A study has been conducted to investigate the effect of the heat transfer surface position in the range of dropwise condensation, filmwise condensation, and glacial condensation. For dropwise condensation promoter, the heat transfer surface was evaporated by gold. As a result, heat transfer rate is almost same where the position of heat transfer surface is between 45 and 135 degree. It is found that heat transfer rate was reduced as subcooled degree was increased. And it is also found that if the subcooled degree becomes lower, the position of heat transfer surface is more effective. Adversely, if the subcooled degree becomes higher, the effectiveness of surface position is getting relatively lower. Regardless of the position, the transition temperatures from dropwise condensation to filmwise condensation is in the vicinity of 80K.
The effect of ambient gas (steam) condensation on swirl spray characteristics were studied experimentally for low subcooling condition of the liquid. The configuration of the liquid(water) sheet and the breakup modes were examined. Also variation of the discharge coefficient, breakup length, local and the cross-sectional area-averaged SMD of droplets with the liquid flow(injection) rate were obtained. The perforation breakup mode appears dominant with condensation while the aerodynamic wave breakup mode is dominant without condensation(in the air environment). The discharge coefficient, breakup length and the mean drop sizes decrease in a same manner with increasing of the liquid flow rate for both cases(with and without condensation). The condensation effects are insignificant with the discharge coefficient. However, the local and cross-sectional area-averaged SMD are larger and the breakup length becomes shorter in the steam environment. The spray angle predicted from the volumetric flux distribution along the radial direction of the sprays in the steam environment becomes larger with condensation.
R407C is considered as alternative refrigerant of R22 for air conditioners. Experimental investigation is made to study the condensation heat transfer characteristics of slit fin-tube heat exchanger using alternative refrigerant, R407C. Experiments are carried out at condensation pressure of 2110 kPa and 1943 kPa with the degree of superheat of 1$0^{\circ}C$ and mass flux varying from 150 to 250 kg/$m^2$s for refrigerant side. The inlet air condition is dry bulb temperature of 35$^{\circ}C$, relative humidity of 50% and air velocity varying from 0.8 to 1.6 m/s. Experiments show that pressure drop gets smaller at a higher condensation pressure especially when condensation pressure is raised from 1943 to 2110 kPa. Heat transfer rate gets smaller at a lower condensation pressure in the range of experimental condition.
Condensation heat transfer can be classified in dropwise condensation and filmwise condensation, and for the industrial purpose, the former is more useful than the latter because of the higher heat transfer rate. But it is difficult to maintain the dropwise condensation continuously since most of the metal surfaces become wetted after exposure to a condensing vapor over an extended period of time. To maintain dropwise condensation continuously , various surface coatings and promoters have been used recently, but these methods must be reconsidered about the durability of condensing surface. Therefore, in this study, evaporating method of various pure metals on the condensing surface has been performed to maintain dropwise condensation. The results have showed that the heat transfer rate of silver evaporating surface is higher than any other metal evaporating in dropwise area. Transition temperature and filmwise condensation curves are uniform regardless of kinds of evaporating metals.
This study concerns the performance of condensation heat transfer in two-phase loop thermosyphons. In the present work, R134a has been used as the working fluid. Liquid fill charge ratio defined by the ratio of working fluid volume to total internal volume of thermosyphon, heat flux and wind speed of condensation have been used as the experimental parameters. The results show that the filling rate of working fluid and heat flux are very important factors for the operation of two-phase loop thermosyphons. The optimum liquid fill charge ratio for the best condensation heat transfer rate was 80%.
Purpose: Condensation in the apartment housing is one of the most significant defects and complaints for condensation are rapidly increasing according to the growing interest in residential environment. Korea government established a regulation for reducing condensation in the apartment housing and TDR is adapted as a standard. However prevention of condensation depend on improving the performance of building envelop has limitation because of the increase of the cost. Centralized Hybrid ventilation system is suggested to prevent condensation. Method: Field measurement was conducted to verify the ventilation rate of the ventilation system. Based on the measurement, air network and CFD simulation was conducted to analyze ventilation rate for each room. Surface temperature was calculated by regulated TDR according to the regions and surfaces. The performance of condensation prevention was evaluated by the ventilation rate and surface temperature. Result: In the results, it was found that condensation was prevented in more than 90% of households by the centralized hybrid ventilation system which provided 0.19 ~ 0.81ACH for each room.
The growth by steam condensation of an hygroscopic aerosol is investigated using the condensation rate model which has been derived from the mass and heat transfer equations. The present model accounts for both the solute and Kelvin effects. When the hygroscopicity is considered, condensation can occur on hygroscopic seed particles even under subsaturated steam conditions. This study focuses on the effect of hygroscopicity on the evolution of the particle size distribution and decay of the total aerosol concentration. It is found that hygroscopicity causes the particle size distribution to rapidly move upward even in a very short time, resulting in substantially higher decay of the total aerosol concentration than the case without considering hygroscopicity.
A rapid expansion of moist air of condensible gas through a supersonic nozzle gives rise to condensation of nonequilibrium and equilibrium processes. Because most of the effects of condensation on the flow are caused by process of nonequilibrium condensation, it is very important to know the onset. condition of nonequilibrium condensation. In the present study, the relation between the initial relative stagnation humidity and the onset Mach number, for the case of the similarity law suggested by Zierep and Lin. Furthermore, the present theoretical result number is compared with the experimental, numerical and other results.
Recently, the condensation of walls often occurring in domestic high-rise apartment buildings is an important problem. The main purpose of this study is to develop the prediction method for the surface condensation on curtain wall in high-rise apartment buildings. Therefore, in this study, we first analyzed exterior climate factors through the analysis of the Seoul climate data and predicted the change of indoor temperature by using Apache program to find the cause of the condensation state and to prevent condensation. Also, according to this result, exterior climate factors and interior factors, which caused the condensation, was examined. The thermal performance of the curtain wall and the range of potential condensation were analyzed to focus on high-rise apartment buildings through computer simulation programs. The results are as $follows;^1$) The frame edge of curtain wall has a higher U-value than in the center by $30%^2$) Because of stack effect, the rooms on the higher floor have a lower external ventilation rate resulting to a higher relative humidity3) Installing a ventilation system($20m^3$/h. person) makes it possible to have a higher external ventilation rate, resulting to a lower relative humidity.
