteristic impedance Zdiff = 100.186Ω. When high-speed video differential signal interface board was tested with optimized parameters, the magnitude of Eye diagram output was 672mV, jittering was 6.593ps, transmission frequency was 1.322GHz, signal to noise was 29.62dB showing transmission quality improvement of 10dB compared to previous system.
The Electromagnetic Interference(EMI) in railway applications is largely due to doing the power conversion for traction and Auxiliary system on the Highspeed Electric Multiple Unit-400X(HEMU-400X). In order to research on EMI in railway applications, it were included how much the HEMU-400X generates it and it has an effect on the equipments of electric system which resulted from Power Line Disturbance (PLD) phenomenon by the loss of contact during its running. In this study, the dynamic characteristic of a contact wire and pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated. The analysis of the loss of contact based on Power Simulator program software is performed to develop power line disturbance model suitable for high speed operation. It is confirmed that a contact wire and pantograph model are necessary for studying the dynamic behavior of the pantograph system.
